Some of the tools I use in my workshop: www.thesmallworkshop.com/my-to...
In this video I'm making some leather working tools: a couple of edge burnishers. One is the classic design, the other was inspired by the Pro Edge Burnisher and it is meant to be powered by a drill press.

Hi...I am a 70 year old woman who has wanted to learn woodwork since I was a child watching my daddy in his shop. He would let me use the chisel (with him standing right by me and after some stern words about what and not what to do). I loved it so much. But, as it sometimes happens, life got in the way and I never pursued the craft. Oh how I have regretted not learning all there is to know. When he passed away rather tragically in 1997, my brother got his lathe and promptly sold it. Not his fault...he didn’t know I wanted it. I love watching your videos and keep saying to myself, “Self, you could make that!” Maybe it’s not too late🙂

You do not wear gloves while working with a lathe. They can become caught and you are not strong enough to prevent your hand from wrapping around the spindle. Gloves or long sleeves or long hair are bad juju...

Usually I edit the videos at 2x speed, or they will be too long, but this one was short enough to leave at normal speed, and I wanted to test that, since some people complained about the speed.
@Yonatan24

Hmmm... People will complain about everything. I mean, even when cutting clips properly, watching at normal speed is pretty boring. I use to speed up my videos way too much but I've started slowing them down more.

Until I read the comments below, I thought the metal part was the working end. I made something very similar (although not a nice-looking) by inserting an old drill bit in a wooden handle, leaving the straight shank. The purpose was for burnishing hand scrapers after raising a burr.

james leal He used mineral oil. Just a protectant, not really a finish. Burnishers work through friction, so you don't want to completely seal off the grain.
