Making Straight Razor and shaving with it

This time I make cyberpunk style razor. I used old circuit boards as handle. It was a challenge to make the edge super thin and sharpen it so it can comfortably shave face hair. The main goal here was to look cool and not so much - high performance and practicality. It came out a bit big and heavy. When I get a proper contact wheel for my grinder I will make another one with more practical proportions.

I've watched several of your videos so far, and this is one of the best channels on this platform. Your design and the material choices aren't basic or unoriginal. The cyberpunk machete and a few others are top teir quality craftsmanship.

It sure sounded right. Crispy. Under the nose is the real test. The most terrifying test. Now you know why people with the money payed to get shaved. It looked good from here. Nice razor.👍

Thank you for this comment. Sounds like you are familiar with this stuff. When I just started making knives some years ago I made a few "razors" but they were flat grind and pretty thick behind the edge. I was able to shave my sides with those but when I tried the mustache it just pulled the hairs and it was really painful. With this one I didn't feel any pulling or pain. It still can be made a bit thinner and better polished at the edge but I'll leave this for future project :)

Beautiful work and I was really glad to see you wearing a respirator. Besides the fiberglass in circuit boards, you've also got fun stuff like lead and cadmium.

K, that was really cool. The razor looks amazing. But I have got to say that the hollow grind and the shaving afterwards took a steadier hand than I've ever had! I'm terrified watching people use a straight razor. I've tried a bit and it isn't for me - WAY too worried about slicing myself! Great video! 👍

Thank you. I make weird faces when I shave because I had to look in a mirror that reflects the display of my camera so I can keep my face in frame :D It was a bit awkward filming setup. Otherwise I shaved many times with a razor and it is not a big deal for me. The important thing is to keep the blade at the right angle and move it only perpendicular to the direction of the edge , if you move it sideways even a bit - it leaves a mark.

I wonder if there are specific measurements involved with making a straight razor that have to do with the contures of the face? Seems like maybe the smaller the blade, the better it would work.
@RustLegion
@RustLegion 9 ай бұрын
I am not sure if there are different styles for different face shapes , but for sure smaller and lighter will be better :)

I bought a true vintage straight razor and its a horrible thing to shave with. Very painful. A safety razor is so much more comfortable imho.
@RustLegion
@RustLegion 9 ай бұрын
it depends how sharp it is and you need to soak your beard with hot water a bit first. Makes a big difference. But I agree it is a lot of effort compared to just using safety razor.
