***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out new videos every week! We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.
We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.

I need to figure out how to grow a small pot of lettuce on my deck without the wild rabbits cleaning it out! Between the rabbits and the lack of good sunlight about all I’ve been able to grow is a small pot of parsley up on the bistro table. Maybe some lettuce right beside it would be happy.

When I ordered my chicks they put in a free chick and it was a Polish chick and of course it was a rooster. I could tell which chick was free as soon as I opened the box and saw the little yellow top hat on the chick. I was not planning on having a rooster but now I am glad. I warms my heart every morning when I hear him crow. My husband calls him a rock star because of his top hat feathers. So happy for you, you are going to love watching them.

We got 9.5 inches of snow on Tuesday. So after a couple of hours shoveling snow I got some flower seeds started. I started 2 types of lettuce and basil about 10 days ago and they are already up! Also started a few types of tomatoes, cucumbers and new to me cucamelons. My brain is already in spring mode.🙂

We were in the little area of about six counties that got 5 to 6 inches of snow even being above freezing it piled up but melted pretty fast on Tuesday. Amazing how just a few miles makes such a difference, I love to watch it snow and tell myself it is putting moisture into the ground. I am about 16 miles north West of Silver Dollar City, I have lived most of my life in this area haven't found any place I would rather be.

Happy Valentine's Day, Kevin and Sarah! Your snowstorm is headed our way and should arrive sometime this afternoon. I'm excited to see your new chicks! I wish we could have some silkies and Polish chickens. If we had purchased a home 1/2 mile further down the road when we retired, we'd be outside the city limits and I could have more chickens. But we do the best with the acre that we have. FYI, we built a hoop coop for our quail modeled after yours, and ours have done just fine in the NE WI winter. We did add a couple small "shrubberies" for them, which they love. However, that's where they lay the eggs now, so I have to disturb them each time I gather the eggs. I suppose you must have to do the same.

I had the polish chickens. Watch out for the cream & rust ones. I had a couple attack roosters out of that color🤷🏼‍♀️ The other colors were fine, roosters and hens (mostly black with white tops), but I had to carry a stick when I did chores, the cream and rust roosters were out for blood. I never understood why. They were free range.
