I'm curious to know after making your own McRib sandwich-----how much did it cost to make it at home ??? With all the ingredients involved from the bread dough to the Rib rub to the BBQ sauce------it looks very time consuming and expensive for a rib sandwich

@larrybruce4856 I bought the ribs on sale at Costco in a 2pak, which was $12 per slab. I already had the ingredients for the dough and sauce. I used store bought pickles. The biggest thing was the time and love of cooking. When I sliced everything up, it made 3 Mcribs portion size. Total cost per sandwich $5.13. 200% better tasting than McDonald's. I'll never buy another Mcrib ever again! Hope this info helps you out.

I always find it strange, that McDonald's limits the time the McRib is on their menu in the US. Over here in Germany it's ALWAYS on the menu, at least at all larger McD. restaurants. I always liked the McRib, but I don't consider it to be that special for a fast food chain burger either.

@@homoop2431 Kommt echt auf den McDonalds an wo du essen gehst. Hatte welche mit zäher Sauce, manche waren wirklich sehr komisch vom Geschmack und 30% hat man dann doch noch den alten McRib den man seit 15-25 Jahren kennt. Aber ja, beim Essen sollte es kein Zufallsprinzip sein. Keine Ahnung was die mit der Sauce gemacht haben.

It's because Germany consumes a lot more pork than the US compared to beef. If the product would be listed permanently, the demand would drop down really quick.

I worked at McDonalds a long time ago. Based in Germany, the McRib is a permanent menu item. So I got to enjoy this every single day I worked there over 3 years.

So, i made these ribs today. Just slight adjustments on the sugar part of the Sauce, because i dont like overly sweet BBQ sauces. Fun fact, McRibs don't actually contain ribs, they're shaped patties made from texture organ meat. Watching you take a bite of one was enough to make my stomach churn. Thank you for the sacrifices you made to make what the product should be, instead of what it is.

Confessed McRib obsessed. When I went vegan(plant based), the one thing I craved was McRib. I discovered the replacement for that 74 ingredient food depended upon the BBQ sauce, Pickle and Raw Vidalia onion. When I am.craving, I use a Beyond meat burger or a "chicken" patty. The McRib flavor is the BBQ sauce, Raw Onion and Pickle! Thanks.for the BBQ sauce recipe. I grew up on home-made but love commercial. I think the Worcester sauce might be the trick to making my own? Anchovies are always the key? Thank you!

Agreed. They were so good when they first came out but the last ones I had (over 10 years ago) were NOT GOOD. After the first substandard one, I tried it a couple of more times to make sure it wasn’t a fluke. It’s possible the recipe or method changed but I think it’s just that my palate has matured. I taught myself to cook food from scratch and have been unable to eat 90% of "fast" or processed foods since. Even food from most chain restaurants are hit and miss. Now, when I see the commercials announcing "the return of the McRib", I no longer have to feel forever bereft of one of my former favorite specialty sandwiches.

I went to hong kong a couple years back and their mcdonald’s has something called a prosperity burger that’s pretty similar to a mcrib. it’s pretty much a beef patty smothered in a garlicky sauce topped with a hash brown and sandwiched between two sesame rolls, and yeah, it’s really good. Try it if you can.

I can partially answer that (from my perspective)...It's a nostalgia thing for me. First rib sandwiches in school was a thing and it reminds me of those lunchtimes...also my dad really liked them when he had them in the 90s. I love my dad, and I miss him. They aren't great...but they are good enough so couple that with nostalgia...i'll buy em everytime that come out 🙂

I have a really funny story about the McRib. In the late 2000's I was riding in the car with my dad when we stopped at McDonalds for food and my dad got a McRib. As we drove home we were eating our burgers, and my dad squirted bbq onto himself, and swerved all over the road. A police officer pulled him over and questioned why he was swerving. My dad said "I'm sorry officer, I dropped bbq on myself from my mcrib." to which the officer, shocked, replied "My god! the McRib is back?! Have a good day sir!" and ran back to his cruiser and peeled away. It was like something out of a commercial.

For instance, with respect to KFC, check out "Glenn & Friends Cooking" who devoted a real amount of time to trying to understand KFC and the recipe changes over time. I save brisket drippings (or anything else I smoke) in the freezer, WAY better than liquid smoke for bbq sauces, meatloaf, burgers, etc. I mean not gonna throw away all the juices, that's madness. I used Tomatoes and zucchini as braising 'liquid' last time I made a brisket.

I made this and it was amazing! I substituted my family BBQ sauce and it was an absolute hit! I made two racks of ribs one with the sherry vinegar one without. The bones came much easier out of the ones with the vinegar. But 10/10 would recommend and will make again!

I had one for the first time when they came back a few years ago. I found it...edible. It was ok, but definitely not something I'd drive out of my way for. I'm still not sure why people go nuts over it.
