As a doctor and mom to 4 my views on work life balance involve identifying a long-term balance (or as some would say, harmony) rather than focusing on if you feel balance at any one point in time. Looking back over the past 3 months or 3 years, is your pendulum lining up?
When my harmony is feeling challenged I try to spend my weekday off from my job as an ObGyn physician and focus only on something I feel I've not given enough full focus in the past several weeks. Today, that's Milo!
We're hanging out for a mommy-Milo day and taking you along with us!

Milo is so cute. I also love that you called daycare "school" . As a daycare teacher it means a lot when we are considered teacher and not just babysitters.

Wow I have never had anyone like my comment before. Also I have no work life balance and that most likely why I am 38 and single. I go in hour or more early to get activity and the room ready for the day. Do lesson plans at home stuff like that

@Jennifer Deal I call it school too! There are definitely some daycares out there that are just "glorified babysitting", but in my opinion so many more are amazing at facilitating kid's growth and development! My 2 1/2 year old daughter absolutely LOVES her school and her teachers, and she always comes home talking about something new that she has learned. We think it's so good for her and we are grateful to the amazing daycare teachers (who of whom she adores and is like a second mom to her ♥️).

3:46 My mom invented the "dog-spotting game" to stop us from falling asleep. Each time you spot a dog you call out and if you call out first, you get a point. We still play it to this day. I'm 46.

This is just the sweetest.. also, I dunno how you do it - i'm about to have my second and think about how I can barely balance with one kiddo. You've got 4 kids, a demanding job, plus you do these videos and whatever other things too! Wow, phew, great work.

You are so normal! We need more vlogs of normal moms trying to balance life, keeping babies awake in the car and not being crazy about food, tv, germs, working out or anything. (All of these things are important, but nothing to get crazy about)

I definitely need to hear this. As a stay at home mom I put way to much pressure on myself to keep everything clean and moving. At the end of the day I beat myself up over something as dumb as the laundry not getting folded or the counters being dirty. I try and put myself in someone else's shoes, wither I would judge them or not for it.

Congrats. I'm expecting baby #2 near end of Oct (just a month and a half before I graduate 😭 idk how I'm gonna manage the rest of the semester with 4 classes, a 4 yr old, and newborn). I'm taking a gap year before I try dental school as I dont do well with school and a child less than a year old (from experience with my firstborn) lol Children are rewarding! Good luck to you momma! :)

Those first few seconds, when the point is being made about the “balance on a (slightly) long(er) timeframe” honestly makes my day. Thank you, MDJ! This is exactly how we as a family learned to deal with unexpected situations about our severely handicapped son in daily, monthly or sometimes even longer “schedules”. Doing the best you can is all one can asked for his/herself.

I want to share an honest opinion and/or observation. I struggle with the concept that you can be the best mom you can be if you work. I work 30 hours a week and I suffer from mom guilt a lot. I feel like because I have to work, I'm not there for my kids as much as they may need me. If they had a bad day at school, they have to sit on those unhappy feelings with no one to talk to till I get home. Our house is also not as clean and organized as I'd like because of my having to work. And don't even get me started on having to miss their Christmas concerts, Halloween parades and school open houses, etc. I'll be honest, I don't understand why moms choose to work. It's so hard!
@elenav8453
@elenav8453 4 жыл бұрын
If it can be of any consolation: my mom is a teacher too so when I had school plays and Christmas concerts she was never there cause she had to attend the one of her own pupils! My dad came, obviously, but I was NEVER resentful to my mom for that. She had to work, I understood that and moved on with my life.

Although I have never liked babies and children there are two things that fascinate me with them: their ability to pick up language and words very quickly and know what words to use and when when they haven't been taught those words, and their ability to walk. Have never regretted having children. Best decision I made for them - not for me.

The worst is when you go for a longer drive and you actually want the kids to sleep in the car but they stay alert right up till the last 5 minutes and then they fall asleep just before destination arrival. And picking them up out of the car to put them in their beds and continue sleeping virtually never works... I'm desperate for my baby to fall asleep right now so I can finally eat my ramen noodles and pump some milk for tomorrow.

That play-place looks AMAZING. I live in Utah, which is arguably kid capital of the US lol, and we don't have anything that cool! In fact, I sort of feel like our area is really lacking in play-places and outings in general. Sure, we have great outdoor stuff, but that's no good for a 3 year old in January on a weekday. Ugh. Anyway, I totally think the perspective and balance is key. I'm a SAHM, but I know some days I have to make the kids play alone so chores can happen and I try not to beat myself up if I know I'm balancing that out with days to the aquarium. I just found your channel, but I'm planning on sharing with my BFF too since she has a 1 year old and is pregnant and is trying to finish her PhD and her husband is starting his residency soon - woah. She'll enjoy the solidarity and your perspective!

What a fun day! I noticed Pax must have been at daycare. I struggle with feeling like if I’m not at work or get off early, I HAVE to have my 8 month old with me. It makes it hard to get stuff done or do things for me like work out. I don’t know why I feel guilty about leaving him at daycare for an extra two hours :/
