You're absolutely right ...... you can never have too many photo's of your dog and they don't ask for copies of the shot or have to sign a model release form 😉

I really enjoy your videos, straight forward and easy to watch. After many years of Digital I went back to medium and 35mm film. Like to see more Tech takes, like how you spot meter, it’s still a weak link with me. Thanks for your presentations and love Barney playing around.

Thank you Craig for your leisurely story about film photography. I've noticed 35mm scanner on your desk.It reminds me CanoScan FS 4000US. If it's one, are you using original plastic film holders? Holders of my scanner were broken and it is untouched.
@CraigPrentisPhoto

I’ve been shooting over 40 years, various cameras depending on the situation, but always prefer my Rolleiflex TLRs. Meter in my head, and can highly recommend you trying a roll of Rollei Ortho 25. Should give amazing results with your setup.

I've been a Mamiya fan since early in my analog shooting career. I've never shot with the 7, but I've owned and shot with the C220, C330 & RB67 (I still have a complete set of RB gear). The 7 has always fascinated me because of the ease of shooting with it. It's nice to see a video with one being used in such a nice environment. Thanks for sharing!

Hi John, I've never shot with those TLRs but I used the RZs at college years ago and seem to be spending a lot of time on eBay looking at RZs and RBs as a future purchase! The 7 is really nice to use - compact and portable and the quality is excellent. They'll definitely be more coming from this soon. Thanks for watching.

Evening Craig - really enjoyed seeing you and Barney shoot. As a film shooter I obviously love seeing this type of content and viewing each indivduals process. How did you meter with portra out of interest? I normally rate it at 200 and then meter for the shadows as it were.
@CraigPrentisPhoto
@CraigPrentisPhoto 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam, yes that's pretty much it - metering for the shadows and stopping down by 1-2 stops and letting the highlights take care of themselves. I did meter for the sky in the last silhouette shots but I wasn't looking to get detail in the tree. Thanks for watching - I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Morning Craig.... yup I watch as film is of an interest to me although I am a digital shooter. I have not the patience to go through the process you have to to see an end result but completely understand the enjoyment that process must give you. Film certainly gives a different look n feel to images and I find I like to watch and view the images for a few views before I warm to them - if that makes sense? Was interested to see the camera you shot with and shocked when I saw what price they go for 2nd hand on Ebay.. wow! I recently bought a 35m Canon just to have a go at shooting film and sent the images off to be processed. The scans came back at a fairly low resolution so if I have another go I will have to see if they can be done at a bigger file size as they were too small to really work on. Also I shot colour and fell maybe B&W might be more what I am looking for? Anyway, look forward to your next vlog - tfs. PS Sunday morning viewing and a notification vlog has just popped up - another film shooter !! Good hob its raining out there, plenty to enjoy indoors today :)

Hi Alan, yes at the moment I’m getting a lot more enjoyment out of shooting film over digital. I know I could shoot all of this stuff on digital and it would be so much simpler but I enjoy using the film cameras, the different film stocks and going through the analogue process. You get a different look with each film and getting to understand each one’s characteristics and nuances is all part of the learning process. I saw that you bought a 35mm camera recently. I kept hold of my old Canon 35mm scanner and so I use that for 35mm and can scan to quite a good resolution. It’s funny with film cameras. The market plummeted years ago as everyone was selling their gear but now there is certain kit that is going back up in price. I bought the Mamiya about 2 years ago and I think it’s now worth about £500 more than I paid for it then. That would never happen with digital. You only ever lose money on digital cameras and the new models just keep on coming every few months. I’m taking a guess on Steve O’Nions popping up in your notifications? If so, I have that one to enjoy later. Thanks for watching Alan, I really appreciate your comments.

what chemicals do you use to develop Portra? I heard Tetenal has financial issues, and they supply a lot of color film chemicals.
@CraigPrentisPhoto
@CraigPrentisPhoto 5 жыл бұрын
Steve H I’m developing with the Tetenal C41 kit. I still have about a litre to mix so that should keep me going for a few more rolls. I heard that too about Tetenal.

Well, I just saw your past viog on c41, I should have looked. I think Tetenal may not go out of business, maybe some rearranging and it'll get better for them.
