This is why slapstick comedy really needs to make a comeback. Comedians like Rowan Atkinson I admire for keeping this secret art alive

The other day, my whole family watched Man vs. Bee together. There were ten of us in the room, aged 4 to 76, and we were all laughing and enjoying. What a sweet moment, and what talent from Rowan Atkinson.

Without the end credits and Netflix intros, this series runs a tight 90 minutes. I'd love to see more shows like this.

I really hope this show is a massive success to bring back good and old physical, slapstick comedy, done right.

Peter MacNicol's complete and utter freakout in the 1997 movie "Bean" when he sees the butchered painting never ceases to make me laugh.

This really feels like a new Mr. Bean series and despite the admittedly dodgy CGI at some places the show works.

I don't think it's the fact that it's a "Short". It's Rowan fucking Atkinson. He is a consummate comedian, in every sense of the word. He could make reciting they entire Library of Congress fucking hilarious if he put his mind to it.

It's a different genre altogether, but it's an idea related to runtime I brought up to my wife years ago. She had a police procedural, no idea which one, on in the background. The bad guy had kidnapped a woman and had her hostage on a houseboat. At about thirty minutes into the 60 minute episode, he put a gun to his own head, then to hers. I shouted, "GEE, THINK HE'LL DO IT WITH HALF THE RUNTIME LEFT?" It gave me an idea- a mystery or police show on streaming that would make some effort to hide the episode length from you. You might have to screw around with the digital architecture on Netflix or something to make that work, but I feel like a mystery you don't know the runtime of would be super cool. It's like how movies can be so engrossing if they're really good and you don't look at your phone, just let time become irrelevant. I remember in college I'd watch new episodes of Marble Hornets on my Wii U, on the TV screen, and refuse to look at the time remaining. That was a cool way to get really engrossed.

Rowan Atkinson simply doesn't age. A bit of hair dye and strategic makeup and he could easily play young Blackadder again

Atkinson is a comedic phenomenon. But it’s a shame he hasn’t returned to playing Inspector Maigret. That’s a good idea for an episode, when comedians go serious.

I didn't plan on watching this, but started it the other day. Soon the whole family was watching and laughing our heads off. It reminded me of when we discovered Mr. Bean on public TV back in the 90's

I thought this was a great vehicle for Rowan Atkinson. It's basically Mr Bean, but because he's playing a real person it's OK that he's older. Rather than a live action cartoon character, like Mr Bean, that feels a bit sad as an old man. While I hope there is no man vs bee 2, I hope the concept/character can live on and maybe hear about the man vs shredder that was hinted at.

Forget Vecna in Stranger Things, I would argue the bee is the greatest villain we’ve ever seen in a Netflix show.

glad to see ratkins getting more work. I like that he can be beanesque without being bean. Too many creators are like... oh i'm leaving that behind entirely.. followed by nevermind i'm milking that forever. There is a medium!

Will Ferrell always was the embodiment of anti-humor for me. Never managed to make me laugh and even in these short clips he manages to annoy me somehow. Rowan Atkinson on the other hand is just naturally funny and charming, whether it be in his roles or in interviews where his intellect also shines trough.

Saw this with wife and daughter. We loved it.

I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again… Rowan Atkinson is the best Doctor that never was in Doctor Who history. The man is more than diverse enough to pull all kinds of roles.

There is no other channel like it, and if there is, I'm sure they got their inspiration from you. I used to freeze my face on Duo on android and people thought the streaming froze.

I just watched this yesterday and absolutely loved it. You could easily watch it on mute and still understand everthing and laugh just as much. I might watch it a second time this weekend and try that.

Another recent show (also on Netflix) that experiments with shorter runtimes is Aunty Donna's Big Ol' House of Fun. It's an Aussie sketch comedy show (which is considered genius to some, grating to others), and the episodes rang from average 20 minute runtimes, to only 12!

I thought the show was fine, it wasn’t my absolute favorite, but it was an easy show to watch with its short runtime (The perfect binging model imo). I do agree that it’s a nice throwback to classic comedy shorts.

I already wanted to see this because it reminded me to the movie "Mouse Hunt" that you also made a video about it. But now I want to see it more.

The best part about streaming is that shows can tell a story in whatever time it needs. The problem with streaming is that audiences think that every episode should be as long as possible,even when the story doesn't need that long of a run time.

I downloaded this to watch while I didn’t have internet. It didn’t realize it was so short!! It was delightfully funny and we binged it😅

rowan Atkinson still has good genetics. he's like 67 and still looks fantastic. one of thing i never found realistic is who has the balls in fighting against a stinking bee... i would run for my life. haha. i mean he tried to kill it like its an annoying fly.

Netflix has been doing short form series a lot lately with shows like It’s Bruno, Bonding, Special and Man vs Bee. Really glad they doing that!

CBC has done a few shows (the Plateaus, This Blows) that have 10-15 minutes episodes. Both shows are worth checking out

One of those shows that you will watch all the way through hoping that it will get better but then regret all the time you wasted when it never does.

This is a good show and I like that the episodes are short, but seemed like Mr. Bean only with dialogue. Also reminded me of that movie which I also loved.

I really enjoyed this series! I'm a big Rowan Atkinson fan, my best friend has met him actually. My parents have been to see Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson live who are very well known comedians in the UK and I'm a big fan of them too. I'm quite jealous tbh but I still think it's very cool.

This show to me was just pure genius. Rowan Atkinson is just too funny😂. Although he’s a little bit more mature because he’s older now but just the whole premise of this show and story is fresh and still funny. We need more comedy like this and Jackie Chan does use physical comedy but with stunts. Still, he’s only the few comedians that can pull these physical comedies off and make it still funny and enjoyable.

This is such a refreshing form of comedy.

This show reminds me of the movie mouse hunt. Which has a similar premise but instead it's two men and they're trying to get rid of a mouse, but ultimately fail in every attempt they make.

When I watched it, it was presented to me in a movie format. I remember being confused because it said series, but was just one long video.

I just figured they set out to make a movie but figured Netflix audiences would be more likely to watch a series over a movie

When I realized the episodes were only 10 minutes I was flabbergasted. It was just a great time but I would’ve wanted so much more of it.

MouseHunt is another Tom and Jerry-esque movie that I really love because of its runtime.

I just started watching this series and this video sort of perplexed me. I had not really noticed the episode transitions, it really just feels more like a normal length comedy movie. Are we sure they did not just cut a movie into pieces?

I saw the trailer and got 'Mousehunt' vibes.

What I am surprised is the use of CGI at such a regular interval. You can clearly see the difference between the natural (1990's version) and the CGI used (2022's version)
