Final part in our three part series on How to Build a Timber Frame Pavilion or Gazebo. I wanted the garden pavilion to be designed and built in a timber frame style with some simple joinery. This open wooden structure is the centre piece in our garden. Basic carpentry skills are all you need. Pavilion Plans available for download. Gazebo and pavilion designs are plentiful and there's lots of options. Have a look at the shed roof style timber frame gazebo ideas I came up with using post and beam.

Not only is your content fantastic, but your editing is positively EPIC! I Love, love, LOVE how you edited several segments to show you working beside yourself! I would never have thought of that on my own and I was deeply impressed by that bit of creativity. Exceptional job both with the project and the video presentation.

I sure appreciate your little reminders and tricks so that we won’t make mistakes that cost us time or extra cost. I love the design of the pavilion. And the 1/4 ellipse template is a perfect keeper for all design element features going into all of the builds around the property.

It goes without saying, that your deep melodious, resonant voice, is as pleasing to the ear as the magnificently artistic and harmonious workmanship that you are engaged in. The fastidious and patient attention to detail,... Is the key in producing such magnificent craftsmanship, and deserves a blue ribbon for extraordinary achievement!

@@MANaboutTOOLS Kent, well at least you can start storing your garden furniture, BBQ etc out of the weather. Come to think of it, you can put plants under cover too. We do clean up chores outside pretty much all year around, it would be nice to be able to take a sit down break in the garden in the dry this time of year. Your gazebo has 4 season appeal to us. Good luck.

An outstanding set of videos - I've just watched all 3. They're informative and entertaining at the same time. My wife and I built a similar project together a few years ago with great results. I'd love to build a decorative/functional piece like this in my garden as well. Your videos will help me to convince my bride to roll up her sleeves again... :) Great job and thanks for your KZfaq channel. I'm a new subscriber.

Hello, love your video on this particular build, thanks for sharing the build. Can you let me know if you can provide a video of this pavilion when it is raining out, I am thinking of using this design(originally was going for gable style roof) to build my pavilion at 12 by 16. It will be something that is used quite a bit for a shaded sitting area and bbq area. I am just curious on the how it handle the rain, we live on west coast and we get alot. Thank you.

Absolutely beautiful!!! You don’t mind I think I am going to copy that as close as I can except I might go longer. This would be absolutely perfect for my farm. I have a 21 acre organic produce farm and all of my crops are sold at a roadside stand I put up each year but I need/want something permanent yet attractive and this pavilion scores as high as it could get. I’m so glad I found your channel and I went ahead and subscribed cause it appears you have some excellent videos to watch, take care and thanks again!!!!

Don, thank you so much for your kind words and support. I'm very happy how this structure turned out. If I was going to do it again I would probably use slightly larger braces. And I'd use a "blade" style post bracket instead of the ones that attach with an anchor bolt only. Live and learn. Cheers, Kent

Very cool. Timber framing is underutilized as a way of building now a days. My only question is why you put the metal drip edge over the panels as opposed to putting them down underneath the roofing panels. I know all metal roof systems are different but I have always known to go underneath. Still no matter what an amazing build and truly a work of craftsmanship. I love it and hope to do a project like this of my own some day.

Kent, as you had you own supply of timber - the choice was easy. If, like me, you start from scratch and could source lumber ... would you change the wood type, or change the dimension of any of the components. Thanks Chris
@MANaboutTOOLS
@MANaboutTOOLS 5 жыл бұрын
Chris, I think I would stick with cedar and fir. However, something in the middle (strength and weight) might be a good option too. The cedar is nice, but crazy expensive to buy. The fir is really strong (relatively) but maybe too heavy. I wonder if pine is a good one. I'd really like to hear what others have to add to that. Cheers, Kent

@MANaboutTOOLS
@MANaboutTOOLS 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! You could, but the underside of my roofing panels was white, and I didn't like that look. Also, the panels can sweat during temp changes and drip. So the tar paper looks after that. Cheers, Kent

How much did the project cost? Great build.
@MANaboutTOOLS
@MANaboutTOOLS 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's difficult to estimate the cost as the lumber was milled from trees felled on our property and I built the pavilion myself. Sketchup tells me there are about 720 board feet of wood in the structure. It's mostly red cedar with fir for the rafters.

Overall I like the pavilion very very much but i can't understand why you didn't cover the whole roof with timber instead of leaving space between strips that leave the tar paper(which is ugly in my opinion)in sight when you are under the pavilion. The job however remains beautiful. Congrats.

MAN about TOOLS In England where I live; timber is really expensive. And. We can have any type of wood so long as it’s pine! 🙄 I’d really love western red cedar as it’s light durable and weather resistant.
