I don't aggree on this unfortunately, being noisy doesn't mean being unproductive at all cases, in this case you should understand and inspect the feedbacks coming from your student...as a novice teacher I can tell that unless they feel comfy enough, they don't learn and they get a tendency of being silent even though they have a question to ask ...

@@sabitkondakc9147 There's a difference between productive noise, and distracted noise. And people walking around means they aren't focussed.

No of course you're not alone! And the tricky part is that what will work for one class won't always work for another. It takes time to get to know them and what they respond best to. It would be very hard on an internship to know that in your short time there. I would be asking you mentor for key phrases or language that would be best to use for that particular class. Perhaps note down language your mentor teacher uses and attempt to replicate it for similar lessons/activities. See if you can adapt it to suit the focus of what you are teaching. If you can observe some other teachers in the school it will provide you with more examples as well. Pausing is good! It allows reception and response time for the kids. Making sure they are paying attention and absorbing what's going on. Don't stress it takes time ❤️

Kids can tell when a teacher is new or unsure. Sometimes it's hard when kids test the boundaries. Does your school have a set behaviour system or are you using your own?

@@Dina-ds8jd Hi Dina 😀 it makes it difficult if the school doesn't take a whole-school approach to behaviour management. But at least this gives you the opportunity to establish your own and keep it consistent with your students. I would recommend checking out some systems that other teachers share online and adapting to suit you and your kids. I love class dojo and think it's really beneficial 😀 but that are lots of other methods that work well. It's important to maintain a balance between positive reinforcement, reward systems and consequences. Then you need to be very explicit about the processes with your kids - its very useful to include them in the process too. Ask them what rewards they would like to work towards, what they feel warrants a consequence and what they think are appropriate consequences - that way when it happens you can remind them that its a system they helped design and agreed on. And you can modify if you all feel there needs to be changes. I hope this helps! 😀

Hi Manjari. Kindergarten can be very tricky as they get used to school routines and expectations. Plus they really like to move around hehe. It's worthwhile to make sure they have some opportunities to play in their learning and then they will be less restless when its time to sit together. For the singing I would give them the chance to choose some of the songs so it makes them more engaged in the learning. Does your school have its own rules or behaviour system to follow?

Hi Manjari, I understand how you must feel!! It's pretty overwhelming, I have been through that as well. But most of the time, kids act up when they don't have very clear limits or rules. We adults often assume that kids "know" how to behave the way we want them to do, but the fact is - the minute that children realise that a teacher feels "helpless" (and they are very sharp and quick to realise) - they begin to misbehave. You do need some time for play but if you have a syllabus to follow, you need to make it very clear in a calm but firm tone, exactly what you expect them to do. Have a zero-tolerance policy, or they will learn not to take you seriously. Use a whistle or clap your hands to get their attention, rather than shouting. Try as much as possible to establish eye contact with all the kids in turn. And keep your whistle handy at all times! You could even make a sort of "game" out of it: one short loud whistle means 'stop what you are doing and listen to me" and two blasts on the whistle could signal a brain break. Try to plan your lesson to include plenty of movement and songs; change activity frequently and pay attention to structure. Be not only their teacher, but a sort of entertainer as well.... find creative ways to attract and hold their attention. Hand puppets, if you can get hold of them, are a wonderful resource!! It takes a lot of effort on the part of the teacher - believe me. But you will soon take control of the class and they will be happy to come to class.

Hi Hailey! It depends on the reason they don't respond. Is it because it was too noisy to hear? They don't know the response? Or are they misbehaving? If they didnt hear then I would just try again with some actions added so they can see. If they are misbehaving then I'll try a different one. It really comes down to the group you're with. Another option to get them on side is say you'll pick a student to do the call and response. Makes them more engaged in it if their friend is doing it 😉

The most effective way for the Ls to be successful is to still make accommodations for students where needed. For example when I say 'legs ready' that doesnt mean everu kid crossing their legs all the same way. They just need to indicate that their body is ready for learning. Sometimes that might mean they are on a chair with a wobbly rubber band to wriggle their legs on. It just means ready for their needs. Differentiation is key in all elements of teaching 😊

I start doing some Auslan (obviously they know some beforehand). They all stop doing what they're doing so they can figure out what I'm saying. My class this year have been the noisiest bunch I've ever met 😂

@@delr3151 good point; keyword BULL**. Make your instructions concise and succinct. No rambling. Students should be talking more than the teacher.

In my teaching system Assistant Principals are also classroom teachers. They are executive staff but also have a their own class or a teaching load in a different way such as release teacher, support etc. I have done both. I was a classroom teacher for about ten years before becoming an Assistant Principal (AP). Then as an AP I still had my own class for 5 years before becoming an off-class AP in a mentoring role. I still teach but now to mentor other teachers. I provide demonstration lessons etc. 😀

I have my pupils lined up quietly outside before we start. I let them in in my terms because if you let them in their terms, they would be probably still chatty from their last subject class. It puts them to lukewarm mode. Instead of saying, Mary, dont talk to Hannah. What did I said, no talking while in line. I will say, Helen thank you so much for cooperating, for lining up quietly. You may go inside now.

Wow thats a very big class! I hope some of my suggestions help. Perhaps music would be a good option for a class that size. Put on a song for 20 seconds and teach them that by the end of the music they should be be quiet - maybe tell them they have to do a dance pose at the end and you will pick the best one 😀
