In this video, I show you how I repair a collapsed manhole cover.
The brickwork that was supporting the frame had collapsed into the manhole and the chamber below, this was probably caused by heavy traffic going over the manhole cover so I had to strip it all back to allow for some prestressed lintels to go across the manhole and bridge the manhole, so I could set the frame back in. I used prestressed lintels to do this. A prestressed lintel means they have heightened strength by the way of steel wires which have been set to high tension, running through the middle of the lintel.
They are designed to support structural loadings above openings in internal and external masonry walls and worked perfectly for bridging over the manhole so I could set the frame back in and do the repairs.
