Honestly I like this take on the yandere trope. It's quite a bit different than the usual run or die situation that we find ourselves in. Instead of viewing her as some freak, John finds her somebody just like him and attempts to help her. This is turning out cuter than expected.

This game continues to impress me. I'm still enjoying John and Lizzie's dynamic. I feel like John's depression is being portrayed well, and Lizzie's unhealthy obsession being recognized and an effort being made to treat it is nice to see. Throughout the video, I found myself genuinely hoping, despite all my expectations, that this game could end happily for both of them. That last part obviously changed my thinking. Now I'm just hoping John has all of his limbs in the next part.

It's almost a format-screw, she's placed as if she's actually part of the background in a VN where almost every shot has characters placed in front of it. It's scary because you're not expecting anything to appear in the scene like that. It's subtle, but effective.

When she said she hadn't slept my heart sank. She really seems to be behaving like she's in a serious manic episode. It hit home for me cos I've been there, and not sleeping was one of the biggest ways to spiral out of control. But that said, I'm fascinated by this idea for a yandere story and curious to see where it'll end up...

I know the story is just going to keep getting crazier but I'm still really impressed with the writing so far. Like there's this part of you that really want them to be together because they have these really sweet moments but you know it's not healthy in the long run. I actually think it makes a lot of sense that a depressed person would end up somewhat liking a yandere. Like you feel worthless like no one could ever love you and then this person bounds into your life and is like, I'll love you no matter what I think you're the most important person. Is it healthy? No, but at least at the height of my depression, I would desperately chase anything to feel just a bit like someone cared.

Usually it's the yandere that threatens to kill people or the protag. But now, the yandere has to work extra hard to make sure her beloved doesn't just commit suicide. Which is kinda interesting seeing the usually "HAHAH I'm crazy love me" to "No no no stop. I sincerely love you, so please don't kill yourself"

A thing this game is doing well is it combining multiple tropes into one character(s). I know writing unique characters can be hard so writers lean on tropes, but Lizzie is the better example of this, even though the yandere trope is clearly dominated she still shows signs of being the naive foreign girl trope(I'm basing this off her being a blonde blue eyes girl in a school with Sakura trees) and the air headed ditzy girl trope. This is what a lot of anime/manga should do so tropes don't become more stale than they already are.

I actually like how well written this is, it understands PTSD, depression, as well as anxiety and psychological problems. Their relationship is cute as well. She doesn’t like how she feels after she takes the medicine and is afraid of her emotions, he’s a self doubting loner who would cling to any person who can be around him. I understand how depression and anxiety can bring those down around you, mostly because my sister has it, and I understand what it’s like to be afraid of new feelings. Mostly because of PTSD.

Why! With the cliffhangers! You really make it seem like you know how and when to end these videos! This has been an interesting read so far though, instead of beng just another novel about depression or instead of being just another novel about a yandere, it instead combines both and tackles a yandere type character in such a tame way, like how a normal human would react to a real life yandere (at least so far). Im hooked and I want more, I can't wait for the next episodes.

-- Long ass comment (sorry, I love to hear myself think) -- The quality of the actual writing leaves something to be desired (I'm not sure if this is a translation, but still), but I feel like John and Lizzie are both original and accurate enough. I can't help but think that the portrayal of John's depression is contradictory. His insecurity is too great, so much so that it skews his entire perception of the world; and when someone is as depressed as he is, they normally wouldn't care enough to drag themselves out of a low just to make sure their schoolwork is done. He admits himself to not caring about school, after all. He should either be so depressed that schoolwork wouldn't matter, or not enough to be so fragile. Scientifically, depression is a systemic thing--you don't get supremely dejected in one area of your life and remain relatively the same in another. Still, it is such a personal thing, and does manifest differently in everyone, so I'm not saying it's impossible. Perhaps the boring and blunt writing style is complicating things as well. Lizzie's take on yandere is really refreshing to me, but I wish the story would move along a bit more. Intentionally not having things go wrong when you expect them to is creepy at first, but if overused it becomes stagnant. Nonetheless, I am super loving all the choices that the game offers you. It feels so much more realistic. Normally when you have a choice, there are multiple options, not just two polar opposite ones that clearly indicate which ending you're heading towards. I also appreciate that Lizzie and John feel more like IRL people than anime tropes - it's fantastic that they are aware of, and admit to, their flaws. The developers had a stellar vision, but I personally and selfishly wish they had had more experienced people to bring that vision to life. Still waiting to see where this game goes, and what different endings there are.
