He uses 14oz for heavy, 10oz for mitts, 16oz for sparring, and 8oz (Cleto Reyes) for fights. (You only use 10oz if you're fighting at 154 or higher)

@@mumble97 he's bull shitting. he use 10oz fight gloves for mitts and bagwork. You can tell by the logo on the glove and when you get a close-up it says 10 oz. He spars in 14oz, you can tell by the size and when there are close-ups on the gloves you can see the 14oz label on the palm of the winning gloves.. Even in his old sparring videos with the Twins Gloves, it says 14oz on the cuff.

It's awesome seeing the body mechanics and natural strengths that everyone has when they do bagwork. It's apparent Manny doesn't ever load up to create enough torque for a one-punch knockout. In fact you don't see him twist and turn over like most boxers classically do. Like Shane said, Pac's hands travel very little distance from where his guard is. That gives Manny a speed advantage, but for most boxers that doesn't give you really any power behind the shots. The reason why Manny can get away with this is he has consistent sting and zing behind all these shots. They're not one-punch knockouts, but fuck each shot has a strong zap to them and obviously like I said earlier, he can throw a lot of them very fast and in a way where you can't see the shot coming since he doesn't rely as much on typical punch technique that can be read by a trained opponent. So if you can't read where his punches are going, he's packing natural fire behind each shot, and he can unload a lot at one time what happens is you become vastly overwhelmed, drained, and hurt by barrages. What a unique fighter.
@vincentmendoza36298 жыл бұрын
I agree with everything you said. Pacquiao's punching technique is not what trainers teach you at gyms. The way he throws his punches is different because he doesnt rely on rotating and pushing his punches but more on snapping each punch while putting weight on both feet. I am a boxer myself and I have tried to duplicate how manny throws and punches and im actually quite proud of how I do it because I only got if from watching youtube videos of manny (and of course i also go to a real boxing gym not just by youtube vidos) but the speed and power that pacquiao can produce is absolutely extraordinary
@johnwhite63467 жыл бұрын
icekilleZ z him and ggg are at the opposite side of the spectrum,ggg hits solid punches every time chopping you down.manny uses combinations to wear you out.perfect example was margarito he handed him a beating.in out never planting his feet but he still hits hard
@alexong25425 жыл бұрын
there are many types of punches, some train to knock out with just one or two punches, some train push punches, some train snapping punches, some train punches that may not knock you out but they sting like hell. lightweight fighters like Pacquiao and Mayweather may not pack enough power to knock someone out like heavyweights like Tyson or Big George, but their punches do sting and hurt , like multiple machine gun shots, whereas Tyson and Big George are like time bombs or cannons.

Im a big Manny Pacquiao fan. Always have been. He has some of the best footwork ive ever seen in the ring. The only problem i have with him is that he makes alot of mistakes. Dont get me wrong, he is definitely a hall of famer, and deserves everything he has accomplished, but I feel like a fight with Mayweather would expose his mistakes. Cant wait to see him fight TIm Bradley June 9th!

What is good about Manny everytime he does Mitts,Heavybag and shadow box he works also in his footwork, timing and head movements. I watch a lot of boxer they just hit the bag and not moving there feet they do mitts only upper Body works they do punching combination but there feet is not moving.
@KiraTheUnleashed3 жыл бұрын
jab-cross-jab-cross repeat and occasional lead uppercut while circling/pivoting with head movement. At times he does perform head movement and in and out movement but that's what his most of heavy bag training looks like. What his unique about him is he is mostly moving while punching and his punches are very fast and powerful. I think that has to do with his unique technique, he doesn't torque so much. Most of his punches do not fully extend and few punches he doesn't bring completely back to his face.

@operation61 There is a reason why Roach holds a close gym for training in the Wild Card gym when training Pacquiao. He doesn't want a lot of distraction like this training session. That's why Roach likes to train in his wild card gym because he can control the crowd and train Pacquiao seriously. In the ring, fights are very mental as well. You need all your concentration to win.

@toby099 • I never said Pacquiao punches as hard as Tyson or Marciano. Where did you read that? I'm merely pointing out how remarkable pacquaio's wrist size is, that a pint size boxer like him rivals those in the heavyweights. And like I said, in ortho literature, if you search Pubmed or Cinahl databases, you'll find articles suggesting the positive correlation between bone density &wrist size. This may be one of several reasons why Pacquiao punches hard for a man his size.

@TheRedzone11 Question is can and will pacquiao actually throw and land combinations like that on mayweather? We saw what happens when pacquiao fights a counter puncher of his size. He chased JMM around the ring and when he reached or lunged, got countered. Now if he fights floyd we are talking about and taller more skilled counter puncher with a longer reach. Pacquiao gets out of position a lot and a good CP exploits that. I personally think floyd would frustrate and pick him apart for 12.

@TMikeG26 Nope, strong bones means more durable and better chin, has nothing to do with harder punching - even IF it meant their knuckles were harder the padding in the gloves would mean it made no difference. It's all about core and leg strength as I've said, and shoulder snap.

@zepacishappyfeet Good point man.. Better gameplan wins i guess, im just pointing out the obvious. Well, REACH and TIMING indeed a good factor for FLOYD but Pacquiao has been neutralizing Reach advantages since De la hoya Fight and PAcman's timing can be Underrated because of his Aggresive approach as to Mayweathers pot shot approach which is based on timing. I think My point on this is Simple, Floyd cant hurt pacman, pacman will pressure him and run him down even on defense mode.

Understood completely but, the shoulder roll can be used against pac's right...as much as this matchup opens floyd up for a left down the pipe, it opens pac up for a right. In the first 4 rounds against Ortiz we saw how floyd's defense was still effective against a southpaw. I like pac so I'll have to see how he does in JMM4 first. But if pac & floyd were to fight now I worry about pac's height & length disadvantage, if JMM can handle pac's left by cping him, then floyd certainly can.

@MrBumboclart You need a solid core to effeciently transmit power generated from the legs. But your legs--and all the rest of the body--needs a solid framework. Two knockout artirst, Mike Tyson and Rocky Marciano, has a wrist size of 8 inches, same size as Pacquiao's. What's remarkable about Pacquiao's case is he is by no means a heavyweight as compared to the two. If you take a radiographic film of his frame, I bet it'll be much more dense than anybody his size. But, whatever you say man.
