Today's video talks about how to look at and think about the backswing in golf. Using a tennis racket, it's easy to see Club face position during the backswing.
As always, come see me at okeeheelee or Park Ridge.... and don't forget to like And subscribe to this page for more great videos

Thanks. In “Understanding the Golf Swing” Manuel talks about taking it back with the hands but doesn’t have visuals that demonstrate. This really helped me understand what he meant.

This actually works. I've spent years bouncing around in high single low double digits but I've always suffered the one or two BIG MISSES every round. After years of sports injuries golf started to literally hurt. I took Manuel's concepts to the rage this past summer and realized I've been approaching everything wrong. This truly is the foundation for a "swing for life." 99% of amateur golfers would benefit from this.

Trish, just a note that i have been playing golf for 39 years and you have been one of the best teachers I have enjoyed. I can tell you want us to get better. Using the non overlap and non interlocking grip for the first time on 8/2/22 I shot 105 on 18 holes and was feeling more in control than ever. With practice I expect to be under 100 regularly, soon. Thank you for making golf more fun than ever. Have a blessed day.

Absolutely golden advice about two hands, I've never seen it described like that but it makes so much sense. You might try visualizing your hands in the prayer position together, right hand even with the left so even though your right elbow bends and your right wrist will flex back your hands together will still be where the club face is pointing. Like a lot of things in golf once you get the concept and can see it works you can swing a full smooth swing.

Trish this is fantastic. I just purchased Manuel’s book last week and the swing felt way better, but my backswing was still a little long and I was still using a little too much hands at impact. I couldn’t understand that the hands drove the backswing until I saw this video. This may have been the missing piece. THANK YOU.

Hi Trish, I love you instructional videos and look forward to them. I have a quick question about the backswing. I understand that both hands start swinging the clubhead back. It appears that the hands begin breaking immediately. Is this correct?...Thx...Dan

Hi there, thank you so much for your comment. In answer to your question about the backswing being very long. Without having seen you, this will just be a guess. Make sure you are not letting go of the golf club at the top of your backswing. Do you wear your glove out at the heel pad of your hand? If so, my guess is your letting go of the club at the top of your backswing . Think about making a 3/4 swing and going from there.

@@815TeeTimeInc This is such a helpful comment. The heel pad of my glove always wear out and I have been commented on that my backswing is too long. Too long of a backswing makes it difficult for me to make consistent contact with the ball. Now that I am aware of this, I have made such great improvement. Thanks so much!

Question. I know you said swing the hands on the backswing, but would it be a good analogy to use that we swing the clubhead up in the backswing which is the same effectof swinging the hands to over the shoulder and then swing the arms to the target on the downswing?
@815TeeTimeInc
@815TeeTimeInc Жыл бұрын
Everything you said in the statement is absolutely correct. The only thing I would change is the word down swing.… It is a forward swing. Thank you so much for your comment.

Hi! Do you have any advise on figuring out what distance to stop in the backswing? Should the hands stop once it reaches the shoulder? Should you just rotate as much as possible, in accordance with your flexibility? I've noticed that your club at the top of your backswing is not fully parallel, so i'm not sure what is the correct distance, in terms of the club moving backwards in the backswing. Hope my question makes sense!
@815TeeTimeInc

I would say, swing the club back as far as your body will allow. Look for a video on this in the near future, this is a great topic. Thank you

You have described the backswing with the hands many times but i cant for the life of me figure out what that means. I cant picture the difference of using the hands versus using the arms. Probably a dumb question but im slow:) By using the hands, does it mean my elbows are basically going to be bending very quickly? I would come and see you tomorrow if i was anywhere close😂

Thanks. I have one question. Why modern instructors are saying not to move left knee or something like that and give more stress on thoracic spine. Is old school swing not optimal?

Hi there.... Thanks so much for your question.... My thing is this.... If you make the backswing with your hands to the top of your shoulder your right shoulder if you are right handed your left shoulder if you are left handed.... Your body.... The center of the circle.... Will respond accordingly. It may move the knee for some players it may not.... I am less concerned about how the body moves then I am about how the body responds naturally.... Does that make sense?
