Another excellent episode even for those who are not interested in buying either of these wheels but the fact that you brought up the ease (or otherwise) fitting of the tyres on gave me an idea for another episode you could make according to what tyres and wheels you have lying around at any given times. Maybe material for ongoing episodes ! This suggestion comes from experience of having bought MAVIC COSMIC carbon wheels (60 MM) but the tubeless Continental tyres were so tight that the (very well known) shop refused to even attempt to fit them on in case they damage the wheels so I had to settle for tyres plus tubes ! That was a disappointment ! My friend suggested a solution but happy to hear yours first if you have one ! I need those (tubeless) Contis in my life :)

Oh. Those Mavics 😖😡🥵🤬. Pirelli do ok, The Mavic own tyres work ok, but don’t grip or last. Hutchinson Fusion are good. Schwalbe are a worse fit than Conti. I’m not sure in vittoria or Goodyear.

Hi Paul, I enjoy your channel. A lot of useful information. I would like to take this opportunity to ask you a question. I weigh 103 kilos and ride a Giant TCR Pro 0 from 2021. I am less and less pleased with the current 42 cm depth. In addition, with an inner size of 19mm and outer size of 23mm, it is very narrow. they are hookless. I am looking for more comfort and speed. The Pico 46 ticks all the boxes except for the depth. Will 50mm or 55mm give me more aerodynamic advantage? How are your experiences with the standard Bitex hubs? My other choice could be Zipp 404 but the weight limit worries me. Also the bearings. I prefer hookless because ik believe in the ideas behind it. At 103kg I would look at the DT Swiss range. They are pretty much the only brand to rate their wheels to 130kg. You have to factor in bike weight, all your clothes and kit and a shock loading from hitting a pothole or dropping a kurb.

What is your preference between 24 & 28 spokes ? What is the benefit of either option ?

Simple weight vs strength (mostly) 24 for ave weight and road use. 28 for cross and gravel. 28 at rear for road if you are particularly powerful and like rapid acceleration.

Hi, great comparison. I’m considering both of these and also the Hunt 48 limitless. I’ve heard some bad reports of quality issues with the 303’s, is this something you’ve experienced and what do you think of the Hunt’s?

Some don’t like the raw finish of the Zipp. Not a fan of Hunt. Lots of spoke tension issues.

Thanks a lot for the review. Pacenti's are like 400$ more expensive, wich is a few bearings. BTW, can you fit campag 12 speed on the Zipp's?

Oh. There is only £150 difference here. Zipp only do Shimano and Sram freehubs as a build option, but I am sure there is an aftermarket campy freehub

Awesome video. Curious. Pacenti themselves. You said they were a British company but as I look, I keep saying handmade in USA. Not that any of it matters but I hate being asked about my gear and not knowing what to say. Haha

Long term review do you recommend the zipps for all around conditions forgetting the price of the bearings and free hub?

You would be replacing the bearings, axle, and freehub a lot. And be prepared for a few whee rebuilds as alu nipples corrode.

It doesn’t apply to bearings, but still a good choice. Loop back in when you service them and let us know.

Pacenti price is quite a bit more than the 303s which may be worth noting?

At the time of the video there was about £100 in it. Now the Zipp 303s are quite heavily discounted.

@@Mapdec now the Zipps are discounted Paul would you now chose the Zipps? Also I’ve heard the freehub on the Zipp can fall off with the cassette what’s all that about?

They are a compelling offer. Especially compared to a Facebook brand wheel. Freehub coming off is no big deal really. Most brands will do this if you pull hard enough. I really would push the budget to a Pacenti or FFWD if you can, especially if you want wheels for everyday, all weathers.

Not hookless, very narrow inner, for a wide outer width. Alloy nipples is a huge NO!

Both the wheels in the vid are over 23mm and hookless. It’s why I choose to compare them. 2 wheels on the forefront of development trend at that price point.

Either of these will be grand. Most others from Scribe, Venn, hunt etc all use a very similar mould. 21/30 with various iterations of Novatec hubs.
