I bought these wheels just last week, ended up scoring the last set. Very excited about the serviceability vs the course 30's I am currently running with zipps tubeless tires. It's a pain to get a tire off and on those wheels. So even if sealant can't get the job done knowing I can pull it off and patch it and get home is huge.

Great Video and a great set of wheels, When comparing to the Picco 46mm I think the Picco has a trump card against the Zipp. I'm quite a heavy lump (112kg) and like to ride gravel and road. The Picco doesn't have a maximum rider weight which is great for me whereas the Zipp has a 113kg rider limit. A weight limit won't be a consideration for most riders when buying a new set of wheels, however, it is a testament to the quality and strength of the picco 46mm.

I've been watching several of your videos lately (👍👍), and came across this one today while researching Zipp 303 Firecrests. I must say its perplexing to see you expect to mount a GP 5000 clincher tire on a hookless rim. I reviewed this video several times, each time checking to see if the GP 5000 was labeled "5000" or "5000 TL". It just labeled as a clincher GP "5000", same as the tires I run on my clincher HED's, so of course it wont work on a Tubeless Hookless rim. Why did you expect it to? From all my research lately, the current GP 5000 TR does work with hookless rims without issues.

So I got into cycling about a year ago. I bough a second hand aluminum ultegra road bike, really happy with it ! It's on DT swiss aluminium wheels, good enough for the kind of riding I do. However, I have found that I really enjoy some light off-road, light gravel riding. My frame can accomodate 32mm tyres so that's perfect. So I'm torn between either getting a new wheelset, like the zip 303s for my road use, and put a set of 32mm gravel tyres on the old rims for gravel riding. Or just saving up for a cheap gravelbike. What would you do ?

If the wheel says that the max presure is let's say 65 PSI but the tire says 85 PSI to 125 PSI, what is the right specification to follow? (I believe the 303s max pressure is 65 or 70 PSI). Also, If i want to run 25mm tires on those wheels and per the weight chart in the zipp website i am supposed to inflate the tires 65/67, does the bike will feel like too "plush"? Those are the concerns that are making me hesitant to buy those wheels. Thank you so much for your time.
@Mapdec
@Mapdec 4 жыл бұрын
It’s a very good question! From a professional point of view, we would seek another tyre that fit the specifications. This is because if you ever had a bad accident and sought compensation these details would be investigated and anything being used out of specification would fall under negligence law. So my answer, seek an alternative tyre that suits the pressure and size recommendations of the wheel.
@yannickmayer6804
@yannickmayer6804 4 жыл бұрын
If it feels too plush for you at maximum allowed tire pressure, just go up in tire width and pump it at max pressure, it will feel firmer then. But as a side note: Try to get used to the plush feeling, there are more benefits from low tire pressure than you might think :)

When there's 2 possibilities ALWAYS follow the lower. For example you have a car, on the tyre there's max speed 100km/h on the wheel max speed 150km/h you don't go more than 100km/h. For the wheel it's the same, 5bar max for wheel and 6bar mini for tyre, if you put 6bar you are ok with the tyre but you will cause dammage on the wheel who support the tyre so alway following the smallest instruction. The wheels is for tubeless and 5bar maximum because they are without hook it's the rule of ETRTO for TUBELESS without hook not more than 5bar. I think if a brand like zipp (sram group) put on the market this wheel, they no with 28mm tyre at 5bar it's ok for all riders. I am 85kg fort 1m89 using carbon wheels with hook of an italian Brand, the technical manual say "6,3 bar maximum with tubeless tyre" i ride using 5/5.5 bar with 700x28c tubeless tyre it's perfect
