Sounds like your classroom is finally sliding out of the dreaded winter behavior zone. November-February is literally the hardest time to teach! I hope my kids soon get out of the funk because I literally want to pull my hair out by the end of the day. This gives me hope behavior will start to turn around soon. Happy you had what seems like a great, productive week!

Congratulations Michelle on the 10,000 subscribers, I am so happy for you! You are my absolute favorite teacher on KZfaq! You inspire me every week, and i look forward to your videos on the weekends. So, Im sure you know the book 'Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse' by Kevin Henkes....if you dont it is an ABSOLUTE must read, their is a part in the book where she writes a mean letter to her teacher, because he took her purple plastic purse for disturbing the class. Then she writes him a nice letter to apologize...anyway the letter your student wrote you reminds me so much of that book, and the writing on his letter is so similar to the one in the story. You will have to take time to read it to your class, its great! Hope you have a relaxing weekend!!!!

I’m four years late but if anyone is watching this please remember that it’s okay for kids to cry when they’re upset. Kids aren’t great at self regulation. And second graders don’t always have a handle on their emotions. It made me really sad when she said she doesn’t have sympathy for kids who are acting out & crying.

How often do you have counseling? I am a former teacher training to be a school counselor. We never had Counseling back when I was teaching. I do miss the interactions and how funny the kids can be. I once asked one of my nursery schoolers, 2 years old, what a duck says and he replied "AFLAC". Awesome. 😂

I am currently in college studying to be a teacher and just found your channel not too long ago and I absolutely LOVE it! I feel like I am learning so many helpful things for when I get my own classroom. :) Do you think you could do a video all about your fitness/exercise routine? I find it super inspiring that you have such busy and hectic days but pretty much always manage to get in a gym session. And I am also passionate about fitness and health so hearing about how you balance life with fitness would be super helpful for the days when I am a busy teacher like you. haha Keep up the good work! :)

I hope it helped set your weekend on the right path to be relaxing and refreshing! Too funny you mentioned ads. When teaching 2nd grade in Camden we were learning about "Verbs." I Googled a video for Verbs and an ad for Fifty Shades of Grey pops up. I was bew to the projector system linked to the laptop and the students asked what was going on because the girl was moaning. NOT the "its what you 'do'" message I was trying to convey at the Catholic School.

Hadn't finished watching before I commented earlier. I had to comment again after the candy bar. One year I had cupcakes that had been "munched." I kept wondering why the chess pieces kept being knocked down off the lower shelves. Late, after the students left, I did some checking. I screamed like a fool! There was a possum that ran out from under the shelves! He was HUGE!!! I'm not kidding. He had to be 2 1/2 feet long. It ran around then played possum. I was so glad I was "buddies" with the custodian. I called him on his cell and he was kind enough to come and help. Congratulations on your 10,000, I'm sure you'll double it before you know it! :)

I hear you on choosing chaperones for field trips. After teaching for so long, I've learned it takes all kinds. This year we can only take one on our museum trip. I chose the parent who knows my kids best and coordinates all our parties. She's also pretty structured so I won't have to worry about half the class. If parents won't let their kids go because they can't, that's quite sad. BTW- I had no idea about the DD app! I don't drink coffee much, but it will be fun to use on a coffee day.
@PocketfulofPrimary
@PocketfulofPrimary 7 жыл бұрын
I totally agree! I feel like keeping your child home from the field trip just because you couldn't chaperone is not fair to the child and it pressures the teacher to choose you just so that child can go. Ugh! But in the end, I know it all works out. I just found the DD app recently but it is life changing!

I am curious how you differentiate. Most people I talk to about differentiation are really referring to special education accommodations. How do you differentiate, besides leveled readers in your reading groups? I would also love for you to make a video about all the different sites, apps, and technologies you use for and with your students. I have seen a few scattered throughout some of your videos, but I would love for them to all be in one location to refer back to easily. You both inspire and intimidate me all at once.
@PocketfulofPrimary
@PocketfulofPrimary 7 жыл бұрын
I can definitely make a video all about different websites and apps! That's a great idea! Differentiation is super simple... in math, it can be as simple as having some kids use extra manipulatives or tools to solve the problems. It isn't as scary as people make it seem! I differentiate spelling with 3 different lists (one of them is just a shorter version of the easier list), I sometimes differentiate math sometimes with different leveled task cards (my stronger math students will have more difficult problems), and reading is obviously differentiated through small group guided reading. You can differentiate writing by requiring different amounts of sentences for different groups or providing some students with sentence starters. It really doesn't take a lot of extra time or effort :) I'm so happy I could inspire you... I'm definitely not intimidating though, ha!

How do you have time to learn how to do what you showed about how to save the KZfaq ad free videos and do what you did to make the icon in Symbaloo while teaching full time, vlogging, making stuff for tpt, taking care of yourself, etc.? I struggle to get time and energy to do the very basic stuff for school and am always up too late and tired which then leads to me getting sick. How do you know what to do and when? Everything I do seems to take me such a long time. Thank you for any suggestions/advice. P.S. I have been teaching for over 25 years.

No problem! People use it mainly for the flipped classroom method. In my practicum experiences and now student teaching, none have done flipped classroom; however, like I said, I use it for showing and storing videos. I like it because I can add questions at certain points. When it gets to that point, the question shows up. It helps me remind myself what I wanted to ask; short memory! Haha. Plus no worries of ads.

I cracked up at the green (orange*) paper moment! Teacher brain is too real! Thanks again for all your vlogs, they're a lifesaver for pre-service teachers like me trying to get a glimpse into what our daily routines might look like :)

I didn't notice it until I was editing and I was like "WTH Michelle? Why did you say that paper was green?" 😂 So embarrassing but teacher brain for real!

It's not fun at all! Advil and other over the counter medicines don't usually help me at all but thankfully this time it helped enough to at least let me survive through the day!

Michelle do you try to drink that whole gallon of water everyday? If I drank that much I'd be in the bathroom all day. Not too much teaching happening from there. Lolol!!
@PocketfulofPrimary
@PocketfulofPrimary 7 жыл бұрын
Lol... yes I do! I typically don't drink any in the morning because I don't have planning time in the morning (except on A days). I start drinking it at lunch because I can usually make it from then until my afternoon special. But after school I use the bathroom like 809523809432 times 😂
