Michelle, I love watching your videos but I've noticed a common denominator in them all sickness or tired... Coming from a mom and a teacher, I just want say "you need rest". You are working yourself to exhaustion. Go to bedat a decent hour, I'm in bed by 10 every night. Everything else that you "have" to do can wait because without rest, you can't perform your best"!

Primary Procedures I thought it was me. I worry about her not resting well. I will come back to haunt her later. Take it from me. To each is own. But I agree. Yet if you give constructive advice, it's misconstrued.

Send home keys to parents on review packets. Then you only work the problems once. You can also put details about what you are looking for to the parents. They will love it! And you really only have to handwrite it on the same worksheet you send home with the kids. Then send it home before the test (after you have done a quick check for completion of the review packet).

Margaret Lewis - I don't think the people are "opinionated" but more interested in being helpful and supportive by helping her be the best teacher she can be - as we learn from her and vice versa. I think its fair to say that we all want her to be successful and truly enjoy all the videos......anyone else agree?

Just a suggestion: you could drop the lowest grade at the end of the quarter and maybe that would take away the missing work piece. You would just drop that zero instead of hunting the child down to complete work. Congrats on finishing your first quarter! You’re awesome!
@PocketfulofPrimary
@PocketfulofPrimary 6 жыл бұрын
Holly Allen Unfortunately some students have MANY missing assignments so dropping their lowest grade wouldn’t help. Most students are missing work from extra curricular activities that they leave class for so they miss a lot of assignments and don’t always do it on their own time and turn it in.
@jenniferbrakeville7430
@jenniferbrakeville7430 6 жыл бұрын
Just an idea but I check for missing work when I go through my turn in basket daily. Then I immediately make a small pink slip that I have in a pocket with each kids name on it. The pink slip has the date and the missing assignment. The kids can look at the slip to see what assignment they need to complete and turn in. They can't remove the pink slip until they are finished with the assignment. When they complete it, I attach the pink slip to their work so I know to go back and e enter that grade. Parents can also see if they are turning in late work often. Kids who still have outstanding pink slips miss Friday afternoon activity to get work done. It's a huge incentive to turn in their work.

If you’re having trouble remembering all the events you need to go to throughout the week, I really suggest using Google calendar! I am an undergraduate college student who also works so that means I’m very busy and without Google calendar I definitely could not survive! If you have an iPhone, your Google calendar will sync with your phone that way you get reminders on your phone and also on your calendar if it’s open on your computer. Super helpful!

First of all....so many of us are in the same boat! I have over 11 years of teaching experience and this is my very first year in my own classroom teaching 1st grade since I went back to school. I feel like I have just been treading water. While it totally sucks your videos make me feel so much better....misery loves company I guess. It just really helps me to realize that there are so many of us in the same boat. Also, save yourself the time and get the app Stick Pick on your phone. Hi I’m a new subscriber and I love your videos I’ve been waiting all week for your video! I’m an early childhood education pre-K-4 major and next year is my last year. Watching your videos makes me even more excited to graduate and have my own classroom! You’re such a great teacher and I just wanted to say that your kids will totally remember you as one of their favorites! Btw have you heard of the App teacherkit? I had to do a review of an app for one of my classes and I came across this app. I will recommend this app to you because it will help you with grading, your 3 class sections, attendance, lesson plans, and it even has a randomizer which helps you pick students to participate. This video reminded me of the app because the randomizer goes through all the students before repeating them so everyone gets a turn like your popsicle idea!

Missing/late Work is always a struggle...I collect everything in number order and I have a little strip similar to your checklist but I just clip it to the front of my to be graded stack. Then once the papers are in my grade book I grab my missing assignment slips with student numbers highlighted and keep them in my missing/late Work file folder on my desk. My grade book system prints out missing assignments on the progress report. I tell my students they need to come to me to get the extra copies but usually I find it in their binder.

I remember in elementary school my 4th grade teacher used to let a student or two stay in from recess and/or lunch and grade papers. Sounds really not fun but I remember so many kids would like argue to get a spot 😂 that could help with your pile of grading!

For grades, our district uses a web-based program called FOCUS. The program allows a teacher to run a missing grades report. This is so helpful when entering grades for progress reports and report cards.

I agree wet hair does not make you sick. I come into school many, many days with damp hair because mine is so thick it would take and hour to dry it! We also had to work Veterans day. My husband, son, and daughter were all off work that day. That's ok though. I still have summers off. ;-) Lastly, you are not weird because you have breakfast for dinner. We also do that from time to time, so you're normal. Have a great week. Looking forward to the next video!

My family loves to have breakfast for dinner! And just something to make you laugh...I was doing a few things while watching this vlog and I glanced up when you had all of the popsicle sticks lined up on the table. My very first thought was pregnancy tests. Then I laughed because who would actually take that many. Haha...I need some rest.

Suggestion: correct/go over homework in class as you normally do. Then take a picture of each of your pages with the answers and email/post to parents using Dojo or whatever system you use. Then whichever parents want the answers have it and you get to keep your teacher sanity! WIN-WIN!

In Norway kids dont get school work graded until 8th grade. Before that when they have test they only get points and not on all that is handed in.
