The gear they are given is not just used for training and is not handed back after they complete the course. Britain supplies every Ukrainian we train with a full kit to take with them, right down to first aid kits and winter thermal gear. The AKs were sourced by the MOD from all over Europe, they bought several different models specifically for this training. I can hear the weapons training from my office at ranges just down the road. There are Canadian and Swedish trainers here on the south coast.

I was not personally directly involved in Op Interflex and Op Orbital, which preceded it, but the people I worked with who were directly involved all spoke very, very highly of the Ukrainians. Op Orbital involved the Ukrainian regular military and they were already hardened, but, as the video you posted shows well, Interflex was more comprised of former civvies, but they were already battle hardened. The words I heard people say of them were that they were like sponges, they soaked everything up, they were bright, clever people who were very purposeful in their approach and therefore more like training military in mindset. I'm also aware of the contact that has been maintained and the losses that are felt here in the UK. you may well have seen our lads saluting them as they left - the respect is of the highest.

I was personally involved in the preparation of the Infantry elements featured in the documentary. Training too place in multiple locations throughout England, It was a multinational training each location had A British Regt paired with either Danish, Swedish, Canadians, Finnish etc. I was part of Battlefield Medical Trauma training, of which none of this training was covered in the film, probably due the visceral effect it may have on viewers. We 'Actor's' mostly amputees were made up with prosthetics, fake blood, destroyed clothing were placed in trench systems, tree lines for FIWAF and buildings for FIBUA / OBUA. The Ukrainians were trained and tested in care under fire, casualty extraction methods, full CAS body checks, signs and symptoms and treatment. This included the treatment of OPFOR to enable Intel gathering. They were strong committed and passionate about getting back to defend their country.

UK was the first to start training of the Ukraine forces but I believe they soon found out that British forces did not have enough trainers. So the MOD invited other countries to send trainers to UK to help. I believe Finland, Netherlands, Australia, Canada and New Zealand were amongst the initial wave, U.S Spain and other nations joined.I believe UK has trained around 75,000 Ukrainians to date. Which is more vital than weapons as its the guts and knowledge make a weapon deadly. These trained go back to Ukraine to fight on the frontline or train other Ukrainians using what they learned in UK.

22:25 they're junior leaders, so corporals. They lead a section, I'm pretty sure Americans call it a squad, a section is 8 men, the US is 10 men. The majority possibly all of the training the British Army has conducted in the UK has been for corporals, sergeants and junior officers. I believe all the basic training that we've been doing for the Ukrainian recruits is taking place in Eastern European countries. This must have been filmed over a year ago for the figure to only be 30k trained so far as if I remember right it was the beginning of last year that something like 30k Ukrainians were coming over at the same time for training. They're being trained all over the UK, the British Army has to book ranges and training areas further in advance than normal due to the Ukrainian training. When the Challenger 2 crews were going through their training, the British tank regiments were having training cancelled last minute for the Ukrainians to use training areas and facilities. The British soldiers could even be on exercise on a training area that was booked and part way through be told they could no longer use certain areas as it was now being used for the Ukrainians. It really is a massive effort being put in by the British Army, and they are giving the Ukrainians priority as they should.

I don’t know about the rest of you out there but I am guilty of making the mistake of thinking the days of trench warfare were behind us. As shocking and awful as Putins invasion of Ukraine is, it has also been interesting to see the evolution of warfare in some areas and yet not in others. No matter how sexy kit gets, it still comes down to boots on the ground. My heart goes out to the bravery of the Ukrainian people and it must be truly humbling for those on Interflex to be able to do something to help.

There is a big difference between how Ukrainians are starting off then British, this is because the Ukrainians have been through a lot already, normally they would be dropped on screaming and shouting with a real nasty attitude and fixed Bayonets into sandbags with blood patches for reality. However they are being taught by the best. You will be able to see through their attitude and body language.

That weapon system is the AR-M9F. It was brought in so you could have an AK style platfrom that uses the 5.56 round and also blanks without modification, so the British don't have to deal with multiple caliber ammo and the ukrainians can train on a familiar platform throughout. When this operation started the brits had to gather up alm different old AK variants laying around (russian, chinese, czech, you name it...), because they just didn't have too may of them. This posed a problem because of the different models and such, so you couldn't fire blanks with them due to the lack of blank firing adapters, o they had to train the ukrainians on the AK style platform, but use the SA80 for blank fire training, so you might see how that was a logistical nightmare.

My guess is that they probably got the AKs from either Poland or Bulgaria or possibly both you can tell that those AKs are chambered for 5.56 by looking at the mags.

If you are able try and access the BBC Comedy Bluestone 4-2. Extremely funny and of its time - probably not something to review more for personal watching all I know is I enjoyed it and every Brit who served in Afghan said its the nearest thing they have seen to their time on deployment

It'd be really cool if you reacted to the last two new videos by the 3rd Assault Bridge you had reacted before. One of these videos, particularly "experience from Bahkmut" is also about training and how they combine NATO experience and our own. The second video was uploaded yesterday, and includes a battle in a village.

Isn’t it odd how despite the mobility of WW2 and the predicted mobility of combat from conflicts after, we Brits still practice trench warfare, (something I believe the Falklands showed us) is still very much needed also it’s a bloody great way to stop a highly less well trained army in its tracks.
