As much as I’ve played and watched this game, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Monty or Blooper’s close plays before. I’ve also never once used clamber outside of the story missions that require it.

Nice guide and explanation! Personally, I think you got "Quick Throw" ranked way too high for the reason you mentioned: nobody with the ability has a good arm. So it's completely useless when a stronger arm always gets the ball to the base much quicker than a "quick throw," and we have _tons_ of characters with good arms. I'd put it between "Clamber" and "Super Jump" since the latter leads to more outs on the corner bases at least. Occasionally catching a foul ball that would be _just_ out of reach is better imo.

Great video! Another note about close play abilities is they can actually be divided into passive and active close play abilities. Active close play abilities knock the ball out of the glove and can usually allow other runners the chance to advance (spin attack, enlarge, angry dive) and passive close plays just allow the runner to avoid the tag (teleport, burrow, ink dive)

One thing that was glossed over about Quick Throw is that it allows for more consistent Buddy Throws. Sometimes, (depending on mashing/shaking your wii remote to throw the ball) even when you attack the ball into a teammate, it still doesn't work. Quick throw makes it far more consistent since the window for the Buddy Throw is larger. I realized this when I would run a full Mii Team with Peach as my Captain.

I had no idea what the close play abilities actually DID, so I was super surprised to not see them at the bottom of the tier list. I thought they were basically just cosmetic!

Great review, Becket! I've never seen all the Close Play abilities. I had no idea that some characters even had unique animations to them! Yeah, _Clamber_ is rendered useless with the introduction of _Buddy Jump_ in Sluggers. _Super Dive_ is definitely a top-tier ability, though! Did Sluggers get rid of _Super Catch_ from Mario Superstar Baseball? That was one of the best abilities from Superstar and arguably made Peach one of the best characters in that game!

I remember once seeing Diddy do Clamber, Blooper ink, Monty burrow, but its very rare. Haven't seen these in years tbh. Its nice to see that someone actually has anwsered my childhood questions.😹

Ayy let's go I'm early btw, someone has to be going home if you want to activate laser beam but I could totally be wrong, also super jump can be very useful in robbing homers because some characters hit it so high sometimes you need super jump to rob it

I mean the laser beam only works when throwing home so. That’s the only way to activate it.

Thats... not how Quick Throw works. Quick Throw removes the catching animation when you're thrown the ball from another player (either as a cutoff or when thrown a double play ball). If you catch a ball normally, Quick Throw doesn't help you with your release at all. Its funny you mention using Quick Throw in the outfield since that's literally the only position Quick Throw can't trigger.
