if you play with the numchuck, fast players like Monty and the babies actually have some value because they can reliably steal, but without it they are worthless

Dry Bones in C is insane. I hit homeruns with him at least 50% of his hits

I laughed at Yoshi being anywhere but S. Yoshi is clearly the best character in the game being the fastest tied with his pink variant while also having tongue catch and one of if not the best star swings in the game with the only one that's most likely better being DK

I feel like you’re underrating Toadsworth. Yes, he’s not a great fielder or hitter, but used properly he can be great. One of my favorite strategies is to make Toadsworth and Petey Piranha my battery and just randomly switch them to completely throw off my opponent’s timing.

I knew a more about this game than I thought as a kids. My teams were basically B-tier and up, I would always have Kritters, Hammer Bros, Magikoopas and Yoshis for easy fielding with a few heavy hitter, obviously I still didn’t understand the chemistry system.

I’d say this list is solid. I personally do really well with Piantas so I would move them to A tier, and other than that, I think Petey is the best player. However, I agree with the rest

Bro Dark Dry Bones is at least A Tier. Literally was always a homerun when he stepped up

Fun fact: I was stuck on the mission where you have one inning to beat Bowser Jr when he has a 2-0 advantage. I lost ten times because the AI was psychic and always stopped the ball. But just as I wanted to give up, the Blue Kritter hit a home run with all three bases loaded and won the whole game. I have dubbed this savior Kobalt the Kritter.

Peach's star hit doesn't get you a hit if you hit it to a female player in the infield (they are unaffected.) Took a lot of playing to understand why that would happen.

14:09 The 3 bros are honestly different enough that they should be mentioned separately. Hammer bro is the balanced one, but his bat relies much more on landing the end of the hammer. Sweet spot sour spot reliant batters can lack consistency, especially vs pitchers with high control. Think characters like King K Rool, Toadsworth, etc. While every bat has a sweet spot, some are much more reliable to land than others. Fire Bro has the most power of the 3, although is weaker in other areas. He uses a standard bat, and is the most consistent batter of the three. Uses a more standard bat. Although getting home runs so consistently is a double edged sword, as buddy catches can catch home run balls. So many home runs can end up being many easy outs vs a skilled fielder. Boomerang Bro used the rang as his bat, but whats noteworthy is that he hits the ball in a curve. While this results on more foul balls than average, it can also make it trickier to catch with both a curve and high speed. Most of the time colors are just slight stat variations, but these three have more to them. I do not think just mentioning solely hammer bro is reliable.

Blooper makes a really good reliever cuz his changeup can throw people off, but never use it more than a few times. Just one of those niche characters you could pair with a fast pitcher like Bowser

Tip: Pow Balls can actually stun floaters. You need to directly bonk them on the head with the pow ball. Hard to aim, unless it's a fly out. This is also useful in countering infield fly outs or a bunt cheese since a direct pow ball bonk doesn't explode. So, your runners won't be affected. Hopefully this helps you!

This game brings back so many memories.. My dad got it for me as a gift from his trip to NYC. He was a P.E. teacher and his favorite sport was softball. I was never into sports myself but this game was so much fun, i loved the HUGE roster of characters that usually don't get to be playable and im just so happy that the game hasn't died yet.

Finally I've been reccomended a Mario Super Sluggers video and even better luck its the apparent fanclub so I know there's more I can watch other then this. The algorithm has truly blessed me.

I love this game so much. Easily my favorite Wii game, and as someone who's played this game for 8 years, I think every character is fun to play as. If you just learn each character's assets and flaws, they can all be good and valuable assets to your team. And I've gotten a home run with ALL of them at least once. On one last note, when are we getting Mario Baseball for Nintendo Switch?

I’d put Yoshi in Low A, sure his hitting isn’t that great, but he’s versatile in any position and his pitching is actually quite underrated.

Dude me and my cuz were literally fighting over who gets toad because literally every single time he got put on the base he hit a dinger, I’m not disagreeing with your choice but I think they might of buffed him up a bit

Toadsworth is excellent as like a real life “closer” role where he comes in and pitches the last inning if you’re ahead. Good luck as the opponent trying to figure that out when the pressure is at its highest. Shouldn’t get tired so long as the inning doesn’t go insanely long

Just wanna say, as of last year i grabbed an HDMI cord for my gamecube and even playing with bots, having a TIME with Mario Superstar Baseball. Stumbled upon your channel and I love the commentary and takes you guys have on both games. I never got a chance to play super sluggers but I'm super temtped to wanna get it on wii.

I usually always played with peach and daisy so that's interesting. I also remember it was really satisfying to use suction catch as birdo or super dive as daisy. I havent played that game in forever lol but I remember that pitching as peach was so fun.

ok so i had no idea this game had any sort of community around it and the fact that it does makes me so dang happy! this game was one of my favorites as a kid and i remember playing with my brother all the time! also back in high school me and some friends would ramdomly pop this disc in the wii and play some games.

My friend and I always used King K as pitcher because of how fast he throws, so he never had to deal with fielding. He's particular evil against another player where you can just spam pitches and give them no time to react

I mostly keep Monty Mole around for a mid outfielder; his decent speed allows him to reach those he has chemistry with so they can do a super jump.

Probably the most atmospheric sports game of all time, especially with the story mode

My pitching rotation always uses Toadsworth, because I open up with around 1-3 innings of Toadsworth followed by 4-5 innings of Mario to throw them off with the speed change, and then another slow pitcher like Magikoopa to finish.

I remember a triple play I got with Bowser Jr. I had him at short stop. Caught the ball with a dive catch, which has a roll that allowed me to tag the runner head back to second. Then threw back to first.

4:45 If you use a star power on bloopers change up pitch its actually pretty great. Goes up so high you can't even see the ball and have to rely on its shadow.

This is one of the few games that I'm actually good at, my friend always go full captains against my messy team of heavy hitters and babies, and I still beat him 90% of the time lol. Piantas and Hammer Bro are literally gods at this game, almost guarenteed home runs

Friends and I are huge fans of this game, working on learning how to use parsec over dolphin netplay for a better non-local experience. Pretty solid tier list, Yoshi is such an outstanding fielder and his star always guarantees at least a single I always thought of as S, but upon second thought, his pitching is kinda buns. Considering he can always get a hit with star and he's the best fielder in the game, maybe A for me but I can see top of B. My friend ALWAYS plays peach AND baby peach and it's so infuriating to deal with the pitches, and peach's star makes me wanna rip my eyes out all the time. How can Yoshi be infatuated with peach, or some of the bowser minions?! So annoying. And Petey FOREVER absolute goat

Peach's pitching is excellent, but I feel like my opponent's infield manages to catch its star move at least 33% of the time - and I've never seen a triple from it and doubles are not as common as this video suggests.

This was the only Mario sports game I played. Got it for 10 dollars, best 10 dollars I've spent. Also, Petey Piranha is my favorite Mario enemy and I always pick him in any game where I have the chance. Nice to see they did my boy justice here.
