After seeing how much of a massive transformation you achieved it gave me the clearest realization that I could not just lift, but "look like I lift" too. Thank you Mark Bell for your candid attitude and kick ass advise for lifting and dieting that has carried into my life as well. You are a big inspiration to me. Btw- this is the most solid video on keto that I have ever come across. I'm approaching the 2 week mark on the diet and I was getting really worried about whether I should carb-up or not this Sunday and this cleared all that up. Thanks again.

Great video Mr. Bell. Good to see how you didn't bash any type of diet because like you mentioned, to each his own. Different diet styles for different people. Good S***T!!! BTW, love the sling shot product. I'm a bodybuilder in Miami looking to do a meet next year and am really liking how the sling shot is helping my progress. If you're Fat, addicted to Carbs, Insulin Resistant, and or Family History of Diabetes, then definitely recommend Keto as a tool to help transform. I did a near Keto diet (50 -100 gm per day of carbs) coupled with intermittent fasting for a period of about 8-9 months and managed to shed about 40 lbs (From 230 down to 188). Keto helps you achieve calorie deficits and restore insulin sensitivity without much thought and planning in your diet, just like Mark pointed out. I then worked my way back up to 200 lbs where I have been maintaining for the past 3 years on a simple low carb diet (roughly 100 grams per day). However, as of late I began more body building and aesthetics type training switching emphasis from strength to hypertrophy (also because my joints are aging) and I have found that on training days 200 grams of carbs keeps my muscular glycogen at the ready and also keeps my muscle appearing more full (aka "swole") than when I was very low carb which drained their appearance quite a bit. My strength on keto wasn't too impacted. Lastly, I found that 30min cardio following my training has helped quite a bit to keep me lean, since most of your glycogen stores get depleted during the anaerobic weight training (obviously depending on how hard and long you train) when you do the cardio afterwards, your body is more apt to start up the aerobic oxidation of your fat (so long as you keep the intensity low to moderate, i.e. treadmill, stationary bike, or elliptical). I think once you achieve about 15% body fat composition, then bringing carbs back up for the purpose of anabolic training is actually a good idea (as he pointed out with Silent Mike) as this is what your body prefers and the carbohydrates (as their name implies) attract the water which keeps you full looking. Though you could live in keto, I would simply recommend it as a tool to get you where you want to go, then get back to carbs but with a better balance between fat and protein avoiding surplus dieting to maintain a sculpted look. This was my experience. Hopes this helps someone.

Hi Mark, I had to look up your numbers to make sure you didn't make a mistake. Was your max deadlift a genuine weak lift for you or was it due to injury? Did you work harder to bring that lift up as opposed to your squat and bench where more progress would have been difficult due to huge numbers already?

Carbs kill my stomach and keep me bloated. It's crazy the one weights wing if I have a cheat day from keto/carnivore. My weight only fluctuates 1 to 2 pounds on diet. If I have a carb up day it will be 5 to 7 pounds.

Dont getting rid of the carbs make you extremely tired? I did that years ago, like NO CARBS and always got dizzy n shit at the gym.
@Saeraen9 жыл бұрын
I do a lot of running and HIIT workouts, without consuming carbs in preparation for those I will not be able to preform at 100% intensity, I will feel weak and light headed and probably fail my goal for the day. On the flip side, I never really feel as though I need to prepare in the same manner for lifting, as I can eat lunch and 5 hours later lift without having consumed anything since that lunch. So, I also advocate not needing carbs before lifting. You say you eat a lot of sushi? what do you substitute the rice with?

Not sure if you were just tired from being between sets but what's your cardio? I'm hoping you were just heavy breathing from between set other than just being winded from talking. Total respect for what you do man and would love to be able to lift like you so don't think this is a shot at you.

I tried low carb before but I an never get enough calories. Do the calories matter if I am getting enough protein?
@Sal_McCoy9 жыл бұрын
You should aim to get most calories from fats (healthy oils:coconut,olive,fish). One tablespoon has ~ 200calories, so it should be easier to hit high calories on high fat, mod protein than high carbs and protein. A good thing to try is have lettuce or spinach with your meals with a few tablespoons of oil. Low carbs, some fibre and makes the oil more palatable.

Okay, I gotta ask...when you made bigger stronger faster, you said you were using steroids. Your bench seems to have gone down massively, from 900 down to 500 or so...a change in calorie intake makes the difference for sure, just wondering if you still 'partake' of recreational testosterone...?
@brandonmitzel97938 жыл бұрын
Little late but the answer is that he went from equipped lifting to raw so that explains the massive weight difference in his bench
@davidsirmons8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, as a personal trainer, my question was less about the bench numbers and more about the overall muscle retention he still seems to have, despite the claim of not using test.
