I’m actually a bit smitten by this one. I really appreciate the versatility of the alternate pot stand and simmer cap. I like it! Thank you for sharing it Mark.

I agree Mark, it's a great Pierce of kit, especially with the simmer ring. I've found it will use the fuel very efficiently and as you say if you want to boil water fast this thing can really light up, i would say almost as quick as a gas stove. Cheers from Oz

Nice looking stove. I'm a user of alcohol stoves for all cooking and boiling water. I think about solid hexi blocks from my army days, which I had no problems with cooking anything. Small stoves like the one on the show are always great.

When one checks out the spec sheet the diameter is 75 for both but the Trangia includes the flange so it sits in the windshield. Seems a missed opportunity, a few mm in diameter reduction and it would fit anything designed to accommodate a Trangia burner. I guess goshawk know you will need to purchase one of their windshield/pot supports but I bet they would sell a lot more if it fitted gear designed to accommodate Trangia burners.

I agree. They do have a number of design much closer to the Trangia. Thanks for commenting

That’s a nice little stove! In a side note: for measuring alcohol, I use the small, clear plastic measuring cup that came with my son’s liquid medicine. It fits right into the hole of my Trangia & the top screws on, too!

It is generally a good idea to solder the seam of the trangia for it to be liquid tight, as some of them do leak around the underside of the collar. Downside with the new cooking setup for the goshawk is it loses any wind protection it had from the other stand. I agree on the fold out handle, but I think a simple handle spring and notches lock when extended would be simpler vs butterfly handles. It is a nice stove. Cheers for the review.

Nice demonstration, Mark! I don't really have any need for a burner designed for a larger pot - while I have a couple of larger pots, I don't normally carry them and don't normally use them, I'm just heating water for tea or for heating up a freeze-dried type meal, so my Trangia works well for me. But it's nice to have options laid out, and that accessory kit looks like it would make this a much more versatile setup.

Thanks Mark. My DIY cat can stove with 90% isopropyl alcohol works great and is much cheaper than the goshawk! Not as sophisticated though. Mostly use it to make a brew up. But I love your videos!

I do like the look of the Goshawk products but already have to many stoves. I wonder how this one would compare to either a Toaks or Lixada syphon stove, the Lixada would probably be the better alternate due to it’s larger size and fuel capacity. The top of a soup can makes a good snuffer for either the Lixada or Toaks and lets you recover leftover fuel. Doesn’t cost anything either.

This is almost twice the size of the Toaks and Lixada. More of a mass heater. Thanks for commenting

Your boil time would be a lot faster with an aluminum or titanium pot, as the metal is thinner and the heat transfer is better.

Hello Mark. I've been interested in Goshawk products and I do appreciate your reviews of their products, but I haven't been persuaded as of yet to pay the premium for them. They are not inexpensive and shipping is also expensive. My DIY burners and stoves work well and as far as I can see, will do fine. Thank you for the video. I enjoy watching your work. Blessings, David.

G'day Mark, I've no experience to speak of with alcohol jobs, since I've always been concerned about leakage and fair to say, since they're so quiet, its harder to tell at a glance if the thing is still going. I do like the look of this one though, because; A. you dont carry fuel in it. and B. more grunt for food use However is does mean any un-used fuel needs to go back in the, (possibly narrow necked), bottle and it does go through the stuff quite quickly. At a minimum I need to be able to do a well done lump of T-bone and veg, (on stainless cookware). If that's possible, I know i can do anything else I'm likely to carry, like rice and pasta dishes from scratch ..... say 10 - 15 mins worth. So, I assume you can refill these things mid cook, without any safety issues ? Cheers Duke

There can be an issue with refilling these or any alcohol stove mid meal. First you have to put the stove out and let it cool a bit before putting new alcohol in. Otherwise, it could boil up and combust. Thanks for commenting Duke

I often have multiple alcohol stoves, the trangia, lixada siphon with snuffer & simmer mods, and Evernew copycat which can simmer if u put ur cup/pot directly on the stove using the 2nd ring of jets & a windscreen, but 4oz is alot and with the ERA's simmer ring u could probably cook as needed on it & have an extended burn time. With the Lixada siphon simmer mod, I get an extended burn on one oz of methyl hydrate on 3 cups of water in my 900ml pot, good for homemade miso soup 👍
