We go over the parts and abilities of the i2 ‪@Marsbladeofficial‬ Ice holder. These kits include a 14, 17, 20, 23 and 26 foot radius bar that can be inserted in the heel to alter the performance of the blade contour.

Just went out for my first skate using the I2 with DLC blades. The default was 23 ft, and I noticed a big difference vs standard holders. Tomorrow I'll try the 20 ft. You can also pick out the rocker inserts using the tip of the blade (as illustrated in the instruction booklet). Thanks for mentioning that the Junior A level players prefer 20 ft to 23 ft, it gives me an idea what those high calibre players are using.

How did the 20-foot feel? Im going to start off with the 20-foot.
@BWT599
@BWT599 Жыл бұрын
@@ndsports316 20 foot was pretty good and I went lower to see how extreme it could get. I started to notice that I had to adjust my cross overs slightly. I also sharpen my own skates using the sparx system so there is some experimental stuff I can do there. If you notice at the top of the blade at the toe, it's an interesting concave type shape of the blade. I haven't played any hard beer league games yet as my kids hockey season ended and we're in full on motocross season. I also got the Marsblade inlines but they don't feel anything like being on the ice, in fact my right boot hurts a ton even though I've baked the skated twice. I haven't really messed with the rocker on the inline skates to compare to the I2s.

@@BWT599 thanks for the input. I'll start with the 20 foot. I usually get 1/2 on the sparx, but I'll probably try these with like a 5/8 to start. My curret blades. I'm on a quad 0 profile. So I guess I'll need to have the shop do the 9 1/2 - 10 1/2 contour. I get that there really isn't a point in profiling these too aggressively it seems.

@@ndsports316 ah right on, you know what I'm talking about. Yea no need to profile the blades as the rockering fills this need. I was asked by my pro skate sharpener shop if I wanted to come back for contouring. They had installed the holder for me. I'm gonna stay with the 1/2 fire sharpening ring, not sure which level I'm gonna set yet, I've been on a 3 with the regular holder.

How do you change the profile of the blade instead of the standard contour? In other words, it ships with a contour in the steel. How do I change that? Won’t it move if a profile shim is attached while shaving the steel?!

So if I’m running a quad 0 should I get the same thing done to the blade that come or try standard and adjust accordingly or just go right to what I’ve been using and adjust with inserts

I have not, but have the R1/01 holders for roller and love them(I tore my bicep in Dec and haven’t been medically cleared to hit the ice yet), but Colin has them and we have done a lot of testing(videos will follow) of different contours with the various radius profile bar inserts. He is using a 9.5-10.5 dual radius contour with the 17’ bar.

Really intrigued with the Marsblade holders and good reviews about it. I currently have Quad profile on my Step Blacksteel, do you think there would be significant difference on performance? Thanks!

The quad you have isn’t a profile, it’s a contour. With a similar contour on the Marsblade blades, you would have better performance

@@ericbodkin2112 the steel quality is the same as what’s in the True Shift holders. Both the stainless and the DLC are the same(from the same manufacturer) so, identical quality. JRZ steel IS Step steel, so in my opinion better, but that’s not available in the i2 holder

@@bsharpottawa The Prosharp Quad is a profile. I've never heard of anybody getting their skates contoured... The Marsblade holder is effectively doing the same thing as a clap skate for speed skating. For the best performance, both for top speed and agility, you want to have the maximum amount of movement in the Marsblade rocker system which would be the 14 foot rocker radius insert. The larger the rocker radius insert, ie. 20-23 foot, the LESS advantage you get from the Marsblade holder. I presume they give you the larger rocker radius inserts to allow skaters experiencing the holder for the first time to get used to the rocking motion of the skates as they transition down to the 14 foot rocker radius insert.

@nicd5439

What’s the difference between a contour and profile? True shift steel comes stock 9.5/10.5. Is that a contour or profile? Seems like with the marsblade you would want the 14 mars insert for the agility/ancceleration. And say a 13’ or longer single profile for the glide and speed. Seems like a lot of possibilities. Do you know how much the marsblade holder and steel weigh?

Remove the blades, make sure they have them the right way, don’t profile them(contour if you want different than 11’) and have at it.

can a 272 fit onto a 263 skate. I have two pairs the marsblade is on the 272 boot but I want to but them on my new higher end boots that are 263 just based on how the sizes worked out. Would those work or do i need to get an entire new set?
@bsharpottawa
@bsharpottawa 10 ай бұрын
The 272 blade won’t fit in a 263 holder. Depending on the skate, the 272 holder would fit on it, it may over hand a bit depending.

What does DLC mean and what setup gives more stability off the go and around the corner?
@bsharpottawa

DLC is Diamond Like Coating aka super hard. It has better edge retention. We are finding most of our Jr./OHL/NHL guys testing them like the 9.5/10.5 contour setup(you don’t want to profile these) gives them the best results

question Joe. do you find bigger/taller guys lean towards one of the rockers? i'm 6 5, 220, 55 yrs old, lifetime skater, pretty good (always room for improvement, trying to learn mohawks...) and just seeking your input. not a tonne of info out there on these.

Sorry for the late response. We see most guys leaning 20/23’ rockers. I’ve got guys using the 14’ for Beer League, but then swapping that for a 26’ to coach in the same pair of skates. That’s the nice part about these. You can change it up

@@bsharpottawa i wonder why change? i've now had these on for a month and like them. can hang out longer and further on the edge. doesn't make me faster, doesn't make it any easier (that's a weird claim), i just like the feel. i will try the 14 tonight after using the 17 the rest of the time.

@@thecount1001 these blades aren’t profiled, they are contoured. So they have a 11’ neutral radius on them. The “profile” comes from the changeable bars. The reason for guys changing them is stability. Coaching is more standing around, so 26’ is more stable than the other bars.
@bsharpottawa

@@thecount1001 quads aren't profiles, they are contours, so as long as you have a competent tech, you could add a quad to the blades. FBV is just the hollow on the skate, so that wont effect anything
