Find out more about Marshall Amps sale, plans, new projects and more directly from Terry Marshall himself.
I visited Marshall Amps today (5th April 2023) along with Alan Bruce and had a short but great interview with Terry Marshall following the sale of the company in to Marshall Group - and Terry was kind enough to run through some history of Marshall, his position re the Marshall sale, some info about upcoming projects and even his memory of other musicians like Eric Clapton, Pete Townsend, Gary Moore and other info about the Marshall Group and how they perceive the employees and customers as 'Family'.
I found Terry to be a great (and very friendly) guy that is more than happy to discuss most things Marshall and I sincerely hope that everyone visiting my channel likes this short discussion between us and Terry. Thank you Terry for taking the time to chat with us - very appreciated.
This video is entirely financed and sponsored by me with my own money so it's important for you to subscribe and thumbs up, ring the bell and click ALL to see more of my videos. Please do SUBSCRIBE to give my channel a boost and thank you for watching - I hope the video is enjoyable and shows you things about Terry, and Marshall Amps here in 2023.

"It's a natural marriage" between Marshall and Zounds. They have worked together 13 years. On another note. Friend of mine and his girlfriend lived together, purchased home in common, among other things. Even raised a child together! After more than 20 years of this arrangement. They finally got married😊 6 months later, they divorced and no longer speak to each other😮

I knew a couple who did more or less the same thing, and suspect that getting married is actually a last-ditch attempt to save a failing relationship. In reality, it just gives one party more rights when things finally fall apart.

Tony, thank you for this! With the ST20 range out now, do you reckon they will expand the studio series with a JCM900 Studio next? Or a JVM20? Or something completely different?
@tonymckenziecom
@tonymckenziecom 11 ай бұрын
Hopefully not the JCM900. I am hoping that they bring back (believe it or not) the JCM2000 but in this format and without the problems. That amp contrary to many who only slagged it off because of reliability actually sounded really good recorded. Indeed I still have my updated version today. Thanks.

Wow. Your a lucky man Tony. Can't wait to see the new small 45 style amp. Will it be a "Lunchbox" style amp? And will it be 45 or 20ish watts? Maybe 30ish with some 5881's. I'm chomping at the bit already. Sounds as if there is some new stuff in the wings.

I actually think it can be a good move. The code series didn’t do so well and the mg series was getting stale. Hopefully they can bring some of that new technology that mooer, nux, line6, and ik are using and mix it with the Marshally goodness.

bit of useless info i went to a Marshall amp demonstration in Macclesfield in 1992 and still have my poster that was signed by jim himself who was there
@tonymckenziecom
@tonymckenziecom Жыл бұрын
That's not useless info... keep hold of it. As time moves on, that poster is 'stuck' literally in time and you will never forget that occasion - and you can't ever go back and ask for another. I often saw Jim Marshall at shows and always said hello, but as time moved on Jim slowed down and last time I saw him he was in a wheelchair, but he seemed to love being there even in that chair. Certainly a trooper holding up the flag for Marshall. And rightly so! Thanks for this post and for watching.

It’s not like they’ve been releasing great amps that would become future classics. The last new amp that is considered a classic is a JCM800 from the 80’s. Reissues don’t count. 6100 gets some kudo’s (used one for a bit in the 90’s) but would take an 800 or JMP with a pedal in a heartbeat over it. Then there was the huge price hike 20 years ago that has ruined buying new, U.K made Marshall in the U.S. for regular people. So maybe they once were the company this guy thinks it is but not for decades. Just keep those Bluetooth speakers and fridges coming Marshall.

@@Skoora Sad but true. Marshall seems to have forgotten what made them a ONCE great company and I could care less about all the other worthless crap they peddle. How about they go back to making amplifiers. Have no idea what this guy is talking about because this is not Marshall of today.
@Skoora
@Skoora Жыл бұрын
@@shane011471 It’s the same old “we’re a family” shit that gets peddled around when probably a whole bunch of people are about to get laid off. The people in long time power who are secure in either position or money have all the luxury in the world to was on about family and the folksiness of it all, but they’ll be totally disconnected from ground level employees when something has to “happen”. The family coat of arms in any corporation is a dollar bill (or pound note).

@@JC-kv1vn You know what I meant. Your own comment talking about a JVM 410 that came out over a decade and a half ago tells you everything you need to know about Marshall of today. If they were doing so well I can promise you that they would not now be owned by Zound Industries based out of Stockholm Sweden! Saying that all these amp builders made amps that sound like a Marshall? Sorry but not any Marshall in a long time. This is coming from someone that loves Marshall BUT they have seemed to have lost their way being more focused on becoming a "Lifestyle" brand and seem to have forgotten what made them in the first place.

The truth is that Marshall has relentlessly dived for every penny of profit they can squeeze out of any product they make, and at every turn have cheapened their products, to make them faster to produce, cheaper to build, and more profitable to sell, with little concern for quality, reliability, and serviceability. Today only a FEW of their products are durable enough to be worthy of taking on the road with hard working, gigging musicians. Today's Marshall is a pale shadow of the company that built my vintage 60s and 70s Marshalls in my collection. If I were shopping for new amps to fill a backline for a touring band today, without question I'm heading directly for the local Mesa/Boogie dealership. Because not one of their products is cheap or low quality. I know that ANY Mesa amp is ready to hit the road and crank out the tunes night after night.
@tonymckenziecom
@tonymckenziecom Жыл бұрын
Great to know you like Mesa Boogie! I do too. But here's something you might not quite follow... I have bought Mesa amps since about 1978, covere triaxis and 2:90, MK III, MK IV, MK V, Rectifiers and much more. But you know what, I CANNOT buy a Mesa Boogie here in the UK currently and have not been able to for some time. Mesa was sold to others... and immediately I can't buy Mesa even if I wanted to. So it would be wrong to say that Marshall is X or Y, when the very brand you mention has its own problems. In fact every brand currently has its own issues from what I see. And MY Marshall amps remain really good products... from 1987x,1959HW, Studio Vintage, Studio JCM800, Studio 2525H, TSL100, JVM Satch head and more. I like many brands and Marshall is from actual experience of owning them way up there with the best. Today, frankly, is NOT the 1970's and what they did then really does not work today as company after company will tell you if you ask them. Often they are stopped by the law were old practices CANNOT be used any longer which is a god example of how companies have their 'hands tied' in these oh so crazy times. Thanks for the post, your opinion is as valid as any of course and thanks for watching.

For the first part of your comment I agree 100% but please don't talk about mesa and reliability. If you ever opened up Mesa you would quickly understand what am I talking about. Everything is squeezed as much as possible and also there are so many undervalued parts inside, it's crazy. Marshall had also couple bad designs but to put reliability and Mesa into the same sentence is just nonsense.
