I agree I believe he was going for the old saying if it ain’t broke don’t fix it but his real mistake was his ego he had every opportunity to study his opponent but the moment he saw one match he thought he had it in the bag

Man, with taking so many hits, I'm surprised Ippo has only recently gotten punch drunk. Absolutely tanking things and not using his footwork. I know that he was based on Mike Tyson and his peekaboo style, but Tyson was very good at sllipping and weight transfer to avoid getting smashed.

@@SuperKendoman uff I don't know if you read the most recent chapter but tomorrow is gonna be the most hype chapter in like 4 years. Spoiler warning... He isn't punch drunk though. The doctor said he was close but after a 1 and a half year break from boxing hes pretty much recovered as sendo's coach said during sendo's spar with ippo before the big gonzalez fight. We can see just how much ippo has grown. He's coming back better than ever, and this next chapter is gonna prove it. It's really just character development that was in my opinion really well done by morikawa. Ippo needed a break and what better way to do that than to break his spirits dramatically after the Guevara fight. I honestly cried reading that chapter as it was extremely well done when ippo lost for the 3rd time but have hope haha. It got me thinking though, ippo's new Dempsey roll is extremely similar to mike tyson in his prime yet it was incomplete for so long because I believe morikawa wanted a way to develope ippo further but not cheese it like we see in so many other shounen. His power up is honestly well deserved as a result, and I believe it's gonna be a similar case like with date where kumi is going to realize that he misses the ippo that had the burning passion within him as a man who wants to be the best in the world. It was after mashiba's preliminary match for the world title that we saw just how much kumi has grown as a character too, and I think somethings going to happen to the coach that will make ippo's fire burn hot. Once he gets permission from kumi of course haha

@@vasper7582 thank you for the reply. I haven't read about 500+ chapters. I'm so glad that his career didn't just end there and I now need to catch up on the manga. Sendo and Volg were always my favorite characters from the anime and manga, I heard that they went to America for a chance against the world title as well.

Pretty much. Hayami is a sad reality of most boxers than have their careers ended short. Same with Jason ozuma in which ippo literally blew his back out to the point where he had to retire too

Yeah so what happened was ippo broke his jaw so badly with that uppercut that now whenever he fights he's a glass jaw and cannot take hits at all

I want a multi chapter arc based off of him, possibly started by him beating itakis rival (forgot his name) who goes to same gym as him in sparring or something, before mounting a Japanese or OPBF title challenge. Weve got a few panels of him in a throw away chapter against, we dont even see the shot that Kenta KOd him with. Really dont like the current chapters that much. None of the Kakogawa lads have done anything for ages ( cant rember the last time i saw one of them besides takamura or ippo), Very little sendo, and too much bloody woli

Hayami received permanent injury from Ippo here, but it didn't quite ruin him yet. Hayami still has a very solid career up to JR. Featherweight champion against Kobashi. Which after losing that, he begins his spiral loss streak
