Imagine if the anime had the quality of the manga. They left out 50% of the cool stuff. Seki is actually an EXTREMELY technical fighter, he doesnt just take the hits, he can micro-dodge in order to minimize damage and even counter. Also hes one of the most wholesome guys in the series.

They didn't cover this in the fight but there is a method to Seki's madness. In the manga, they explain that Seki's style of not blocking is actually something else. Instead of just eating hits like nothing, Seki will turn his body in ways that make it so his opponent's hurt themselves while fighting him. The biggest example was why Takeru fell after giving Seki his spear. Seki tightened his abs and then thrust his chest downwards in order to protect his guts and slam his chest into the back of Takeru's head. So not only did he get feedback from his own headbutt, but also the force on back of the head as well. Seki also does it for blocking punches to the face and blows to the body. It's better explained in the manga!

So, theres a little something youre not getting from just the anime. Seki moves in a way, when he receives hits that softens the blows by alot. When kiozan headbutted him, seki pushed down his chest, retracting his stomach at the same time, pushing kiozans head down as he impacted. That made a lot of the force go into the back of his head and neck. Its not that seki won just because of his conviction, its that through his conviction he perfected his style of wrestlng, while kiozan didnt do the same with sumo. Thats what in the end kata said that seki won through his efforts.

What I understood from Takeru (Sumo) is that he wanted to go to the roots of sumo, when the martial art was created, yes, the bodies were big but small enough to throw kicks without an issue, overtime sumo transformed into a short very explosive fight but with the downside that anyone with good reflexes to evade the tackle can win against a sumo, that's what Takeru didn't liked and saw modern sumo as weak in comparison to other martial arts that for sure are outdated but could still win a few matches against other martial arts.

I wanna just say that Pro-Wrestling isn't *fake*, it's *scripted*. Half of your training is how to do a move safely, the other half is how to *take* a move safely. Seki's style is the second half cranked up to 11 - taking the bump as safely as possible while still looking like a solid hit to a casual observer, and then in Kengan matches, doing it in such a way that the attacker takes damage.

while force (mass x acceleration) is important for strikes, what you measure is the impact and pressure of an attack. 1/2 *mass * velocity squared gives you the impact strength (im ignoring time as a factor here because its pretty much negligible for this system) still, with the force you have you accelerate your body and that over time gives you speed so they are pretty much related

Something that's always irked me when it comes to fighting series like this talking about Sumo is that they always say Sumo wrestlers have no stamina. But that's not the case at all. When they're not fighting in a 15 day tournament every other month, they're training for those tournaments. They train upwards of 6 hours a day 6 days a week in order to build up their body to its absolute peak. By no means are these guys lacking in stamina. But due to the fact that a match can end in less than a second, they are trained to burn through all of that stamina as quickly as possible in order to secure the win. The way I compare it to try and get my friends to understand it is, try to push a 300 lb sack of potatoes 15 feet as quickly as you can. Literally burn every last ounce of strength in your body to move it that 15 feet in less than 3 seconds. And when you come back panting and out of breath, realize that in a sumo match that the sack of potatoes is gonna be pushing back. A sumo wrestler preparing to fight in an MMA match or something that lasts longer than a few seconds would obviously train differently. Also, given the strength training sumo wrestlers go through in order to be as powerful as they are. I'm kinda scared what a full power kick or elbow strike would be from one of them. Especially cause there are filmed cases of Wrestlers being knocked out cold from a single palm thrust.

@@Motorata661 The actual art is overmuscled but the official weights are more representative of realistic martial artists (usually). For instance Ohma is 6' and built like John Cena, who weighs like 250lbs at 6'1, but Ohma is only 185-ish. Seki is 6'5 311 which is at least sort of accurate to a huge roided up wrestler, Brock Lesnar is about the same lbs per inch. That's not a debilitating weight. Sumo boy is 6'4 350 so he's both heavier and objectively does less stamina training than Seki who has superhuman level workouts in the manga at least.

Im sure others have pointed it out but Seki isnt really "just taking" the blows. Every single blow is met by a micro dodge (moving just enough to throw off the impact some, or allowing the blow to push you while you are essentially shadowing it) which is what he does when he gets hit in the head, muscle deflection where he tightens certain muscle groups while relaxing others to again change the way impacts happen, or a combination of both.

Also I believe it was in Baki or was it in the manga of Kengan Ashura, that against that sumo tackle, the character on the receiving end angled it's belly so that on impact, the head of the sumo changed trayectory, diminishing the damage received by the fighter but the sumo received the same damage as if it were a normal sumo tackle, his neck suffered a lot of weight on impact. That might be what Sekibayashi did, still can't remember if it was on Baki or in Kengan where they showed this explanation, if it was in Kengan then that explains it, Skibayashi was prepared for the tackle but Takeru didn't expected Seki's plan.

Its actually has addition to the finale of this battle. its not only about the faith and all that stuff. Sekibayashi made a counter-move to Kiozan when he get this final hit which result was - the heavy head-trauma of Kiozan and why he falls. There was told that this is the Sekibayashi unique style - recieve blows in special way to damage attacker even more. And all that stuff. Also he almost crushed when he was out of the arena. But he is a pro-wrestler so he was playing that "walking" while in reality he was damaged beyond belief. Good fight good anime and manga is good too. actually, a Straight Jacket is when trap the arms across the opposite side of the body so a Straight Jacket Germen Suplex would be when you are taking the Back and have the opponent Left wrist in your right hand and his Right wrist in you left hand, then you drop your hips below your opponent's when you lift you push out with hips trying to get your Pelvis under theirs so you have the lower center of gravity and the more stable base when you arch back you lead with using your chest, shoulders, and upper back, you never lift with your back it is a good way to throw it and you don't want to be taking to much damage to your lower back as you are bumping (Falling) onto solid wooden boards with only a thin peace of padding and a canvas. I have a very important question. One I’ve been pounding my head against for years. I get what your saying, you have to sacrifice what seems practical to stay within the rules, even so, they are still good at what they do. But my question is that I really really hope you or someone else can help me answer…. What happens when your practicing a vary underdeveloped or not very practised martial art. Like there is forms and stances and all that. But if it’s so underdeveloped technique wise, do I still stick to the rules and train for a typical match in that martial art, or do I only take inspiration for it and in a way, sacrifice it to better suit a MMA sort of match? Do I sacrifice my conviction to to the sport in order for it to be practical and able to fight other fighters, or do I believe in it more and be patient with it till I can finally fight another same practitioner? I know this question is complicated but as I said, I really really would appreciate any answer. Thank you and grate video.
@BurridgeMartialArts604
@BurridgeMartialArts604 2 жыл бұрын
That will depend entirely on your goals. Do you want to step in the ring and fight MMA? Or are you learning that martial art for the love of it? If you want to fight then going got a gym that teaches the style you want to fight in would be the best choice. However, if you're passionate about your style and your goal is to learn and perhaps one day be able to improve upon it for future generations, then stick where you are. If you want to try and make what you are learning more practical, then pressure testing is required. Hard sparring (only very rarely should you do hard sparring by the way) or competition is a great way to test it. Failing that, get a training partner and try to use your techniques while they try to resist them and see if you can make it work (essentially sparring but a little more targeted). Hope this helps with your decision!

I do like the message of this fight like while you need to be well rounded to fight in MMA there’s nothing wrong with being a specialist. A fighter with a Taekwondo Background will add in all the techniques from Poomsae and look like an MMA fighter but might barely kick anymore. It loses the beauty of what Taekwondo is. Compared to the pro wrestlers approach who has adapted the combat philosophy and techniques of pro wrestling for a well rounded ruleset.

man, that anime fight was terrible...just pure plot armor...basically that wrestler dude was just face blocking everything until sumo guy got tired of beating the crap out of him ...why in anime /cartoons 95% of fights has to be written in a super lazy way like that, ,so sad...guys responsible for writing fight scenes are as competent as one of these ``social media or mainstream doctors`` or 90% of fitness influencers.

You are wrong about it being plot armour, the fight made sense because one was built for max stamina the other wasn't. I think the only terrible thing about it is sumo and pro wrestling look dodgy in motion.

@@aidenmurdoch how the fight scene could be written in a way where pro guy would be still counting on his high hp with same exact game plan of exhausting sumo guy first and only then going in with finishing move, but making not abusing plot armor ,and make character pro guy actually look smart: Pro guy actually blocks majority of sumo guy's punches, Sometimes dodges them while making sure to throw in once in a while power shot and some taunts once in a while to provoke sumo guy rush in even more and get himself exhausted even faster, but pro guy spends most fights being passive, except when sumo guy gets frustrated to much and goes after actually dangerous power moves then pro guy unexpectedly switches to full blown dash atk and stops sumo guy before he throws that dangerous move or counters it or dodges ,or at least actually tries to do all that named stuff instead of purposly face blocking everything and getting away with... In my opinion if damage sustained in fights gets randomly ignored for no reason that means that everything you seen in a fight had no weight or purpose in a fight except for that last power shot or combo characters does in anime fights.

@@lightartis228 this is an abridged version of the fight, throughout the fight the pro wrestler does taunt the sumo guy making him to freak, out this causes him to get sloppy and waste energy. The point of the pro wrestler is it's his duty as a professional to take the attacks, this part is borderline magic but his technique causes them to hurt themselves by throwing of the timing of impacts. People have broken hands, fingers and even forearm bones because of his technique. That's why the sumo guy fell at the end he got given a minor concussion by the wrestler when he headbutted him.

Damage sustained isn't ignored, he almost dropped out of the tournament after the first round. He decided to fight anyway and lost hard in the next round.

@@lightartis228 he also faked being hurt a few times during the fight. This was to encourage the sumo to go for a finishing move, but in the anime they only showed it once with the body press.
