This video, where I talk about my own reasons for choosing homeschool, ties into the answers to those questions: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bMpmibNzntK-YI0.html As far as philosophy, I don't adhere strictly to any one pedagogy for homeschooling, instead being more eclectic, seeing value in different aspects of Charlotte Mason, Classical, Traditional, etc. methods of education. Long term goal is to provide my children with an excellent childhood and an excellent education in a manner that's realistic for our family and our needs.

I picked up the same Schoolnest history timeline notebook, and I plan to look for sticker books (we're using American Girl history this year, so I got AG stickerbook and just will use the doll stickers of each girl's book we use), and any I cannot find already made, I will just google search images, and then print on sticker paper, which I already have. Not sure if that helps or not!

Thanks so much for all the time you put into creating booklists! It made it easy to find books that would enrich our study of early US history!

I was really impressed with the art books when I found them on my aunt's shelves! And glad to find them for about $4 each on Thriftbooks. There are a lot of books in the series, seems like some are harder to find for a good price than others.

@@SevenInAll Oh yes!! ThriftBooks is just so much fun, although I will say that sometimes I'll leave it as my last resort for when I'm looking for a specific out of print book because it's almost like it takes the thrill of the hunt away from when I go out thrifting in real life. For example, there's a 2nd and Charles not too far from me and they sell used books.....😳 it is dangerous for a book addict like me (and I think would be for you too). The prices are crazy good there and also at Goodwill for children's books so.....yeah, it can be bad. Hahah! ANYWAY!!!! Yes, those books look so awesome. I love the 2 different series. I'm going to try to do online research to see exactly what they have inside each of them. ☺️😍💓

For the history timeline, would it be practical to make a shrunk down copy of a picture from the book you're reading for that time period? I'm adding the art books to my list! Want to add picture studies now that we've got a routine with the core subjects. Thanks for sharing the haul! Trolli sour worms are a favorite of mine, too. Twix cold from the fridge was my pregnancy obsession, though.

I'm excited about those art books! I get obsessed with ice-cold water during pregnancy (normally I'm not the kind of person who needs ice in my water) and cold, fresh cucumbers...anything cool and fresh tasting, haha!

So, so many good books! Added a few to my purchase list. I'd love to see a flip-through of Apologia's Zoology and Astronomy. I bought their preschool science but I'm interested in taking a deeper look into their elementary curricula.

What led you to not use Sonlight this year or are you using that too?
@SevenInAll
@SevenInAll Жыл бұрын
So, my plan is Sequence 1 for our 1st grade year. Sonlight's 1st grade level also focuses on an intro to US history, so the topics were very similar...but I liked the greater focus on picture-book history for this age level (in Sequence 1). There is actually some overlap between the Sequence 1 and Sonlight A booklists. I really appreciate Sonlight...but K and A-C are not my favorite levels...I think Sonlight is stronger at the higher grade levels, so now that my son has finished Pre-K, we're taking a break from Sonlight for a couple years.

I'm curious how you budget for homeschool, when your opportunities for purchase are so irregular?
@SevenInAll
@SevenInAll Жыл бұрын
Our unusual lifestyle definitely affects budgeting, meaning that I don't budget in the way I 'normally' might for homeschool materials. Our regular monthly budget is allocated toward all regular living expenses with any excess beyond all the needs of life being shared between general short-term and long-term savings...and homeschool materials come out of one of those savings, typically the short-term as I would try to save the long-term for more long-haul items like when we need to purchase a car (other use of short-term savings might be if we need to purchase an appliance or something like that, something that does occasionally come up, but is bigger-ticket than you would expect in a typical month). I consider purchases very carefully, as a 'wasted' purchase is extra painful given the trouble of getting it here, and to my husband, anything spent on homeschool materials is worthwhile, and is also a steal of a deal because it's a tiny fraction of what private American school tuition would cost for the boys (which definitely gives a different angle in comparison to if we were thinking about homeschool vs. "free" educational options).
@user-xe6qz1cy8k
@user-xe6qz1cy8k Жыл бұрын
@@SevenInAll Oh short-term/ long-term savings makes a lot of sense! That sounds like something we should probably adopt. And yes, I definitely sympathize with carefully weighing every purchase. It is such a blessing to have a spouse supportive of homeschooling and homeschool purchases. :)
