Thank you! This had been very useful. I had downloaded the teacher's guide, but was unsure how to incorporate it into our already existing rhythm. I see now that we've already been doing a lot of the elements in G&C. As I was planning using First Language Lessons this upcoming school seasons, this works out perfectly. My son will be a second grader, but is "behind" due to his dyslexia. So we're taking things nice and slow. Thank you for the detailed video!

This was super helpful. So if I wanted to use this just for history I could essentially just use the free guide book to get the book titles, purchase what I want from thriftbooks and fill in the gaps with books I already own. I don't think I would need the student notebook because we could just draw and narrate on a piece of paper. I have this on the list of possibilities for next year. I want something literature heavy because this year I have not read as much as I usually do and I want to pick that back up next year. I think having new-to-them titles will the key as we've read our home library books over and over since they were little. I am also looking into Sonlight, although I remember you saying you don't really like the early elem. book selections from Sonlight. I really think I am leaning towards G&C Seq 1. Will this series continue and provide a full elem history curriculum experience? It seems like I saw that there will be Seq 1-5 which could be used for 1st-5th grades. Is that correct?

Yes, NEW books can be so motivating, for both parent and child. :) She is planning to release Sequences 1-5, but they may not be ready in time to be used consecutively over the next five years, that would be my concern since it's so new and Sequence 2 is still being written.

I am using Sequence 1 this year with my 3rd and 1st graders (my pre-k daughter will listen in too). Instead of using the recommended additional literature books though, I’m using the WonderTales from Primer since my 1st grader and my pre-k haven’t experienced them as fully as my 3rd grader. I also opted to use Egermeier’s Interactive Story Book Bible instead of the one recommended. I’m so excited to get back into Gentle Classical, we tried a different program this past year and it just didn’t fit us as well.

Egermeier's is a great option for a storybook Bible that's a little more complex than most. I'm excited to use this program even though I have to wait an extra year. :)

Nothing wrong with using a different science!!! We love the memory statement cards in morning virtues so maybe my youngest would do well with them!!! She don’t often sit in!!! She can but it’s optional for her as we can use older resources with my older kids that pair well!!! I’m thinking of using 1st language lessons!!! We often use the same list in German for spelling and I see better spelling in German with my older kids!!! I’m thinking of using this with my youngest but not do as much of the history as we have to do Aussie studies that includes history!!!

I have the same 50 States book and will likely also use it with Sequence 1, haha! My middle guy is doing Primer for K this year, but I'm very interested in Sequence 1 for him when he's in 1st grade.

Thank you for this!! We will be completely new to homeschooling this year. My now 2nd grader is a strong reader//bookworm. If I purchase G+C preschool for my 3yr old along with with sequence 1 for my 7yr old, will this be a fairly open and go, all in one option for my daughters to do together while still in their separate levels? More clearly, is this a program for families with wide age ranges to still be able to use together? Thank you so much for your videos- so very helpful!
@SevenInAll
@SevenInAll Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call G+C programs "open and go", myself, I would tend to use that term more for curriculums where you literally just turn to the next page the next day and do whatever is on that page with zero prep or extra books necessary. If you purchase digital, there is definitely some prep work up front as far as printing and cutting up memory work cards, and beyond that, gathering all the books that the program is based on (whether purchasing them or finding them from the library). While it's not "open and go", it is a CONSISTENT program that keeps the same format over and over again with different content, so having used several G+C curriculums myself, I've found that it's very easy to roll with a quick prep/set up routine as you move from one unit to the next, and the new planning grids make planning easy. I do have a video dedicated to Gentle + Classical Preschool, if you haven't seen that, here it is: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j5xppthhl9fPYZ8.html The ages/developmental stages of being 3 years old and 7 years old are naturally so different that much of the content isn't necessarily going to apply to both. "Family Style" learning will probably become more practical once your younger child is school age. Your 3 year old may not yet be able to clearly sing hymns the way your older child can, and doesn't need to learn spelling/grammar rules, and probably won't fully grasp the importance of Gutenberg's invention of the printing press....and yet, they may very much enjoy being present and joining in family schooltime. :) I have a 3 year old myself at the moment who is very much thriving with Gentle + Classical Preschool, and my older son still enjoys sitting in on his stories...meanwhile, my 3 year old sits in on the stories that are more targeted toward my older son, but definitely doesn't engage with them at the same level of understanding....and runs off to play when his older brother is working on reading, math, writing, etc. The little one was 2 when I did Gentle + Classical Primer with his older brother and he joined in with enthusiasm...but I still plan to repeat it with him when he's old enough to grasp the material at a deeper level. Hope that's helpful!

Do you plan to do this family-style with your younger son as well, or will you blend 2 separate G+C programs? My sons will be PK & 1st grade next year, and I’m debating doing Primer so that I can use it with both of them, although Sequence 1 looks awesome and I do think my 1st grader would be ready for it. Thank you for your super informative and upbeat videos!!

My boys will be the same grade levels, 1st, and PreK next school year. I don't plan to do 2 G+C programs at the same time...but I also know that a good bit of Sequence 1 will go over my Pre-K son's head. I just started Primer this month (We did Primer for my oldest's PreK year last year, and now I'm starting over with it, aimed mainly at the just-turned 4 year old), and I think we'll be wrapping Primer up roughly around the time when I plan to start Sequence 1 this fall. I expect that my boys will be together for most of the read aloud time (they usually both want to be there, even if I'm reading books more aimed at my little one or my bigger one), and I think my PreK son will definitely enjoy and get a lot out of certain parts--like the Bible stories, catechisms, the fables, the folk tales. At the moment I'm thinking the longer picture books for history and the geography content will go over his head--but hey, sometimes kids surprise you with what they understand or remember. So I will probably add some extra storytime with easier books just for my little guy, but I don't plan to do a fully separate program with him--I think he'll get a good amount of Bible/literature/music out of Sequence 1, and he'll join us for any crafts or hands on activities connected to history.

Thanks so much for the flip through. If I start this with my first grader, what would I do once they are in 2nd grade? Would the books just change? I'm also curious if you know when they plan to come out with Sequence 2?
@SevenInAll
@SevenInAll 11 ай бұрын
They plan to come out with a Sequence 2 in 2025, which will have more of a focus on an intro to civics and economics. They currently plan to release Sequences up until Sequence 5. I would expect that the format would largely stay the same but with different book titles, I also think they are using the same recommended storybook Bible in Sequence 2 (because in this year, you only read through all the New Testament stories). My son won't be in 1st grade until NEXT school year, so the wait until 2025 for Sequence 2 won't be a problem for us--for some families who are using Sequence 1 with 1st graders this year, I have heard that some are planning to switch and use something different for the school year beginning in 2024, and some are planning to stretch Sequence 2 out over 2 years, because there's a lot of content in there for a young child.

What is it about this curriculum that it always seems to have books that are impossible to obtain. That Bible story isn't available to purchase. However you can put yourself on a notification list with the publish for whenever the 3rd publication is released. But there isn't a project release date. So yeah Egermeier will probably be the compromise for most folks sadly
@SevenInAll
@SevenInAll Жыл бұрын
That's often an issue with any literature-based curriculum that DOESN'T also sell book packages (and then the ones that do sell complete book packages are very expensive). Egermeier's is a great Bible option, though, for a storybook Bible that's more complex and detailed than the early storybook Bibles.
