Glad I found your channel. I’m currently working on a system similar to this except I’m using 5 1-gallon tanks on top of a 10 gallon. I had to stop and figure out a couple things before setting up and start breeding. In between my project I found your video and it motivated me to get it going again.

The best thing breeding fish, the babies get attached to you. Not only they follow you when pass by. And when you put your hand in the water they swim between your fingers and nibble them. It's really hard to let them go. Believe it or not, I started with 18 and I have over a thousand now.
@sydneysangels

Wow, that's amazing! Yes I totally agree, doing things like that make me feel more connected with the animals I keep. When I was young my dad had a Koi pond. I used to swim with the Koi and let my feet dangle in the water. They could come up and nibble my toes. It was amazing!

Good stuff bud. Really good stuff. I'm just starting to put a system together and I got ideas from you here. I was gonna buy shelves but after watching your video on stand builds I will be building my own. I've got everything from a forty to a 50 to a couple 30s and multiple 10s. A few will be hooked up to a large central sump system. I've gotta build stands for all of them.
@KrigareAvHallarna

Central sump is risky even when you're VERY careful and watch for signs of infection, if you don't isolate your tanks ASAP, it'll spell disaster.

I live vicariously through people who actually have the room to do setups like this. I breed bettas and my whole fish room is probably a 6' x 6' ish space haha, maybe 7' x 7' i actually managed to fit a 40 gallon breeder, a 30, 26 bow front, 20 long, two 10s, four 5.5s and a 3.6 gallon tank, as well as a shelf that fits 76 small jars for my betta juvies in that tiny space with a bit of walking room. Tetras has served me well xD
@sydneysangels
@sydneysangels Жыл бұрын
Wow, that sounds like you've used every inch of space! Is it a pain to change water in all of those jars? I've thought about breeding Bettas but that sounds intimidating!
@creaturecola3208
@creaturecola3208 Жыл бұрын
@@sydneysangels would have more space if i didn't have to keep boxes of equipment and stuff on the floor too haha. its a shared space so i'm pretty limited. and omg yes, when they can have well over 500 fry, ( i had over 550 once, it was a nightmare ) even half of those being individually changed manually is a ton of work and takes hours. would definitely benefit from setting up a betta barracks system for easier water changes. i definitely would myself if i had my own house, but i'm living with family. i used to take each jar to the bathroom and dump them into the sink and pour clean water in from a bucket, now i use a syphon hose to drain each jar between 50-90% into one bucket and then put my other bucket on the top shelf above the jars and put the water back in with a syphon without moving any of them, its way easier and way faster but still a lot of work since it has to be done every day or two. the fry also need to be fed 3-4 times a day for the first couple months or they don't grow so its not something you can do if you're not home all day. and if you feed them too much bbs they won't grow a swimbladder making them unable to swim properly and will need to be culled, but feeding too much worms early on makes them often not grow ventral fins so its both tedious and complicated haha. you really gotta feed small varied meals often to avoid these issues and actually get good growth. I still have to do the bathroom method at times, depends on how many fry i get, cause i end up having to put some jars on the floor and you can't really drain them into a bucket that's also on the floor lol there's a bit of room in front of my 40 gallon which is high enough off the floor where i can use the bucket but not a lot so if i get over 100 males i'll definitely have floor fish.

No need to waste money on the tank as a container for larger water quantity, you get a big tank made of plastic with deep substrate and plants with a growing light and have a small circulation system with these boxes to circulate water. Secondly no need to get air stones those pumps that allow water with air to merge and create aeration is best option. Furthermore with deep substrate system the microbial level in the tank would become stable and have an ecosystem. The feedings would be reduced as well because the small creatures would become food the for fry. Check father fish. Fresh water in terms of pH and the microbial load can affect the babies significantly.

@@yoelbino1 are you doing daily? 50% water changes? Fry need clean water to survive! Keeping the bottom of the aquarium clean is extra important because they can get bacterial infections quite easily when they're small. Also, do you have very hard water? I noticed my fry survival wasn't as good with my super hard water. For whatever reason. I would just keep losing fish every day. Also, do you have high amounts of chlorine in your water? Are you treating the water with an anti- chlorinator?

couldn't you remove the rodi filter, unmount the plywood, remount the plywood a little lower, remount the filter back onto the plywood, now you have more room to mount onto plywood and don't have to re-do the PVC work? i know it's a bit of work and maybe just adding new PVC could be easier lol subscribing for being a fellow short king lol edit: nvm saw you mounted it with scrap! for the light diffuser + plastic canvas do you suspend it in the tank or just set it down plastic canvas facing up and let the light diffuser keep it off the bottom of the tank and let eggs sit in those little spaces?
@sydneysangels

Haha thanks for the comment the sub! Hahaha fellow short king I love it 😂 yeah let the portion with the light diffuser face downwards, that provides an area of refuge for the eggs that make it through the plastic canvas 😊

Why do you measure length with volumetric measurements? For example, you said this is 20 gallons long! That’s a bit like saying my weight is 12 litres, or the average speed I traveled in my car today was 65 kilograms!

Instead of vacuuming the fry trays, why don't you have a spare fry tray, carefully pour the contents of a fry tray, into the clean tray and then easily clean the used fry tray and then continue on to the next fry tray. Should be a lot faster and better than vacuuming.
@sydneysangels
@sydneysangels Жыл бұрын
That's not a bad idea! Especially with some of the more stubborn waste that sticks to the tray. The problem is it's such a pain in the butt to get these trays in and out since I didn't leave myself enough room. Once I move this system I'll have to experiment with that technique. Thanks!

@@sydneysangels No disrespect intended to you at all. *MY* experience was I saw your thumbnail while searching in YT and thought "yes - that looks great would love to see it" and went into to watch your video. But to me it had lots of "fluff" that I was not interested in. It just seemed to take long time to get to the subject of your thumbnail. To me it seemed like too much time was spent talking about things that were irrelevant to the subject topic - I watch a LOT of YT (I dont watch TV anymore) and so know a good YT video when i come across one. Some have the whole concept down pat, others seem to struggle with production quality and value. Cut your video down with some hard editing - only leave the good stuff up there- in other words be brutal with editing. Do this and your production value will soar. You have some interesting material - it just needs a little polishing. I have taken the time to write this to you so that you can at least consider raising your production value.

@@jimjones7821 I totally agree, this could have probably been a 10 to 15 minute video. I have been a lot better about editing some fluff, but this video was more of a ramble and I didn't cut a lot of it out for some reason. I do actually really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to make me better, in the end. I do want to improve and comments like this are helpful. The human factor in me immediately gets offended, but I know you don't mean offense by it, you're just helping me out. We live in a 3 second world right now, so that doesn't leave much room for fluff lol. If you're interested in a good example of less fluff, my giveaway winner announcement was actually written down before I recorded so there was no wasted time. Maybe give that a watch and let me know what you think? Although the end is kind of fluffy lol. Thanks again! I hope you can see this channel one day and notice some big improvements as I only started really making videos in May

@@sydneysangels No worries Sydney. Video production is an art and takes time to learn. The hardest thing for me to get to grips with was editing. You HAVE to be brutal about what ends up on the cutting room floor. If you can do that your videos will improve by an order of magnitude! If you really want to treat your viewers, get straight in there and to the point. Tell us what you want to say but do it to the point and you will earn a lot of followers - of course nothing ever replaces interesting content in the first place - but you have that - just work on editing and you will do fine. I watch a lot of fish videos/channels. If you really want to see how polished it can be take a look at Aqurium Co-op - look at the early videos compared to their latest. Cory is knocking the ball out of the park. keeping fish simple is another good channel that is constantly improving. Jason's Cichlids is a good example of videos that need the editing razor taken to it! He has really interesting content but it drones on and on and on and he usually repeats everything he says at least twice and sometimes more. Its easy to be an armchair critic though and I get that. Video is a new skill to be learnt - keep at it !

Can't tell from video / i might be being dumb but is your stand the same as Joey's? Can't tell if yours has wood running down the inside to support the weight. He tends to try to have all the weight resting on wood uprights just to be safe, not on the screws/ nails incase of fails.
