Make a little wooden bridge over the scale so you can rest the heal and pivot onto the wirel like the Bess tester. This will eliminatie any sliding of the blade.

I guess you discontinued the version that can go below 10 degree. I have kitchen knives that require thinning behind the cutting edge.

Yes. Not enough demand.

This guy is going to reinvent knife sharpening. Only problem is he makes improvements to his jigs so fast that past models become obsolete! Great stuff, tho.

The great thing is that the is an add on to my original design.

You had me until you said attach it to a magnet, do you offer another clamping system ?
@davidcrtalic9795Ай бұрын
Yes there is a regular clamp you find on fixed blade sharpening systems and the magnet in video

If you strop after, edge trailing is best. If you dont strop after, edge leading is best. Back and forth is perfectly fine, if there is an angle change to the final passes. Best is to do back and forth 10dps on a coarse stone. Then very few passes between 15 to 20dps (depending on steel), on a fine stone. This will give a thin edge but stable apex, and fastest resharpen. 😇👍 Nice sharpener!

Glad to see you were able to get that gram scale with a hold function. I love mine, but I use bess test strips and their holder for more accurate sharpness testing. I thought of the fishing line as well, but just knew that people were probably going to say that it was not as accurate as using calibrated line from a company that specializes in sharpness test systems, and beside, the test strips and holder were not that costly anyhow. I did create and 3d print a pedestal for the tip of the knife to sit in while cutting the test strip, but haven't created a video using it yet, so I think that will be next.

Yes. Thanks for the link to the gram scale. I picked trilene because it’s an established brand with a product that is readily available. I imagine that their product is very consistent.

@@sharpworx It would be interesting to see how it tests a barbers straight edge, because I believe they test at around 40 or less, but not quite sure. I might actually look into the trilene line myself if it gives accurate results.

I tried to order the scale you recommended but they’re not available in the UK unfortunately. When I get a scale I intend to use fishing line too. I’ll get a bag of Bess test clips and calibrate my system to be as close as possible to Bess using different strength lines. It would be nice to get an exact match but not essential as long as the readings are consistent and repeatable it’ll be good enough for monitoring results over time.

You just need to find one with the hold function.@@thechumpsbeendumped.7797

I have a BESS tester, but if you want to use fishing line (WAY cheaper!), I'd recommend calibrating the results the way Edge On Up does, by running a series of tests on double-edge razor blades, utility razor blades, etc. The double-edge razor blades would be particularly helpful to determine whether the fishing line gives consistent results across a single package and across packages from different lots.

I don’t sell the sharpness tester. I bought a scale on Amazon with a hold function and added the filament holder.

I love your inventiveness. You're creating reproducible techniques with measurable results. What more could anyone ask for? I guess if you can make a robotic vending machine I can stick a knife into at Walmart and get it sharpened in 60 seconds for $3, that would be the dream.

I love the idea of using a scale as an At Home BESS Test. I recently had a similar idea. All that's needed is to find a universally available & repeatable source for the monofilament line, figure out the tension needed for that line to equate to the BESS test. So when you lay the edge against the line, the weight reading on the scale (at home) will, or should be a "BESSt guestimate" to equal an actual BESS test. Yes/No/Maybe So? I've a few ideas for accessories for that system. Love to be able to sit down & chat haha.
@sharpworx8 күн бұрын
I used Trilene 2lb which is a common monofilament.
@sharpworx8 күн бұрын
You could also correlate those results with Bess.
@sharpworx8 күн бұрын
Or just figure out the Bess material they use and find a source for it. Then you have it for $20.
