The way Rob tells it is that he brought this song to the guys as a ballad. And then he was like wtf when Paul started adding this upbeat drumming to it. And then Kyle accidentally strained a guitar note for the intro that stuck. And then it becomes their first and only #1 billboard single.

I love your comment ❤️. I got to see Rob touring on his"" Something To Be "" debut solo album in 2005 . I love that album and Cradelsong album . Anna Nalick opened for him . I'm older now so I love remembering these memories.

FYI: Matchbox Twenty has a new album coming out on the 26th of this month. It's been 10 years since their last album. Oh, and two singles have already been released: "Wild Dogs" and "Don't Get Me Wrong" - both of which can be found on KZfaq. Oh, and now that you're doing their 2nd LP, I hope you'll have a reaction video soon for "If You're Gone." It's a beautiful power ballad.

I always secretly liked rock music (Hip Hop/R&B head here) and that first few seconds of this song featuring that guitar riff got so stuck in my head that I became an instant fan of these guys

Glad you're now hearing their 2nd album. So many great songs. Unfortunately, some of the favorites weren't released as singles, so there are no videos for those ones (e.g. Angry, Last Beautiful Girl, Rest Stop ...). That said, you're gonna love the power ballad - "If You're Gone." It's on my Top 5 list of favorite Matchbox songs. Can't wait for you to see that video .... ENJOY !!!

Hell yes! Always a pleasure seeing you react to matchbox twenty. For sure my favorite band. Favorite album has to be tied between mad season and more than you think you are. Their sound progresses into more arena rock by their third album and it’s badass. Like others have said, Rob’s solo stuff is great too. Especially chip tooth smile. Just pure pop/rock bliss

Dude, good to see you! Good to see you still rockin' to these guys too. Hope all is well. When this came out I remember one of the reviews started off with "Matchbox Twenty gets loud." Great album. So many songs you still need to hear. "Started out clean, but Im jaded. Just phoning it in - just breaking the skin." Rob Thomas vocals, hooks and words are amazing as always. I am seeing them live in Boston in July. Come down and visit. Let's go see a show.

@@antonreacts you should also try digging into some Counting Crows more. Adams lyrics have always spoken to me just as much as Robs have. Hands down my two favorite bands of all time. You reviewed the August and Everything After album version of Mr. Jones. Even if you don't review it, listen to the version from Across a Wire. It's a totally different experience. The first time I heard it live, not only did I cry like a baby in the concert hall, but I fully fell in love with Counting Crows.
