Leaving aside many, way too many comments (staying away from the "comment" section is basic common sense, yet here I am contributing), Cillian Murphy is great as the title character, so is Robert Downey Jr in a supporting role. What amazes me about a role like that, one that is in every scene, is how an actor can maintain his consistency throughout. Felt the same about Daniel Day-Lewis in Lincoln. BTW - whose shirt is Matt Damon wearing?

In reference to Matt's comment, "I started out as a private and now I'm a general.", Cillian has gone from being a potential victim of a major virus that could affect all mankind ("28 Days Later") to being complicit in a project (Manhattan Project) that could potentially make victims of all mankind (“Oppenheimer”)….

Cillian was the lead role in a great sci-fi film that takes places in space called Sunshine. It also incidentally has a bomb as the central part of the story. The soundtrack has my favorite piece of film music, Adagio in D Minor by John Murphy. Wonder Woman many years later took that song and used it too. 28 Days Later is one of Cillian's films that is very well liked by fans. And he was in Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy as the Scarecrow villain.
@RickJames-wf2rm9 ай бұрын
Watch peaky blinders, the acting overall is top tier but Cillian is box office every time he's on screen
@MichaelSTaylor9 ай бұрын
Great take Jane, I was going to reply talking about Sunshine and you took most of the words right out of my mouth. The movie is terrific and the song completely next level and so stirring I must have listened to it hundreds of times over the years and it never really gets old. The one other highly memorable performance of Cillian's that comes to mind is Inception. He may not have been the main character, but his performance is central to a terrific picture. I saw Oppenheimer opening night and as amazing as Cillian's performance is, even at 3 hours it's the totality of the movie that blows you away. 11 miles is the length of the IMAX 70mm film, and virtually every inch of it is riveting.
@roadrollerdio5654 ай бұрын
Cillian has a small supporting role in Inception but, like his costar Tom Hardy, he punches well above his weight with a performance that is at the emotional core of the movie and makes you tear up. And yeah another great supporting performance in Nolan's 2017 movie Dunkirk as a traumatized soldier in WWII. Recommend that too! For smaller films where he's the lead, check out Where the Wind Shakes the Barley, beautiful Ken Loach movie about Irish independence and civil war history.
@Paul-tg4xg4 ай бұрын
@@roadrollerdio565 Watched him in Dunkirk. Have to agree he played that role perfectly as well as Tom Hardy's performance as the spitfire pilot. Both actors i hold in very high regard. Another actor i really respect is Gary Oldman. While he's best known for being an A lister Hollywood star, I think his best performance by far, for me personally that is, is Darkest Hour.

Great job, Matt. One of the 'least comfortable' great movies I've ever viewed. Probably bears noting this movie's intent was clearly the antithesis of 'comfortable' - as it should be. Any meditation on the immolation of tens of thousands of men, women and children is, at best, difficult. And the fact that the use of these monstrosities likely saved thousands of US soldier's lives (by obviating the need for a full-scale invasion of the Japanese homeland) feels a bit like the most extreme form of damning with faint praise. For sure, I'm grateful many American lives were saved - no question. Simultaneously the image (not part of this movie, thankfully) of Japanese children, who survived the immediate detonations, trying to slake their intense thirst caused by the intense heat and radiation of the blasts by opening their mouths to the highly radioactive particulate-caused rain drops that fell, virtually guaranteeing their deaths by radioactivity poisoning, is painful to the mind and soul of any even marginally thoughtful person. And the tired refrain of "Yeah, but the Japanese started it" misses the point entirely. I keep wondering when the grownups will come back... Oh, and yes, Cillian Murphy's (along with the rest of the cast's) performance was just short of staggering. "Bravice", Mr. Nolan.
