Hey Max, I am in my second oil change on a DCT. I drain the oil till no drops coming out. I pre fill the oil filter, I pure exactly 4.9 L of 10-30 Honda GA4 oil. 0.1 L is 100 ML which I take out from the last QT. I check my oil almost after every few rides exactly the way Honda says in the book. The bike is on a center stand in my garage. So, after 3 mins, when I pull the dip stick out, clean it, drop it down, pull it, it shows 1/16" over the high mark? Is that a risk? Is this normal? Should I take more then 100ML out?

It shows you how whacky the whole thing is... they should just have a damn sight glass! Anyway, I would suck a little out and go by the stick and the prescribed method. I believe when they say 4.9L, that would be for a new clean, dry engine. But I would have to verify that.

@@Traxxion Max, so it turned out that the 4.9 L is not correct !!!!! As you said, maybe on a completely dry engine. I had to pump out 290 ML of oil to bring the level to 80% above the lower line on the stick at 2.5 mins as soon as the engine was off. I used a timer. Bike was coming from work, level ground and on center stand. So, oil change total fill is 4.6L including pre-fill the oil filter and you go no wrong using 10W-30. CRAZY system by Honda. Disappointed. Sight glass it is. Thanks again for replying, Max.

@@alp3781 we did one the other day and got the same result... it did NOT take 4.9.

@@Traxxion I am glad I am not off here with this. You can find some videos with riders putting 4.9L and it totally wrong. Even after all 3 drain bolts out and the bike is on a side stand, you do not get much more oil out. I just don't get it. I got an email from Honda's HQ. They claim that if you are a hair above the upper line, it is fine!!!! However, they do insist on putting 4.9L, no kidding. I checked mine again, few times after the correct approach I have stated and it is at 80% full to the T every time. So, 4.6 - 4.7L @ 2-3 mins rest time is perfect, in my book now. Oil level on a bike is super super important. Most do not realize it. Have a bless day, Max.

I am sure that one of the 87 comment has already provided this information, but I am going to say it anyway. I have the 2018-2019 Honda Service Manual for the Gold Wing. Page 3-11, under the MAINTENANCE Chapter, tells the service technicians how to check the oil level. It states as follows: "ENGINE OIL LEVEL CHECK - Centerstand model (apparently not all models of the Gold Wing come with a factory installed centerstand, but all of the Gold Wing Tour models come with the centerstand) "Place the motorcycle on its centerstand on a level surface." Start the engine and let it idle for 3 - 5 minutes. Stop the engine and wait for 2 - 3 minutes. Remove the dipstick and wipe the oil from the dipstick with a clean cloth. Insert the dipstick without screwing it in, remove it and check the oil level. If the oil level is below or near the lower level mark on the dipstick, remove the oil filler cap and add the recommended oil up to the upper level mark. I happen to have a 2020 Honda Gold Wing Tour DCT Airbag model, and Honda assures me that the 2018-2019 manual will remain unchanged for the 2020 models. So, if you have a 2018-2020 Honda Gold Wing with a factory centerstand, just follow the simple instructions. No need to find a second person to hold the bike upright, or perform some sort of trapeze act to check the oil level on a model that comes with a centerstand.

Super helpful, on the two dipsticks. My goldwing came to me by inheritance from a dear friend lost last year. I noticed the dipstick looked different than the one in the manual and on various online videos. I found through looking around on the internet my friend had installed the Traxxion Dynamics dipstick extender, probably when he had the front end done. And it has the longer DCT dipstick. I am much more confident now knowing it is the correct factory dipstick. Thanks

For all the people complaining that Honda should have provided a sight glass, it makes checking slightly easier (just looking at the glass instead of using the dipstick), but it doesn't solve the issue of having to warm up the bike first. My ST1300 had a sight glass, and frankly, it was a pain because it wasn't significantly easier than dipping a dipstick, and it required getting down on my hands and knees to see the glass. I'd rather stand while checking than crawling around trying to see in the glass.

Mine doesn’t show a drop when cold or hot. I use a 2x4 stud and with your new dip stick and kickstand pad I got from you it is very close to being straight up and down so now it’s easy to check the oil with only one person. Great video here for sure ! 💪🏻

..Once you have changed the oil yourself 2 times ...You know how much oil is required in your oil change and it should eliminate the guess work for then on in !! Just make sure to prime your oil filter and let that filter soak up the oil 🛢 prior to filling with the set amount !!! Lol

It’s not that tough. Per Honda America tech. Kick a small piece of 2x4 under front wheel while bike is on center stand. Once back wheel makes contact with ground, check oil level. Tech said to check cold. Without starting. When I do it, shows oil level. All good.

I really enjoy your videos! It's always a good idea to check your oil level, but "if" a brand new Honda Goldwing used or lost oil, then I'd be highly ill. $30k for a motorcycle and oil issues shouldn't be coming up.

I haven't heard of a single one using or losing oil, so that's good. The problem is trying to measure the level "the normal way".

Question for you have you ever checked it and it seems like it needs more the the requirement amount of oil . I put 4.9 after a complete oil change and ran it for about 15mins then I waited 3 min like manual said and I had it on the center stand and seems like it needed more.??

This is not complicated. Center stand is correct. Cold in the morning, my 2018 six speed shows about 2.5 mm below full. Following the procedure, it is right on the mark. I have no idea why someone’s would show no oil cold except if it was on the kickstand or simply way low on oil. Using a level and a helper, there is maybe 0.010 difference from using the center stand. Logic would tell you that by the book, use the center stand. As Max mentioned, you do not screw the dip stick in to check it. As another mention, if you use a Honda filter and nearly 4.9 quarts, you’re finished with a six speed. I start with 4.7, check it, and add a little until full. 4.9 is pretty close on my bike. Just a tad over. If you are going by bottle marks, forget it. Even precision beakers in a quantitative analysis lab would no be absolutely perfect as the temp of your add oil to bring it up to the mark would change density. Be consistent and it benefit you and your beautiful piece of artwork Honda built for you.

Good video this time. You showed it's not that hard. Dipsticks are approximation of oil level, not a measuring gauge. If it's in the acceptable area, it's good to go. Temperature is a huge factor in how much oil it shows.

How about put a 2x4 under front tire and put on center stand
@Traxxion
@Traxxion 11 ай бұрын
I think it would be easier to put it on the centerstand and use a jack under the front of the engine to balance it with a level gap between the tires. I think a 2x4 is too much up in the front.

@Traxxion

It's a mystery to all... But the key element is to run it, turn it off, wait 3 minutes and then check it. If you check it right away you'll think it's low and way too much. If you wait over 5 minutes you'll think it's over full and drain some out. Completely stupid.
