Connor McDavid cut to the inside to avoid a check from Gustav Forsling, and in the process ran right through and over Aaron Ekblad. There was no call on the play. Should there have been? Have your say!

Hmmmm, it looks like McDavid was trying to avoid a hit after dumping in the puck and Ekblad was running interference. McDavid was chasing his own dump in.

As per the rules ... Ekblad would be penalized for Interference once the puck is dumped in, but since McDavid moved into him, its nothing and play on.

No interference as per the rules. McDavid had possession, and Ekblad delivered the hit within seconds of McDavid releasing it, therefor it was a completely legal check.

Maybe Ekbald shouldn't try to interfere with McDavid chasing the puck, and he wouldn't get run over. Either both get the box or neither, good no call.
@CB-ss9gj4 күн бұрын
It looks to me more like Ekblad is trying to rub out McDavid after he dumps the puck, but gets caught off guard as he cuts to the middle and pushes him out of the way. Doesn't seem like this should be a penalty to me. If Ekblad had rubbed out McDavid on the play would it have been interference ... probably not either.
@ericweeks83864 күн бұрын
It's the Trouba jump that would make me call 2 for charging here. No reason to jump.
@CB-ss9gj4 күн бұрын
@@ericweeks8386 Take Forsling out of the picture and I might agree with you. It just seems to me that McDavid is more bracing for impact from two defenders and Ekblad isn't ready. I would say the jump is more from natural skating motion trying to quicky push off his right skate to change direction.
@ericweeks83864 күн бұрын
@@CB-ss9gj Jumping as a brace is... not normal unless your name is Trouba or Kronwall. I agree that McDavid was getting ready for contact, but jumping into it is still charging, whether or not it was intentional.
@CB-ss9gj4 күн бұрын
@@ericweeks8386 I suppose, I just don't see it as a jump but rather the natural movement when you push off your skate edge. Thats probably the main point of disagreement.

He jumped to the side to avoid getting tripped by the other D. Ekblad happened to be in his way (which would be an interference call since McDavid didn’t have the puck anymore).

He drove up when he hit him but one foot was still on the ice, elbow was down. Reverse hit. And Panthers stop crosschecking and embellishing dives and just played hockey. Perhaps Panthers should focus on winning, not making the Oilers lose.

I see his arm raise to the crotch area, but he is just putting his arm reflexively at the player falling on him. Kind of a stretch to think he was going for the "balls". You'd have to get pretty surgical to grab the balls with your glove on and behind the jock/cup.

Honestly, I don't like McDavid for the fact he gets Gretzky suspensions, but they were literally interfering with him intentionally knowing he'd either have to take a hit or run into the pick like thing. Interference on ekblad in my opinion. Picks aren't legal in hockey are they?
@pyRoy64 күн бұрын
I guess it could technically be a charge, but my first thought watching it live, and on this replay, was that it's interference by Ekblad. I'm a bit too excited to dive into the rulebook right now, so I could be completely wrong.

@@FloydRunner2049 That's what I meant by "technically a charge." But that seems at odds with what was happening on the play. The puck was chipped into the zone, and Mcdavid is clearly trying to get it. Ekblad is ignoring the puck and trying to get in Mcdavid's way.

Normally I’d say no call on this, it’s SCF both players putting it on the line, no real advantage gained. However, we pulled out the microscope for an offsides review in game 6.
