it looks like stenlund just fell down. Hockey players at the nhl levels can squat like 300 pounds easy and have the strongest core muscles and just flop like that? It took Lomberg some serious power to check nurse to the ground. Anyhow, Panthers won, Stanley cup still goes to an American team. I have no idea how Canadians survive when their tax rate is so high.

Cross-checking is a forceful check, so while this was held in the typical cross-check motion, because he didn't extend his arms is why it would be called high sticking.

Do you want this weak sauce push as a penalty In hockey? I guess we have deluxe French cries and Waaamburger still being served. Cross checking is when you drive your stick through a player not push them off balance while holding on to your stick.

Sure call that penalty, No questions asked. Just call the game with the same consistency all game. WHICH the ref’s did not do. That after that one where is the retaliation cross check called? Reffing was horrible throughout the series, and the entire palyoffs. What Panthers got away with in the Bruins series was an embarrassment. And we still don’t know what goaltender interference is (they can skinner 4 straight games no call)

By definition, and how the rule is written, there is no exception for if you lose your footing and take a player out. This is not the first time a player has been called for a trip, when they themselves have tripped. I can't recollect when it has happened, pretty sure not in a SC Final Game 7, though. It's up to the referee's discretion, he didn't make the wrong call by technicality. I don't necessarily agree with the penalty, though.
@LiterallyLiteral
@LiterallyLiteral 22 сағат бұрын
@@WolfieMcG I’ll assume Fla’s goal interference was ignored instead of calling two penalties with the possible goaltender interference infraction just prior to the lost edge penalty. They had their looks and the Kulikov save and end to end there was the difference. Had a hunch the game might be a trading chance opportunity as it happens quite office where one team misses scoring and they get scored on immediately on an end to end. Fair play. No one stole the championship game via calls imo. Bettman is getting old, he was shaking announcing the Conn Smythe and he made a note to announce it’s been 30 years since Panthers joined. Last year’s second place finishes first this season and we’ll see if Buffalo makes it. 54 years and counting. Canucks have been to the SCF three times and Buffalo twice and neither won

I’m surprised that in the handshake line, the Panthers all didn’t snap their head back, grab their face and flop like a European footballer the moment any Oiler made contact with them. So disappointed in the league to allow such conduct and reward that style of play with a championship. It’s a double standard to brand yourself as this league of elite, skilled players, rich in tradition and pride, only to fart all of that out the window come playoff time where you’d rather push through mediocre southern markets into the national spotlight. …I’ll probably still watch again next year. 🫤

Their was two icings waved off, for know reason other than helping the panthers get the first goal. Fogoel was defiantly hooked right before he got his stick up. I thought that was the call when the refs hands went up.

The moment Chuck feels Holl's stick hook up in his gloves he then flops to ensure the hook is noticed and sold to the refs - not realizing Holl just hocked for a split second (still a penalty) and had already withdrawn his stick by the time he took his Olympic dive. The right call was made.

Honestly, I don't like McDavid for the fact he gets Gretzky suspensions, but they were literally interfering with him intentionally knowing he'd either have to take a hit or run into the pick like thing. Interference on ekblad in my opinion. Picks aren't legal in hockey are they?

Isn't #10 the one that's lifting his stick that high though? To me, it's one of those plays that looks like a highstick, but then you look at the replay and see that it might have actually been a good non-call
@WolfieMcG
@WolfieMcG Күн бұрын
Doesn't matter, you need to be in control of your stick even in a stick lift. McDavid received a highsticking penalty against Dallas in OT, when his stick was lifted. Just a missed call, simple as that.
@T-Ysjs12
@T-Ysjs12 Күн бұрын
@@WolfieMcG so he's supposed to both anticipate someone reaching from behind him to lift his stick even though he doesn't have the puck, AND out strength someone who has far better leverage in this position? That's dumb. And I'd say the same thing on the McDavid/Dallas one if I had seen it. I mean, could you call it? Sure. Should you call it? Absolutely not
@WolfieMcG
@WolfieMcG Күн бұрын
It's been called like that for a while, if the GMs cared it would be discussed, the rules are the rules. Also, your username is hockeydude (edit: I love how you went and changed it seeing as how you don't know much about hockey.) You should understand that at all times in a puck battle you need to anticipate a check. It's hockey. Two hands on his stick the whole time could have avoided that.

I think this is a reputational call. Perhaps if it was someone else who wasn't always pushing the envelope right in front of the refs eyes they would get the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure the refs go back and review all their calls and missed called post game and I think Tkachuk is in a lot of those. Is it fair ... I guess not, but if you start getting a reputation of trying to game the refs (especially in the playoffs deeper rounds where you start seeing the same refs over and over again), then you're going to start losing some more tough calls. Here he lost and I don't think its too much of a stretch to say your legs don't just go limp when being hooked. Also this is the only embellishment call of the finals so far.
@WolfieMcG
@WolfieMcG Күн бұрын
The NHL actually suggests clips for referee's to review their calls; these are, as I said, just suggestions and not mandatory.
@T-Ysjs12
@T-Ysjs12 Күн бұрын
Honestly, with the amount of time the refs allowed them before deciding if they wanted to challenge, i don't think it's as bold at that point. I mean, if you give professional video guys that much time on something objective like offsides, they're gonna find it every time. Now, it's a little tougher if they have to decide in 30 seconds which apparently is what the rule supposedly is, but that definitely wasnt the case on this one. It's tough though, because you want them to get the call right, but you also don't want video review to slow games down like that. What do you think about a delay of game call for plays like this where a team takes forever to challenge? That way they can still get the call right, but it penalizes you for unnecessarily slowing the game down to do so?
@WolfieMcG
@WolfieMcG Күн бұрын
There is no time limit written into the rule, just that a team can't "unduly delay the resumption of play," so it is up to the referee's discretion, but they are already allowed to assess a delay of game penalty if they think it takes to long. NHL Rule 38.4
