My (then) 9-yo daughter & I built this 1'x'6' Alameda Belt-in-a-Box shelf switching layout over 4 years ago.

The Caboose Industries ground throws worked well for the kids to have hands-on operations, but the oversized "catapults" & dead frogs phucked up photos & phree-phlowing operations.
I've been slowly replacing the Caboose Industries 205S ground throws with SparkFun 9609 slide switches that provide both a low-profile turnout control while powering frogs (the #1 way to make yr layout more reliable & fun to operate!!)
After replacing all 7 turnout controls on the right side of the layout with no problems, I tried to create a How-To while replacing the turnout controls on the left side.
Of course everything went wrong while installing that one slide switch.
Had to go back and re-film/re-build the install a couple times.
No matter what, hope people get a good idea how to replace existing turnout control with slide switches.
If you're working with a foam base, create a styrene plate to slip around the slide switch to hold it in place & then caulk that to the foam baseboard.
Hope this gives you good ideas for better turnout control, & why powering frogs is one of the best moves you can make on your layout
JUST SAY NO TO DEAD FROGS!!
