McKeen Motor Car Company started out of the U.P. (Omaha) Erecting Shops in 1904-1005, The purpose of the Motor Car was to assist railroads from having to use steam engines and passenger cars to move riders for relatively short distances thus saving expenses of operating larger steam engines. The Virginia & Truckee Railway purchased McKeen Motor Car No. 22 in 1910 and ran it successfully until 1945 between Carson City and Reno to the North, and Minden to the South. No. 22 was scraped (all except the body) after the last run in 1945 in which what remained was turned into a Restaurant
and later into a Plumbing Shop. In 1995 the body was donated to the V&TRR. It took 14 years to restore No.22 to its present operating condition thanks to many Friends of the Nevada State Railroad Museum. This video is of one of the early rides of No. 22 put on for a Toy Train Convention held in Reno, NV. Enjoy.

That is one good looking motor car. They did a fine job to restore it. Thanks for sharing. I can't believe the cars didn't stop on the road. I would have slammed my foot on the brake.

And its not running on the Virginia and Truckee Railway either. It's running on the museum track at Carson City, Nevada.

Since when was the car restored by the Virginia and Truckee Railway? They had nothing to do with it. This restoration was done by the state of Nevada at the NSRM shops at Carson City, Nevada.

The Motor Car is about 72' over the ends, but was called the "70' " model. The only other size (other than the first McKeen car) were all abuot 55' long.

Yup. The museum has a narrow-gauge locomotive, the Glenbrook, formerly of the Carson & Tahoe Lumber & Fluming Company (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Glenbrook). Once it is restored, they will operate it on the museum grounds.
