I think you guys have captured some of the magic of the early days of This Old House, showing in detail the efforts and mistakes along the way and only brief illustration of design. A lot of shows are puffery- you guys are interesting.

I just want to say that after over 40 years of being a carpenter, I had my last day of work Friday. I can now spend all my time criticizing you on YT from the comfort of my bed if I feel like it. I started Oct. 1979 and finished 2022.

This Series is Great for homeowners to see how the proper team can develop a plan, and execute it with all the unknown's a remodel will throw at you. Most of my customers, want me to design and engineer the project as it flows. this puts alot of Strain on me, where a good Design and Engineer team could help. but Alas, that expense is usually cut out of jobs. Thanks Matt for showing the Proper way. I know its a bit more expensive, but it does help avoid things like load transfer and possible failure in the future.

Get the sparks to put a micro switch for the pantry door. Open door light goes on close door and it's off. No Manual switches on the outside. Looking good so far though guys. 👌

I really enjoy and appreciate all the detail which is included. And it's fascinating to compare the structures and materials and methods used in this type of house with, for example, Gosforth Handyman's home extension project.

We used to tell newbies to get the stud-expander out of the truck when a cut was short. One guy was out there 15 mins looking. You have to laugh off mistakes. They'll always happen on any job.

I'm so enjoying this series. I notice you only use the LVLs horizontally for structural strength, not vertically. Is regular lumber strong enough vertically?

Even though it seemed like a disjointed day you still got a lot of things done that need to be completed at some point so forward progress is always a good thing. Over the years I've also had a few days like that where you measured twice and still got it wrong for whatever reason. It happens and all you can do is recut another board and move on with the project. As a former US Army Engineer we used a phrase that will stick with me forever; "If it doesn't fit, get a bigger hammer!" Then when I was on a home build team we used to say; "I cut it twice and it's still too short!" Both phrases would apply to this video... Looking forward to the next build video, it's all very interesting and you both make it all the more enjoyable with your back-and-forth conversations.

Last year he converted his board stretcher into a bolt stretcher, and it would be difficult to convert it back. They haven't made board stretchers since 1982, so if you have an old one hang on to it.

How does the electricity work for the construction? When I get anywhere near a wire, all power goes off. You have lights on, etc. Is there a separate, new line for your lighting and tools for construction? Like in other videos when you pulled wires from the wood, you would hammer the wood and split it. Was the power off in those wires?

I’m 67 and I remember as a kid we were building our house, my dad, my brothers and I, and even the stud grade lumber was nice and straight and white and the ends had like this green wax on the ends, man it was beautiful. Now you really have to search a lumber pile for something good. Just disappointing 🤷🏻‍♂️
