I don't know if I can blame Huaisang. The guy just isn't confrontational. This doesn't devalue his feelings. I'm still sad that while he had the potential to break the ongoing cycle of revenge, he instead became a contributor by using those closest to him.

Huaisang and Mingjue both look so young here, they didn't deserve what happened 😭 This is a really nice animatic!!

Honestly I remember back when I first encountered the series (I only watched the drama/animated back then, just started the novel) and was quick to misjudge Huaisang's character for someone who was lazy and didn't want to put in the effort to be a cultivator. It was only when the truth came out why he refused to pick up a Saber and the fact that he lost his brother did I begin to better understand him. It's not easy to be forced into a singular path when you wish for freedom and choice to live your life the way you want it to. Granted, responsibility and honor is important as well as loyalty to ones land and Clan, but to force someone to wield a weapon that over time will make you go insane and die in a brutal death. Honestly I could understand Huaisang's fear and hesitation, as well as having passion for something that isn't just involved with war and bloodshed (I love art just as much and honestly if that boy wants to paint fans, let him do it!). It's never easy to be different and to fall into conflict with family, and while I understand Mingjue's morals, forcing his younger brother and belittling him for having a different perspective only caused the rift to grow larger. I also couldn't fault Hauisang for his mastermind plan, because no matter what, Mingjue was his brother and he wanted justice for the murder. It's honestly such a messy and tragic situation and I feel sorry for the Nie family.

My poor heaaaart!!!! I'm mush when it's about these two, I love Huaisang so much, poor baby turned into something his brother might have hated, all because he loved his brother so much. And this, oh my god, this is a beautiful punch in the soul.

He did want revenge for his brothers death, but he also knew that if someone didn't stop Jin Guangyao, whatever happened to his brother would happen to a lot more people and well, with those two motives combined, I don't only not blame him, I praise him for his secret coup d'etat!!!

Don't mind me just gonna go cry in a corner cause OH MY LORD MY FEELS! Huaisang feels like the definition of "He did what he had to do" . He's not a very confrontational person but he knew who was behind what happened and needed some way to bring it to light. And while the methods were far from ideal he did what he had to do to bring it all to light, and honestly I think the way he did it might've been the only way he Could do it. He's not confrontational and Guangyao is charismatic and good with deception. He proved multiple times that he could talk his way out of just about every problem he faced. I really don't think Huaisang would've been able to get any justice if he hadn't taken the route he did with bringing Wangxian into it. The two really are a power couple each with their own respective strong suits that fit perfectly for task. The whole series is people having to cope with countless poor situations in the best way they can and a lot of good people died and a lot of bad ones did too, on top of the random npc's who just got dragged into this mess. He did what we had to do, and ultimately it worked for the greater benefit of several people who got answers to unasked questions, resolutions to unsolved problems, and a chance at redemption and a happy life. He did what he felt he had to do and boy did he win in the end. Or at least as much as you can win when your brother's still dead.
