Ingredients:
- 1 and 1/2 cups oil
- 1 cup onion, sliced
- 2 cups tomatoes, chopped
- 2 cups medium-sized potatoes, chopped
- 100 ml beef broth
- 250 ml beef broth
- 2 cups boiled beef
- 3-4 green chilies
- 30 ml lemon juice (or juice from 2-3 lemons)
- 500 grams rice, boiled (with a slight bite remaining)
Method:
1. Heat the Oil:
- Place a karahi on medium heat and add 1 and 1/2 cups of oil.
- Once the oil is hot, add 1 cup of sliced onions.
2. Cook the Onions:
- Fry the onions until they turn light brown.
3. Add Tomatoes:
- Add 2 cups of chopped tomatoes to the onions and sauté well.
- Add a little water, cover with a lid, and cook until the tomatoes are soft and well-blended.
4. Add Potatoes:
- Add 2 cups of chopped medium-sized potatoes to the tomato mixture and sauté for 2 minutes.
- Add a little water, cover with a lid, and cook until the potatoes are tender.
5. Add Beef and Broth:
- Add 100 ml of beef broth and the boiled beef to the pot. Mix well.
- Add an additional 250 ml of beef broth, mix, cover with a lid, and cook for a few minutes.
6. Add Green Chilies and Lemon Juice:
- Add 3-4 green chilies and sauté for a few more minutes.
- Add 30 ml of lemon juice (or the juice from 2-3 lemons) and cook for 5-6 minutes.
7. Boil the Rice:
- In a separate pot, boil the rice until it is nearly done (al dente, with a slight bite remaining).
8. Layer the Biryani:
- In a large pot, layer the bottom with a portion of the boiled rice.
- Add a layer of the cooked beef and potato mixture on top.
- Repeat the layering process with another layer of rice followed by the beef mixture.
- Finish with a final layer of rice on top.
9. Dum Cooking:
- Cover the pot with a lid and place it on low heat to steam (dum) until the biryani is fully cooked.
10. Serve:
- Once done, transfer the biryani to a serving dish or plate and enjoy!
