One of the German families that links Singapore and North Borneo are the descendants of Captain Herman Leopold Schuck (pass away in Singapore in 1887). His sons Edward Schuck, Herman Schuck and William Schuck owned plantations in North Borneo. The book "Captain Herman Leopold Schuck: The saga of a German Sea Captain in 19th-century Sulu-Sulawesi Seas" may help.
