In the clinic this week is one of our favourite patients in the world Kim, who has just had arthroscopic knee surgery (menisectomy) for a degenerative medial meniscal tear.
One of those amazing “bounce out of surgery” cases where the swelling is minimal, the ROM is great, near to no pain and improves every day. Dream result! However not all post-surgical stories are as great as this.
So, we are going to take a video diary of Kim through each stage of her rehab, so you can follow her through the next 6 months and see the exercises she has to do, how we teach and guide her and you will be able track her progress through her rehabilitation journey.
Today is week 2 treatment and mobility. Stay tuned for part 2 - of week 2!

Hi! Thank you so much for your videos! Do you have any exercise recommendations for when you have a weaker glute/hip and weaker abdominal muscles on one side (the right side) of the body? I can't do squats or double leg glute bridges since my hips shift a lot during each movement. These usually activate my left glute/hip but not as much on my right side. I've tried donkey kicks but I feel like my left glute always gets stronger in the process of trying to focus on my right glute and my right abdominal muscles can't hold my body up as well during each movement. When walking on the treadmill (especially on an incline), I usually feel like my right hip flexor gets pretty tight and my left glute activates much more than my right one. I'm thinking my left abdominal muscles might be stronger due to them overcompensating for my weaker right glute/hip? Are there any specific exercises that you might be able to recommend?:) Thank you so much for your time!!

Hi, I recently had a lateral partial meniscectomy. Why do you say "not allowed the pinching feeling in the front" (of the knee)? I experience this when trying to reach closer to full extension, as well as a pinching feeling at the back of the knee when trying the hamstring heel slide

Hi. I had a medial bucket handle tear. Because of certain circumstances it took about 5 months till I had the medial meniscectomy which was the beginning of March 2022. It's been slow progress towards full range of motion. It's at about 125° now. I have about four more inches till it reaches the same ROM as my good knee. I used up my last PT last week. I have another visit with my surgeon in a couple of weeks at which point he will determine if I have to have something that he calls manipulation. He claimed a lot of my limited ROM is psychological because I'm tensing up. But I'm tensing up because I'm anticipating even more pain than I'm slightly feeling. (I'm also thinking I could damage something bending my knee into the painful range). This was 6 weeks ago, however. My range of motion is better now than 6 weeks ago, but I still feel some pain when I'm trying to push through the other 4 inches for full range of motion. Brief feedback on this would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much.

Some knees can take a while. It may take lot of rehab and slow progress of exercises Instead of general strengthening. If you’re struggling I suggest you follow my knee surgery rehab program at physiorehab.com

@@physiorehab I just had a meniscus repair surgery. Doctor said I didn’t need a brace just crutches. I’m concerned with the way I sleep, would sleeping on the stomach cause any damage to the repair? And how long does it take to heal before I can walk without crutches. Thankyou!
