I'm so stressed because I am doing too much work earning £150,000 a year. OK So turn work away and earn less. The reason I am a self employed spark is I get to choose the work I do and the hours I put in. For a moment I thought it was all about Artisan Jordan's pay from his company.

Problem with our trade is that all the younger generation coming in are either not getting a proper apprenticeship or are only trying to get into it because they want big money but don't want to put the work in. I'm finding more and more that do not have the required basic skills from school to carry on in the trade, the schools need to stop saying that if you're not good at Maths and English a trade is the way to go, rant over.
@efixx

Rant pretty much agreed with to be fair Glyn. I think lots of young people are happy to work but just haven't developed the skills really. 🤔

Danny’s work making it appealing is top notch but also leads to loads of people starting with the wrong attitude and means they quit when they get paid to train (poor them) or they get paid £35k staff wage once they have experience. Should clearly be stated it’s company pay (and still fair play to Danny) but not accurate. Ain’t Pimlico sparks for most of us

@@efixx I agree that the skills need to be developed but the basic skills are not there from school. The problem is a kid at 16 who hates Maths and English because they haven't been shown practical application of it in school comes into FE hating it and reject the thought that it's useful. There is only so much you can do in a limited time frame as a lecturer to convince the person it's a needed life skill. Honestly it's a battle most of the time and it's a shame as the ones who fight the hardest against it need it the most.

You don't have to pay a racketeering sceem (NIC EIC) to do any electrical work. Just as long as your a COMPETENT sparks (with a few years under your belt), then that's all that matters.
@adamseddon1555
@adamseddon1555 Жыл бұрын
correct me if I'm wrong but to do "notifiable work" in dwellings (cu change, install a new circuit, work in zones of bathroom) you must inform BC. by far the cheapest way to do this is by being part of a CPS such as niceic? you can pay BC directly every time to inform them of notifiable work of course but my local BC said its £270 and they have to send one of their "electrical contractors" round to check it (i assume "their electrical contractors" is just someone whos part of NIEIC, napit ETC. who will sign it off and inform BC through them...)
@uplightuk8924
@uplightuk8924 11 ай бұрын
@@adamseddon1555 Correct. If you are running a company then it is vital you are CPS registered. You won’t be landing any big contracts if you’re not registered with a CPS. Now if you are just a one man band electrician then it really isn’t necessary.

I doubt it would work like that. You can't charge more for the exact same job, that's just ripping people off. People want something extra for the increased price. What you do is just turn jobs down. That's how you reduce the stress. And if your partner gets stroppy over the reduced income, then get rid of her.😂

@@efixx Yes. I'm in Los Angeles, someone would have to PM me for me to tell them what the best path is. I think many jurisdictions are looking for youngish guys with at least a construction background, a certified course(easier than you'd think), and registration with IBEW. Another plus would be a certification to drive heavy vehicles In California that would be a class B or A drivers license. Actual experience as an electrician isn't necessarily required. For example; if you were doing concrete or roofing for more than a year, you've at least shown you're OK with heavy physical labor.
