Honestly I got hired right after my internship and man I didn’t know it was gonna be this stressful. School was a breeze but reality hit me hard in the face. I had my first nervous breakdown yesterday.

Hi Melanie. I've been working at an office for about a month now and I've been cross training for front office and the back. They gave me a review today and said that if I can't become faster and more efficient then I can't work there anymore. This really upset me and made me feel inadequate as an assistant. This is my first every job in the field and I just finished school. I feel unappreciated and pressured. One of the doctors calls me when I'm at home, calls and texts on my days off, and begs me to come in when I have had an emergency such as car trouble. She says I'm too slow, but I've been trying the best that I can. I don't want to give up but I'm feeling very defeated. Should I find a new office to work for? Thanks
@MelanieLunaDiaz
@MelanieLunaDiaz 4 жыл бұрын
100 percent find another office if you can! One of the dentists I work with would always tell me that I had to do stuff differently if I wanted to make it in the field. And I would always be discouraged too. But honestly, your situation sounds TOXIC. Your days off are your days off, find yourself an office that will respect that. Also you are JUST learning, it’s okay to be slow. I used to be slow too, but you’ll get faster as you get more experience. They need to understand that and remember how it was when they were first starting :/. I pray everything goes well with you 😓💕

Yes you can make a living with it :) it may jist take a while! So far I’m seeing DA’s get paid 13-23 an hour. It’s enough to live single. But I wouldn’t say it’s enough to raise a family. Hope that helps!

Stick it out if you can. You’re so close! I just started dental assisting in Texas with no experience and am making 10 an hour.. which isn’t horrible I guess. I would use DA to support yourself financially in college, but if you have a lot of loans I would finish because you most likely won’t be able to pay them off just by doing dental assisting. If it’s your passion go for it, but you definitely want to see what the starting pay for DAs are in your state! Good luck!!

I just started as a Pediatric DA just outside of Washington DC and I’m making $16 an hour with very limited experience. A few friends of mine make more but they have experience. Another friend of mine is a lead DA and makes $30 an hour. DA’s in DC start out at over $20 an hour. It depends on your state, area, if it’s a specialty (oral surgery makes more, pediatrics makes less, the rest are in between), and experience level. If you like a fast pace environment it’s a good career. It’s very overwhelming at times too, for newbs like myself.

In my office, we tell them the most important things are, DON’T SPIT, SUCK THROUGH A STRAW, SMOKE (because they can all cause dry socket) we also tell them to dampen some gauze and put it on the empty sockets and bite down to control the bleeding. We tell them if they swell up to put something cold like an ice pck or frozen peas on the area. And we tell them to stick with soft cold foods for now. Smoothies are great, they just have to remember to spoon it, not suck it.

Second question how long it takes to take classes 3rd question after being a dental assistant can u become a dental doctor or no ? My goal is to be a dental assistant and then become a dental doctor
@bayborn510
@bayborn510 3 жыл бұрын
In order to do either, you need at least a GED. My program was 9 months but that was 10 years ago. Good luck. You can do it.

I love watching your videos. I would love to know more about dental assistance. I’m thinking of dental assistant school but I heard there’s a lot of scam school so I’m scare to apply for any dental assistant school.
