I feel like Tyler enjoys making black women, who have the right to be mad, shame them for being mad Seriously, our main girl has faults but the film never seems to make the main guy look bad compare to her

Like the whole narrative is basically “Why would she do something like this after being mistreated for years and having untreated mental health issues??” Yeah she made her poor choices but it’s not like they didn’t see this coming because they tried to stop her.

It's pretty blatant to a logical thinking person that this man is a piece of shit and that she has a very disturbing anger problem. The movie sets up BOTH that he's a user and she's an entitled rage demon. Running into the man's RV and turning ot on it's side should have been a turning point for her. She had to have a hysterectomy. (WHICH SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN COUNTED FOR THE "ROBERT SUCKS" TALLY) Her reproductive health and that 25k she spent getting him a car should have been the last things he took from her

Although I agree this shouldn't be a trope that gets assigned to all Black women, there are real-life versions of this character and they don't get a pass...not from me. Some versions of these women are mothers and they inflict this abuse on their children in addition to their spouse. It's literally that same energy y'all gave R. Kelly. Because of the historical implications of Black men being wrongly accused of rape, everyone stood by while this grown ass man married a 15 yo Aaliyah and declared himself "the Pied Piper of R&B". The story of the Pied Paper ends with him playing music and leading all of the children away.

Because of the conversation Diana had with Robert while he was in the tub makes me think she set this all up💯because there was no guarantee that the 75 million licensing deal was gonna happen if he was still married to Malinda and coincidentally how the woman Robert cheated on his current wife 20 years ago is now head of the company he wants to notice his invention somehow loses her wallet in his truck making his wife think he’s cheating again and want a divorce to know the new chick is taking care of him and scores a 75 million licensing deal opposed to the 800k that was offered during his marriage?????! @@GenX7119 two things can be true at once💯Tyler isn’t the best writer but also in the context of the movie she had a motive to be invested in Robert. Yes, Malinda divorced him but why tho? Cause she thought he was cheating with the same girl he cheated on her the first time and even the details of that situation has bad writing and plot points but still ain’t no woman is gonna lose her wallet and not notice and when it’s returned to her she accuse Robert of stealing it and basically said f his feelings on the situation as if her actions didn’t cause their divorce to happen

I saw this in the movie theater when it first came out. It made me so mad, it was an atrocity. And if anything she could have sued for the name. She gave him the name for his product. And Robert is dirty for saying, “I still love you” but gave everything to his mistress of a decade. Robert was really a loser.

Melinda literally had Stockholm Syndrome she kept going back to the man who hurt her the most. Robert took everything from her if you think about it, he took her money, he’s literally the reason why she can’t even have children if you think about it, he kind of stole her innocence in a way, and he completely stole was little faith she had in him. It was clear Melinda was having trouble believing in him and trusting him and it only took Robert having lunch with that woman for her to snap because 1. It was the same girl from all those years ago, and 2. He didn’t even tell her he was going to lunch with that woman in hopes to get his battery produced. I believe Melinda was done dirty from the very beginning and she only went as far as she did for revenge because this is not the first time he’s been with that woman, but I think what really pissed me off is the fact that Robert really couldn’t see what he did wrong and just thought the money would fix things. ROBERT YOU RUINED HER LIFE BY DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING YOU BUM! All he did was take and take and take until he basically sucked the life out of her to the point where she only knew how to be miserable and at that point she couldn’t get better because the man that hurt her was always going to be on her mind because that’s the only man she had ever loved, and she lost him because she couldn’t trust him anymore which is his own damn fault that’s why you don’t cheat. Melinda could’ve been a better person if Robert just got a job and helped her out, but nope he decided the battery came before his own wife like I can’t stand him. Then again Melinda isn’t good either like why would you go as far as to try to kill them on a boat like she was actually insane at that point. Her sisters only tried helping her and she was like fuck yall I’ll do what I want, but the price she paid was death….Tyler Perry wtf.

When she found out he lied she should have divorced him then or stayed with him, she chose to stay; she became bitter towards him and hateful, her sister helped, she had intuition that he wasn't any good; did she want him because she can control him? He was at her mercy? Even if they stayed together she will always have 4 major things over his head; I gave you my virginity, I gave you the money to finish school, I can't get pregnant because of you cheating and you were nothing when I met you; if he would have left her at age 50, it wouldn't have been enough, he gave her 10 million, bought the house back and still wasn't enough? I'm just gonna say this. I was raised by this kind of woman. I actually saw this movie for my 36th birthday and sat two seats away from the character on this screen. She cheered her on the same way she cheered on Betty Broderick. I truly think that it's generational...women like this have this mindset that if they stick with a man in an unhappy marriage, they're entitled to access to all future assets while consistently being the main ingredient hindering that man's success. In my mom's case, my dad worked no less than three jibs for most of my life but we bounced in and out of permanent housing because she always sabotaged his ability to work by disabling his vehicles, tossing all his clothes in the tub and filling it with water, etc. Then she gets to say, "Why are we getting evicted if you're working all these jobs?" When I watched this movie, i was particularly stricken by the fact that Melinda eas no longer able to have children because I've been that child in the middle, and it sucks. You (or I) end(ed) up being the punching bag for when the husband decides to sleep somewhere else for a few nights. That's not to say that I side with Robert across the board. I felt like she should have stopped being with him when she caught him cheating and especially when the levels were so high she crashed a cat and got hurt. Or if she gave him that second chance, get out after a couple of years of him not fulfilling any of the promises he made. Truth is point blank period that she was waiting him out to get her hands on "what she was owed" for staying woth him that long. She monetised her mental health until she thought it was no longer profitable. Instead of just cutting her losses for the money she had already spent, she wanted to stick around and try to get paid...somthing she isn't owed nor ahould she have waited so long to realise wouldn't happen.

Thank you for sharing your story. I agree with your assessment of the movie. I wrote a comment about Tyler Perry banking on us (the viewers) to be emotional and not logical. Most of us are expected to be angry/cheer for Melinda because she is a woman, but she did CHOOSE to stay. She chose to take him back and she chose to divorce him even after he vocalized not wanting to. I think you are right about this possibly being generational because there are plenty women who do not carry themselves this way.

If anything, she made a lot of poor choices, including letting her unhappy sisters get into her head. She was confident saying she wanted the divorce and after he excelled, she wanted to feel entitled. He had paid for the house back and even gave her millions. She could have created a new life with the money but instead wanted to stalk a man she gave up on. I think Mr. Perry expected most women to just view this emotionally and not logically.

@@CocoaCosmosOfficialGranted, I haven't seen this movie in 6 yrs but it absolutely wasn't about rubbing it in her face. That is your take because you're making excuses for a toxic person who chose to ignore the fact that she was now free of him and had gotten back every cent she spent on him with interest. Obviously it can't give her back the last 20 years of her life but it definitely gives her the means to start over. BAD CHOICE
@esm82ify
@esm82ify Ай бұрын
@@Bionic_WebbThen you've lost the plot. Thag dream didn't belong to her. It was HIS dream and he included her because she was the woman in his life but that detail was flexible. Any woman could have been his companion in that dream because she never made any input into what their future looked like in that context. I find it funny though that irony of the second wife being the girl he cheated is lost on most people. Beneath the obvious conflict it creates for Melinda, there is how Diana has had the life she ahoukd have given herself. Because she wasn't involved with Robert, she was able to finish school and build a career while he is still basically the same person he was back then. The only thing she offers him is the opportunity to get back on his feet because she had literally nothing to do with him finally getting the meeting at Prescott.

I read your other comment too so I have a question. If she wanted his money so terribly, why did she eventually leave? Why did she care if he was maybe cheating on her again? Why go through the process of mortgaging a house? Why did she say she can finally rest after Prescott banned him from the premises? She didn’t take him back at the time of the accident because she wanted his money, she loved that man to stupidity. I’m not gonna say she wasn’t slow for taking him back period but she literally was only staying with him out of love because he genuinely brought nothing else to the table. She wasn’t playing the long game. If genuinely felt she was entitled, she would’ve left long ago. Then came back to sue for the rest.
@esm82ify
@esm82ify Ай бұрын
If you've read some of my other comments, you know im a child of specifically this kind of marriage, and her staying had nothing to do with love. She (and you in the video) both acknowledge that their relationship wasn't based on love, and she started to resent him... maybe even hate him by the end. She had literally invested every cent into this man and she was waiting for a retuen on her investment. It wasn't about the money in a financial sense but she did come trying to seduce him after he gave her money and paid off her mama's house. The sex she was hoping they'd have was her ticket back into his life to be the wife of the a great inventor and all the prestige that comes with it. So no...she didnt care about the money he gave her but it was absolutely about the money she gave him. She knew exactly how much she invested in him and she got TEN TIMES that amount back but she wants the ability to say what she did for him and how he owes her his entire life. She's not wrong on those facts but she is being unreasonable and so are you.

But the thing is you said your mother sabotaged your father. Melinda never sabotaged Robert in anyway. She literally funded that battery to be made and he paid her back by marrying the woman he cheated on her with and giving her the life that he promised her. Everything to someone who didn’t stand by him through perpetual downs and only got with him when he was up. The movie isn’t about money even though it’s a focal point. It’s about betrayal. I just find it funny that you think Robert didn’t do anything and you still think it’s about the money in the end. She literally worked two jobs to keep her sisters from knowing what was going on. The only way that they found out about her losing the house was from their cousin who works at the bank. She stopped involving them once they didn’t come to the wedding. Clearly she couldn’t hold a damn thing over his head considering he cheated on her literally two days after her buying him a brand new car lmao. If she could’ve held it over his head, he would’ve felt some sort of guilt or remorse for the 20 years of their marriage. Nope. As soon as her family sets him up with a job, he gets resentful because she didn’t defend him. He even had the audacity to marry the woman he cheated with. So no clearly Melinda held nothing over him. Just like Melinda made her decisions, Robert made his and they led them both to their demise.

23:35 There it is again! You keep commenting "it's not about the money" after showing that she sued him for what she's "owed" then just now you said "After deacdes of resentment and her basically getting nothing for it" She put $1.1 million into him and he gave her $10 million that he would have never been required to because she was pettioner for the divorce and he didn't get his deal until after their divorce was finalised. That may have even been part of the reason he was second guessing her when she asked for a divorce. He wasn't trying to keep her...he was trying to keep her vested for equal divison of assets. I think he knows he was a terrible husband and a shitty human being in general so he wanted to ensure she didn't walk away empty-handed 23:35 Why do we keep pretending like this damn lady isn't the reason he can't have children? SHE drove the car into the RV being a damn rage demon. He didn't have any part in her choice to do that. Repossessing the car she bought him without his knowledge or just knocking on the damn door would have been better solutions 34:05 "Little to nothing to show for it" as you show a zoomed in image of the check for $10 million he is under no legal obligation to offer (as state by the judge when she sued him for more). He also bought back the house she lost due to his tomfoolery. What...does it only count if they're still married? If she had still been his wife she could've probaby made a case for a 50/50 split or more becasue she came up with the name. If she had been more level headed during their divorce, she coukd have negotiated a percentage of future success...but nope. This is the downfall of always leaning into irrational anger. I mean...we all have our own ways of coping with being disrespected the way Robert did during their marriage, but the way she copes doesn’t really leave room for a win.

I don’t think she was justified at all. Most men work long, gruelling hours at jobs they don’t even like to provide for their family and keep their partner happy. Still, their partners will divorce them (a majority of the time) and take half their earnings, the kids etc. but you rarely see men complaining “oh she took years from my life.” This particular film put a lot of women in men’s shoes and they hated it.

And I stand by the fact that men/women/nonbinary people should leave if they feel as trapped as Melinda did with an unhelpful partner like Robert and they have the right to feel screwed over for having their time and money stolen from them. I would be saying the same thing no matter the gender. Plus no one put men in the position of provider except men so that’s an entirely different discussion lmao

@@CocoaCosmosOfficialHave you actually taken out the time to consider how silly your defence of Melinda sounds if the roles are reversed. Would Michael Ealy get your sympathy if he drive his Jeep into an RV his girlfriend was in with another dude? Would you still care if he worked two jobs to put her through school while she worked on her dream? Would you expect him to stand up to his nagging ass sisters or brothers when they came into their home being rude? What if he filed for divorce and she finally hit the jackpot? She gets all the things she promised herself and he comes around wanting to get back together...but she's with that dude from college. Can Michael Ealy try to kill them and get the same sympathy?

This is absolute bs. I have consistently seen men whine about how much money and time they lost with a woman who divorced them and a lot of the times for good reason. Partners don't divorce each other if they are happy. And it's hilarious how you think how this movie put "women in men's shoes" as if women haven't already been destroying their entire lives, youth and their mental health for the sake of their families. The amount of sacrifices and compromises they make in the name of family should be a crime but here we are. "Taking half the earnings" is a pretty interesting thing to complain about since this applies to men as well. Whoever is the main breadwinner gets to pay the dependent spouse half their earnings because it is considered an opportunity cost plus the money that they earned because of the dependent spouse's contribution managing and taking care of the house that gave them the time and opportunity to make that money. Taking the kids? How many men actually right for their kids custody? 😂 Tell them to step up and then watch the courts change their tune. All you proved by your comment is just how sexist and misogynistic you are and will do anything to justify a cheating parasite of a man who robbed a woman of her life, money, health which led to her death. Absolutely pathetic.
