That is encouraging news! I’ve seen doctors on KZfaq recently say the DEXA scans are not really a good test for measuring bone density and they explain why and also speak about other testing one can do.

My brother & I have an aggressive form of arthritis that includes Osteo. He noticed many years ago after he ride his motorcycle he got some pain relief and just sort of felt better. Shortly after.he told me I found a notice about independent trials being run with a vibration macine improving people with arthritis. At that time about 25 yrs ago the machine used was nearly $4,000. - way out of our reach. I had always noticed that after I rode on the back with my dad or brother I felt better but thought I was imagining it maybe. Same result riding our large scooter. A reg sized larger type motorcycle is one huge vibration platform. The more we rode the better we felt. This is the first I’ve heard about this in 25 yrs. Thank you.

I think this also makes sense from the quantum mechanical view. Waves are always vibrating and every apparent thing is made of quantum waves. Apparent or perceived spin is also an effect of wave vibrations. So we all need to get our vibes right. Its much like music and often even is music. Merry Christmas its the 25rh of march and that's a good vibe to import.

This is interesting. I hope I can get a response. I work in the ICU as a nurse… we have a lot of patients who are bed bound. Either they have been for a long time and most likely will never walk again or they are recovering from an illness or procedure and can’t walk for a while. I’m aware the longer they are bed bound, for whatever reason, the quicker there is muscle and bone atrophy. After listening to this interview regarding vibration therapy for osteoporosis, I’m curious about something the respiratory therapists do called CPT. This setting on our ICU beds allows the bed to vibrate for 5 - 10 minutes to help with secretion/mucous mobilization. Is it possible this vibration of the bed could help repair bone density? If so, this is something very easy we could do for all of our patients.

I went from walking at my jobs to sitting on my butt driving job. Then started falling apart - TO MUCH SITTING! I knew I was right in buying a Home Vibration Plate. This confirms I am doing the right thing. Had a Dr. tell me I shouldn't use it, so I put it away. Now that my back/hip/leg pain is better I am back on the VP plate - 5 minutes at a time 3 or 4 times throughout the day. (Dexa Scan/Severe Osteoporosis. Sure compared to 35 yr. old body) Using my VP is the fasted easy way to a quick exercise, that is really helping. I also found a fast exercise Gym called the Exercise Coach with great machines - 20 min. workout. Here's to everyone's health. May we all be as healthy as we can be for as long as we can be without letting Western Dr.s slowly dissolving us with big Farma Meds. Who in the world wants to be sick and unhealthy as we age out? I am energized and excited. I am concerned that when i take this to my group (we already have the video) many people will respond by saying they won't need to exercise because all they have to do is stand on the plate. This SUPPLEMENTS exercise, correct? It does not REPLACE it. Correct? I spend a LOT of time convincing the members of my group to exercise daily "in a serious way" for reasons beyond the bone health issue. I want them to reduce fracture risk by increasing body strength (muscle) and balance - reduce falls etc., have better recovery. Also - very important! - most of the members are gravely depressed and frightened by their medical practitioners who tell them that they are "going to break a hip and die" and tell them that "exercise won't help" and insist only pharmaceutical intervention (which is problematic for many). From my experience, going from a sedentary lifestyle to an active one involving multiple workouts every day (yoga, then a walk, then later online dance, etc. etc.) takes one from feeling like a weak and damaged creature that is so frail that they could "break your leg just walking around" (as an ill-informed doctor once told me) to someone who feels strong, capable, and sturdy on one's feet. SO. The last thing I want to do is encourage people to "just stand on this thing and you don't have to exercise." Our members are generally older post-menopausal women with a multiplicity of medical factors affecting their bone health and a panoply of fracture histories. How can I give them this encouraging and extremely helpful information without having them think that they don't have to exercise after all? How can I make it clear that - if this is in fact the case - that low-intensity vibration therapy does NOT supplant daily exercise? By the way if you are curious, and want to "lurk" on the group (you are welcome to contribute as long as there's no promotion or advice-giving - we have other PTs as members, as well as other professionals) and it's an endless source of information, case histories, support, etc. here is the address. It's called Prolia Side Effects and Complaints and is an international discussion group that discusses FAR more than just issues with denosumab. Vibration therapy is one of them! facebook.com/groups/988541067970186.

Hi Diane. Thanks for your detailed comments. LiV does not (and cannot) replace exercise. It is a supplement to a well designed program, for those that are best suited to vibration therapy. For example, it has some effect on improving your balance but it cannot compete with balance exercises. It does not make you stronger and thereby give you the strength to catch yourself in case of a fall. It does not improve your posture. It does boost your cell activity (especially older folks) for building of bone. Next week's video (yes, there is one more) gets into this in more detail.

@@cybernurse2020 Maybe my experience might be helpful since the other person hasn't replied yet. I have NMO, similar to MS, and was paralyzed and had to learn how to walk again. Even after rehab I wasn't steady and used a walker. When I heard that the vibrating plate helped MS I got one. It has helped with my balance immensely. Also helps with my shoulder pain which is due to NMO. It also helps with sore knees and hips if I overdo my walking/hiking. I've used it for six months now although I stopped for about a month when I was moving. I noticed a huge decline when I stopped. I was more wobbly and the shoulder pain was constant rather than barely noticeable. I use it daily about 12-15 mins after other exercises like walking or biking although now I might do what was suggested, three 10 minute sessions one to three hours apart. Sometimes I do stretches on it. I started doing light weights on it too. Four months ago I started using it wearing my weighted vest which I'd never worn before. I've upped the weight in the vest every month although last month it was just one pound, lol. I have 12 weights and wanted to be able to increase the weights for two years instead of for one year. It's a new month now so I'll remove the one pound and add a three pound weight and try to alternate like that for the next year or so. So ultimately it helps with balance and aches and pains for me. Again, I hope this is helpful for you. It was the most helpful thing for my disease.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that the medical statements he is making about the range of frequencies that are effective are not accurate. But if in the course of this entire presentation it’s not acknowledged that he works for that company, that’s a bit concerning. I admit I have not watched the whole presentation yet to see whether the disclosure was made.

Is collagen helpful for osteoporosis? Collagen plays an important part in bone mass. Collagen supplementation may help improve bone mass density and slow osteoporosis. Collagen is a protein found throughout the body. It supports many essential processes, including bone formation. Collagen peptides are a type of animal collagen broken down into a more digestible form. People can take them as a supplement. Osteoporosis occurs due to bone structure changes and a loss of bone mineral density and bone mass. These changes cause bones to weaken, increasing the risk of fractures. This article looks at the potential benefits of collagen for osteoporosis. It also discusses osteoporosis treatments and tips for maintaining bone health. Collagen may benefit people with osteoporosis. 2018 study looked at the effects of specific collagen peptides on bone health in 131 postmenopausal people with reduced bone mineral density. The researchers measured the effects of taking 5 grams (g) of collagen peptides daily for 12 months, compared with a placebo. They looked at changes in bone mineral density in the femoral neck, which is the area where the thighbone joins the hip bone and the spine. The results showed that the collagen peptides increased bone mineral density and improved bone markers, indicating a reduction in bone loss and an increase in bone formation. The researchers followed up the study with another, smaller-scale study in 2021. It looked at the long-term effects of the same collagen peptides in 31 postmenopausal people. The participants were from the original study’s treatment and placebo groups. Researchers found that a daily intake of 5 g of collagen peptides over 4 years significantly increased bone mineral density. Participants also experienced no fractures during the 4-year period.

Collagen is a protein the body produces. It is an essential part of many bodily processes. As people age, the body’s ability to produce collagen decreases by around 1% to 1.5% per year. Collagen peptides appear to support bone health, as collagen is essential to bone mass. Collagen peptides may help with bone mineralization, which is the process that strengthens and hardens bones. Collagen peptides may also positively affect cartilage, tendons, and ligaments, as the peptides may stimulate the production of elastin and certain collagen types. Collagen plays an important part in bone development. It helps support processes that allow bone and osteoblasts to form. Osteoblasts are cells required for bone growth. How to take collagen peptides People can take collagen peptides as a supplement, often in powder form. People can add the powder to a liquid and drink it. Collagen supplements are also available as capsules and tablets. There are many types of collagens, but type 1 is the most common in bone, tendons, and ligaments, and type 2 occurs in cartilage. Collagen peptides come from animals, including cows, pigs, and fish. There is insufficient evidence to know which type of collagen peptide is most beneficial for osteoporosis. The effects may vary by type and across conditions. Manufacturing processes may also alter their effect. According to a 2019 review, a safe and effective level of collagen supplementation ranges between 2.5 g to 15 g of collagen per day. Research suggests collagen peptides are a generally safe and well-tolerated supplement. Osteoporosis treatments ---------------------- may involve lifestyle changes, including: -- Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables -- Eating sufficient calories for a person’s age, height, and weight -- Getting enough calcium, vitamin D, and protein -- Getting regular exercise, including strength and resistance training, but avoiding high impact exercise -- Avoiding smoking and secondhand smoke -- Drinking alcohol in moderation, if applicable -- Attending any regular medical checkups

Very interesting video, thank you both. I attend a 2 x weekly gym for people with osteoporosis and we stand on a vibration plate for 1 minute each session. From the video, this isn't long enough to be effective?? Like 5 minutes would be better. I can certainly feel the vibration in my teeth that Dr Rubin described when I'm on the vibration plate at gym. Is there a way to simulate the effect, perhaps foot drops or bouncing in my swimming pool? Between my gym sessions. These both give a similar vibration feeling. I've been on a few buses that have plenty of vibration LOL.

I cannot comment on the vibration platform you use in your gym, but not all vibration platforms are equal; in fact many are harmful because of excess g-forces. See here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ndyke650ydfIe4E.html Low intensity vibration is more appropriate. You likely need more than one minute a session but you should consider multiple short sessions during the span of a day. We are releasing a third more detailed video next week on this topic. Good luck and thanks for your question.
