In this video I install a Memphis Shades batwing fairing on my 2007 Yamaha V Star 1300 Tourer. I didn't like the look and feel of the original windshield that came with the bike. I really like this batwing. It keeps the wind off my chest, head, and hands. They are a little pricey but well worth it. I hope that you enjoy the video. Thanks for watching! Stay safe!

A few things I didn't like about the Memphis Shades fairings (other than the price) is those brackets don't have much adjustment on them so you pretty much have to use it where it is mounted no matter if it works for wind protection or not. The angle make alot of difference in how the air comes over and around it. I instead purchased the cheaper version of Amazon ($135) that comes with a windshield and brackets that can be mounted in any configuration so it had endless adjustment positions. It's pretty well built and is as good as a Memphis Shades at a fraction of the price.

I agree that there isn't a lot of adjustment on the fairing. I did adjust mine once to see if I could get the wind to clear the top of my helmet. I ended up with the "bobble head" experience. I put it back to the position that I had it before. I've been riding with the front fork wind deflectors and the fairing. It's a better ride in my opinion. I had initially thought about going with one from Amazon. Glad to hear that you got a good set up. Thanks for watching and stay safe.

Thank you for the video. I also drive an Xvs 1300 a midnight Star 2007 and bought the batwing fairing - in Germany. The video helped me a lot. Is there also an inner shell for the Batwing to install a radio? Next to it I drive a Kawasaki GPz 1100 Ut 1985. Sorry my English is not good, but better than my Chinese 😎

Thanks for watching. I don't think that there is an inner shell available for the batwing. There is a leather pouch for storage. I have heard of other riders buying Bluetooth radios that attach to the handlebars. I might look into that later or upgrade to a batwing that will fit a radio. They are a little more expensive thought. The 85 GPz 1100 sounds pretty nice and fast. Have a good one and stay safe.

I have this exact same setup but I can't get on board with it I get buffeting to the extreme. I originally had a 12inch screen with the same issue any ideas on how to solve this. Also lovely looking bike great video

Thanks for watching. I installed a set of fork deflectors. That eliminated the buffering. I ordered the MEM5804 from Memphis Shades.

So looking back, would you of gotten the 9" shield rather then the 6.5" ? My v star came with a Memphis shades fairing however the windshield is only about 4-5" so im having trouble pulling the trigger on $120.00 for 2-3" of added visor. Idk which one to get.

I'm 6'1 and the 9 inch is almost too short.

Is there a way to lessen the gap between the fairing and the headlight? It just seems a bit Ill fitting.

Yes. The mounting brackets are adjustable. The instructions don't say anything about it though. I adjusted mine.

You don’t happen to know if the stock windscreen can still be made to work? Perhaps with some plates from Memphis?

Maybe. Not sure what mods would need to be done for it to work.

Any thoughts re the windscreen height? Does the 6.6 inch work well - or if anyone has the taller ones, any thoughts re performance, buffeting, etc appreciated.

The 6.5 worked well for me. I found out that the buffeting is fixed by installing fork deflectors.

I rode to work this morning. The temperature was 43F. My fingertips were cold but not freezing. Definitely better conditions than using the stock windshield.

Hi. Thanks for your great videos. I'm a subscriber. how do i know if a motorcycle has 5,000 miles or 105,000 miles on it since the odometers only have 5 number slots (ex: 99,999 miles maximum readout) ? I'm looking at a 2007 Yamaha VStar with supposedly "01,700 Miles" on it. How do I know that the miles aren't actually 101,700 in reality ? Meaning how do I know the owner didnt reach the 99,999 mile mark then drive it another 1,700 miles, rolling the odometer over once totalling 101,700 miles and trying to pretend like it's 01,700 miles ? Thank you. Anybody knowledgeable please reply soon.

Thanks for watching. I purchased my 2007 with 29,000 miles on it. I would be really surprised if the bike you are looking at has 101,700 miles on it. Do you know if the seller is the original owner? If the bike has been registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles, you could check what the mileage was when it was registered. You could also to a VIN lookup. Give the bike a look over. Look for signs of excessive wear. The rubber on the shifter on mine is worn. If that bike only has 1,700 miles on it, everything should look new. Unless it sat outside.

@@wonkster1970 sweet. Thanks for your info. Yea you're right. If it had 100,000 miles more than advertised, it most likely would should a lot more wear. Even the paint maybe with lots of scuffs and bug and rock abrasions. Thanks a lot.

Yes. I would recommend this. There are a couple things that I've noticed with the fairing. It does flex a little at higher speeds. I think that I should of went with the 9" windshield also. The 6.5" seem a little short for me. I can feel the wind on the top of my helmet while riding. It isn't bad though. Thanks for watching.
