The OM 622 and OM 626 engines are four-cylinder - diesel engines for Daimler AG and come from a strategic collaboration with Renault-Nissan. The OM 626 was first used in autumn 2014 in two C-Class models (205 series). The basic engine is identical to Renault's R9M engine, and is produced by Renault at its factory in Cléon (France). The engine was then completed at the Mercedes factory in Bremen. Mercedes-specific parts include a start-stop function, auxiliary units (compressor and air conditioning generator), a special double-mass flywheel, a modified engine control unit with additional functions and exhaust after-treatment. The OM 626 and Renault R9M are among the world's first diesel engines to have steel pistons instead of aluminum pistons. Steel pistons with reduced stress piston rings from the supplier Mahle are used. [1] Steel pistons are said to offer advantages in terms of consumption and power compared to aluminum pistons due to lower friction and better thermal behavior.

No it's because most Manufacturers are using (thin)low viscosity oil and making the intervals longer 16-20000km for oil changes due to that chains stretches

Great video. Will come handy when these engines will reach high mileage with a poor service, because poor oil causes chain wear guys !! Especially dpf regens pollute the oil real bad...

everybody fails to see the purpose of this video... any mercedes mechanic knows that they used to build cars in a way that made it easy and quick for mechanics... they are returning to this type of engineering. The point of the video is that they can change a timing chain in 13 minutes... its impressive to see how a car can actually be engineered with future repairs in mind. nowadays, cars are engineered to be put together, but not worked on

all diesel in merc w 123-124 2.0d four cylinderom604 2.5/td five cylinder om605 and 3.0/td six cylinder om606 was made only by mercedes not reanult/nissan .Reanult/nissan 2.5td is not same engine

This is the shame of Mercedes Benz. Chains suppose to last 1 million miles, if maintained properly. Mercedes get worse and cheap quality every year, and very expensive for bad reliability.

Here's why he's changing the timing chain on a new. When all those plastic fasteners and rail hooks see 5 years they'll be as brittle as can be. Do that on a 10y old car. Half the stuff you touch cracks in half. Ironic, the germans interiors are holding up nicely, but the plastic under the hood is made to break.

Not long ago,timing chain used to be more reliable than timing belt.Now is the other way around.I saw on Ford engines better quality chain than Mercedes or Bmw.

@@skillz1855 It's about 1000 $ here in Croatia but our monthly pay is 800 $ average and don't worry this kind of engines are for EU market only. Ffs it's a 1.6 liter diesel engine, in USA you have V8 monsters.

Chain doesn't make noise if it's ok,it lasts much longer in general except few makes make thin chains so they brake or need replacement..chain is a better choice
