This works flawlessly even without the headrest tool. I cut a coat hangar into the shape of the tool shown and had it done in seconds. Thanks!

I used the same method for my 2006 CLK500 but I couldn't find the tool I just used an allen wrench, there is a whole you just need to push the wrench until you hear a click sign take it out push the cushion back, ta ta! you are done! Thanks a lot!

Addition tips: 06 W211The little cap is chrome looking and its hinged and its about 1/4” below the top of the headrest, the cap is small about 1/4” x 1/4” and directly below the notch. The notched area has to be pushed back slightly to reveal the cap. So that cap will be pryed open and the tool inserted until a click is heard. The tool will be inserted until only about 1-1/2” is still exposed. It does not require any pressure or forcing of the tool to heard the click.

I have a 2008 E550 and this solution worked for me. My headrest doesn't have the little notch to show where the poker tool is supposed to fit in, but if you pull back the trim slightly then you can see the hole where the tool fits. This saved me having a fight with M-B service. They thought the headrests "might need to be replaced". I am $ure that they DO want to replace them. NO WAY!

This just happened in my 2009 CLS 63 AMG earlier this afternoon (3 Jan 2022) and I used that long tool you showed here in your video and I did what you did ! and it released the lock that was keeping the headrest deployed and it went back flat again, It took a couple of hard pushes before it finally latched into place again - Now all good ! 👍

Short Answer: YES this works, but I was dumb in the beginning of attempting to fix. Background: I bought my 2006 E class used, so do NOT have the handy MB toolkit. Once I found a hex wrench thin enough to use, this worked great! I'm pretty mechanical, but I admit to watching the video in haste. That was my bonehead mistake -- cost me 2 hours of frustration off and on. Lesson learned. Should have read through comments first to see about options, like a coat hanger, etc. Those will be thin enough for good results. SOLUTION: **Use a 4mm (or slightly smaller) hex wrench.** Also, when you move the rear of the headrest out of the way, you will see something that resembles a small plastic funnel. Put the wrench straight through the hole, push down and you will hear the "click" as on the video. Saved a trip to MB dealer. THANK YOU!

This worked like a charm for my 2013 Mercedes Benz C 300 Additionally, I called a Mercedes-Benz dealership just this morning… And I was told “...yes sir, we can fix it, it’s going to be $195. If we can’t fix it, then we will need to replace them.” And something tells me they would’ve conveniently not been able to fix them… thus charging me for replacement head rests!

But what about replacing the cartridge that exploded inside causing it to pop out like in bmw 2008 5 series has this feature but after a rear end has happened you need to replace a cartridge in the headrest so it will work again unless this is motor driven? appose to small explosion in the headrest
