For those of you who also had you're pin pop out I had to place the pin in forward, then rotate the pin sideways and back into the slots for the pins to sit in. I used a pair of pliers to hold the pin and then fingers to move the pin around and pull backwards with the pliers into the slot.

THANK YOU, THANK, YOU THANK YOU!!!! Finally someone who truly understands all aspects of this problem and how to fix it! And special thanks for showing us how to re-trigger the little latch with the battery. (Mine had become locked again, too, during my initial troubleshooting when I didn't understand the problem.). Also, my metal rod had become lodged down inside the headrest and I was able to finally find it with a magnet, just like you said. Thank you for making and sharing this video! You are THE MAN!

THANK YOU^2 - yours is the ONLY video that discusses both a dislodged metal pin and closed servo-actuated latch. My situation included both - other KZfaq vids assume/start off with a pin-in-place and an open latch, which given my sitch, were not helpful. Saved me some bucks amigo, gracias! TIP FOR OPENING LATCH - although the car runs on a 12 volt system, a regular 9 volt battery worked to pop my latch open. Just need two pieces insulated wire (maybe even paaper clips?) with both ends stripped- unplug the servo harness at the seat back as shown in video, insert one end of the two wires into the servo harness (headrest-side, top part of wiring, NOT supply/car power-side, bottom part of wiring) and touch the respective +/grnd leads to the 9v battery.

Thanks so much for the great tips, I would not have found the steel pin for sure unless you said where to look and I used a small magnet taped to a screwdriver to retrieve it, and of course I dropped it another 3 times while attempting to reset it. Also , double checked the lock clip was ok before I played with it, but I did find out the black strap was interfering with me trying to latch it, so I moved it out of the way and finally reset. . Mine deployed when I hit a very hard pothole which surprisingly did not ruin the wheel or tire. thank you !

Same thing happened to me! I didn't lose the pin out of my headrests, but I hit a pothole hard enough that it popped a tire and bent a wheel. Thankfully the wheel was able to be repaired. Oddly enough, I didn't even notice the headrests deployed until weeks later after I got the new tire mounted on the repaired wheel and put it back on the car. I must've had so much adrenaline from hitting the pothole that I didn't even notice the how far forward I was sitting!

I did plastic welding, epoxy glue and rigged up stiff wires to anchor the pin. Still had a problem getting it to latch into place. Put some WD40 on the pin and it latched. I think all the revisions reduced the tolerance and it needed some lubrication to slide into place. @@CaseyPhilson

@dgroebl
@dgroebl 6 жыл бұрын
One pin is for the positive, and the other is for the negative, it shouldn't matter which is which. It is difficult because the pins are small, but DO NOT touch the positive and negative wires together! Only connect one pin to +12V, and the other pin to -12V power. As soon as you do that, the circuit is complete and the headrest will release.
